They hate it.

And don't try reasoning with them. They'll make up bullsh!t and believe the most absurd myths to justify their irrational hatred.

I'm a firm believer that the American public as a whole is stupid. That's why WWF is highest rated in it's time slot, and somebody like Bush gets elected - twice.

That's why those companies do so well. They can give it to you cheaply and quickly. Never mind that their products suck. Americans don't know any better.

Myself, I'll pay a little more for a shovel from the local guy down the street that I've known for 20 years than from Walmart who is trying to put him out of business - by selling shovels made in China.

For me biggest isn't always better. If it's #1 it isn't always better. It it's the most successful it most certainly isn't always better.

Ah yes. The ever popular elitist who believes the majority of people are too stupid to make good choices. It is this very thinking that leads to socialism, communism, and eventually, totalitarianism. The unwashed masses are too stupid to take care of themselves and be free, therefore we (the self appointed select elitists) must do all that for them!!!

CF, hopefully one day you will realize that just because someone does not like what you like, or likes something that you do not, does not mean they are "stupid."

If everyone followed your model, the middle class would not be able to afford nearly the life style they do today. In fact, there would be no middle class at all.

Finally, they may not be "better" in your eyes, but they are the most successful because they excel in their field by offering exactly what the majority of their customers want.

How else do you explain those examples I cited?

Here's some more.

Americans buy american cars because they're cheaper. Nevermind that they break more, and even though they cost less to fix, in the end run they'll cost more to own over the life of the car. I own a Nissan with 80K, and it's never been in the shop.

Americans like AOL becuase it's cheap and easy to use. However, their software can be best described as "malware", and they'll end up going out to buy a new Dell when their computers end up unuseable. Plus, I don't enjoy being inundated with CD's in my mail.

Microsoft. I use Windows because unfortunately their isn't enough software out there for Linux (even though it's a much better product). This doesn't make them #1 in my book - this means they have a monopoly. I do however use Opera's web browser because I don't like spyware.

McDonalds? They're in a big lawsuit right now because they never told the kids they target that their food has trans fats in it.

The latest #1 band or biggest star. J-Lo or 50 Cent or whoever the hell else is selling the most records right now are not in my mind talented. Call me an elitest, I'll accept that.

The US itself. I'm questioning our leadership and have every right, and as a matter of fact it's my duty as an American. I believe Bush is an incompetent liar and if he's not careful is going to get a lot more Americans killed then he already does on a daily basis.

If everyone followed your model, the middle class would not be able to afford nearly the life style they do today. In fact, there would be no middle class at all.

Well then, we've finally established there can be a difference between "better" and "successful".

how is this any different than any other corporation in the world? have you ever stopped to think that maybe it is the system that is flawed? to understand wal-mart you must understand CORPORATIONS, here is a brilliant start, see this movie:

But have you ever considered that many people may actually choose what they do for their own reasons and like their choices?

It's great that you have and make different choices. It'd be boring if everyone conformed to what you perceive as "right" and likewise the other way. Either way, they're not stupid, dumb, or wrong and neither are you. What's inheritantly wrong is attempting to force your opinion (s) as being "right".

Yeah leave that to the Political Parties and the Religious Whackos, they are experts at it.

Myth. American car reliablity is currently not that far off from imports. And again, it is a matter of personal preference. People bought ultra cheap imports in the 50s and 60s even though they were unreliable because they were cheaper.

Many people own American cars with 100s of thousands of miles and they have never had a breakdown either.

Finally, many people buy American cars out of the same misplaced loyalty you think you are displaying by dealing only with small businesses and buying only American made goods.

Americans like AOL becuase it's cheap and easy to use. However, their software can be best described as "malware", and they'll end up going out to buy a new Dell when their computers end up unuseable. Plus, I don't enjoy being inundated with CD's in my mail.

Another myth. I have had AOL on my computers since the mid 90s. Not one of my systems, or the systems I work with or fix for friends and family has been made "unusable" by AOL's software.

Microsoft. I use Windows because unfortunately their isn't enough software out there for Linux (even though it's a much better product). This doesn't make them #1 in my book - this means they have a monopoly. I do however use Opera's web browser because I don't like spyware.

MS is not a monopoly. It is simply the CHOICE of the majority. Other OSes exist, but have been rejected by users. Consumer choice is not a monopoly.

McDonalds? They're in a big lawsuit right now because they never told the kids they target that their food has trans fats in it.

BULLSH1T. McDonalds publishes their nutritional info for all to see. The lawsuit is because McDonalds did not reduce it as they had stated they would.

The latest #1 band or biggest star. J-Lo or 50 Cent or whoever the hell else is selling the most records right now are not in my mind talented. Call me an elitest, I'll accept that.

Art is subjective. If you believe others are somehow less for liking something you do not, than yes, you are a narrow minded elitist.

The US itself. I'm questioning our leadership and have every right, and as a matter of fact it's my duty as an American. I believe Bush is an incompetent liar and if he's not careful is going to get a lot more Americans killed then he already does on a daily basis.

The "Bush lied" mantra has been proven wrong by not only our own government's bi-partisan committee, but by the British and Russian governments as well.

If everyone followed your model, the middle class would not be able to afford nearly the life style they do today. In fact, there would be no middle class at all.

If everyone followed your model, there would be no middle class. It's companies like Walmart that are putting the middle class out of business.

More Bullsh!t. The businesses displaced by Walmart's competition were outmoded and antiquated. People who ran such businesses moved on to other jobs and businesses. THAT is how a market works. Economies that refuse to change die.

Finally, they may not be "better" in your eyes, but they are the most successful because they excel in their field by offering exactly what the majority of their customers want.

Well then, we've finally established there can be a difference between "better" and "successful".

"Better" is subjective. One thing is for sure, the majority find them better, or they wouldn't be successful. You do not agree with the majority for whatever reason. But instead of saying, "to each their own," you choose to believe that anyone making a subjective choice different from your own is "stupid" and somehow less than you are."

The sad thing is, your post here completely validates my original post's comments about believing myths and spreading bullsh!t to validate your irrational hatred.

An even sadder thing is that you will spend your life bitter and most likely, unsuccessful because you'll blame others for the world not being as you think it should be.

That is absolutely not true. And I can speak with authority on this one. I'm in the field. They're getting worse.

Finally, many people buy American cars out of the same misplaced loyalty you think you are displaying by dealing only with small businesses and buying only American made goods.

Nobody is buying American cars these days. They're buying American trucks. And the ones that still buy cars are wearing Jeff Gordon t-shirts.

This isn't the place to be an AOL fanboy.

BULLSH1T. McDonalds publishes their nutritional info for all to see. The lawsuit is because McDonalds did not reduce it as they had stated they would.

Yep the American way. Let's get our kids fat then, and cop out because we published a nutrition label. We didn't do anything wrong, it must be the parents fault.

What ever happened to responsibility.

Art is subjective. If you believe others are somehow less for liking something you do not, than yes, you are a narrow minded elitist.

That isn't art. It's entertainment. The two don't necessarily go hand in hand.

The "Bush lied" mantra has been proven wrong by not only our own government's bi-partisan committee, but by the British and Russian governments as well.

What, you're talking about Iraq? I'm talking about everything else that comes out of that moron's mouth.

More Bullsh!t. The businesses displaced by Walmart's competition were outmoded and antiquated. People who ran such businesses moved on to other jobs and businesses. THAT is how a market works. Economies that refuse to change die.

I don't believe that. And I consider it my moral responsibility to boycott them.

Believe what you want, but you'd have to be crazy not to see the corruption and greed there is in corporate America.

Most people who know me consider me a pretty easy going guy actually. And I do OK, thank you very much.

All that can be said at this point then is that if you are truely this dismayed with everything in this country as much as you state, there are real and exciting oppertunities in many other areas like Canada, much of Europe (not Germany as their economy is much worse than ours right now) Japan, China, Australia and many others. Don't construe this as a "If you don't like it then leave" message, but, if you are truely unhappy and the cause is everything in this country......why stay full well knowing that things most likely will not change anytime in the near future? I know if I were as unhappy as you I would seriously consider relocation.......:)

For me biggest isn't always better. If it's #1 it isn't always better. It it's the most successful it most certainly isn't always better.

hmm.

started my first business at ~15 went to RIT. Invested a good deal from my business into other's (I own parts of 3 car dealerships) and retired at 30. So i can say i am far from stupid.

I enjoy Watching WWE. I know that it is fake. But i still enjoy watching it. The simpsons is fake and i enjoy that also.

I also shop at wal-mart. Now i wont buy electrical items like HD TV's or recivers etc. But i can pick up the normal shopping stuff i need (dont buy meat there myself. we got a great butcher down the street) cheaper then any place else.

I also buy Ford cars/trucks/minivans (have a 2 cars and a truck. planning on a mini-van this summer). I have not been dispointed by them at all.

Just because someone else enjoys other things that you do not does not make the stupid.

I just do not see spending money on something just because it is more expensive. Being able to stay home with my daughter and not have to put in 40+ weeks anymore is worth shopping at the cheapest place i can.

Hah, hah, hah...

Really it all just comes down to corporate America for me.

There's plenty else that I love about my country.
Like Rednecks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer!

I've been called plenty of things, but a redneck isn't one of them.
Wasn't calling you a Redneck, I was just quoting a verse from Merle Haggard that he usus in a song where he proclaims his love for this country while deriding those who question some aspects of the same country.

I never said it did.

I just believe that a large group of people can be stupid (call it the angry mob mentality, or whatever - I see it on this board all the time), but a single person can be smart. Screw them if they don't agree with the majority though...

What about if the people in the large group are the smart ones and single person is bitter and stupid. ;)

They are all about making as much money as possible and maximizing profits at whatever cost even if putting everyone around them out of business. This is "dog eat dog mentality" and it is not nice. I hate them with a passion.
:disgust:

Walmart is just doing what a great many number of other companies are doing. They're no better or worse than anyone else in this department.

However, Walmart should *not* go out of business. Sam Walton is a friggin genius.
