And hardly any of those people are the kids who will likely buy this shirt. The kids don't know any better.

I think that you need to stop whining about it, to be honest. If you personally lived through it I can understand your anger. But most likely, you only learned about it and now you're taking it up to be your cause. People are hypersensitive now and it annoys me. Grow a thicker skin.

People are allowed to make the shirt if they want. People are allowed to buy the shirt if they want. Having a big outrage about it will probably make the kids in the target market want the shirt even more. Ignore it and it will fade into irrelevance.

It was probably an oversight as others have said but I think it's pretty tasteless for Walmart to continue to stock it all things considered...

Sounds like you're the one who's whining.

You know there is more meaning behind it than what the Nazis made it to be.

Unfortunately due to your heritage you only see it one way.

The ONLY reason congress got involved was to appease some constituents...you really think they give a rats ass what is on a t-shirt in Wal-Mart?

Hell half the products in Wal-Mart come from China and there are many more deaths to be attributed to that country's past, and they still to this day use a large amount of slave labor to produce the items they export, yet I don't hear you pitching a bitch about it.

I understand WHY you feel the way you do, you have a personal connection to it and you are perhaps looking for symbolism that is not even there, but even though I understand why, I still don't agree and think that you and others who feel the way you do are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

You mean the same way that the "nazi" swastica demonizes an ancient religious sun-symbol ? Oh how the "nazi" salute has demonized the Roman "Hail Caesar"?

The fact is that these "nazi" symbols existed long before Hitler was even born and that even though the symbols were in most cases benign or even positive they are now forever taboo because a few idiots used them as well.

Re-claiming the symbols as benign designs is not trivializing the suffering and death of those innocents.

Hey...I think next week in my English class, our text on Intolerance in America is going to be discussing several cases of discrimination against Jews in America...That shirt would be ideal! (Like many here, I doubt most people would recognize it for what it is...;))

Nobody here got their panties in a wad until you showed up, as usual, with one of your patented trolling "whiny kids/liberals/minorities" rants. I simply stated that it's crazy that after 6 months of complaints, letters from congress, and promises to remove the shirts from stores they are still stocking the shirts and provided a link to a site that covers retail gaffes like that. Other than that, before your post, there were a couple of noncommital posts and a couple of jokes. Good job getting an argument going, you must be very satisfied with your flamebaiting.

Not surprising someone would want to repurpose some.

Symbols like the swastika were a peaceful symbol stolen from India's Hindu culture. In fact the word swastika is a German variation on the Indian spelling.

It's not a "peaceful symbol". It's a symbol of luck.

What's so logical about wanting to revive some ancient symbols of luck (which doesn't exist) that have already been coopted by nazis?? That's just asinine.

The claims that Walmart or the manufacturer KNOWINGLY used a Nazi symbol are absurd.

It's simply a case of ignorance. Some ignorant design guy/team found the symbol and thought it might appeal to the teen demographic they were targeting. They put it in front of a panel of kids along with other designs and the design scored high. So they started producing it. Walmart approved the shirt for sale with no idea that is was a Nazi Army symbol.

I showed the symbol to a bunch of people last night at a local bar (age range 25-35) and only two out of dozens thought it was related to the Nazis. Most thought it had something to do with pirates. It's obvious most people have no idea and therefore it's very easy to believe a chain of ignorance led to it's manufacture and sale. With the ability to pull images off the web totally out of context today, it's even more believable.

Though Walmart's inability to get the shirt pulled quickly is kinda funny/sad, I don't blame them for selling the shirt in the first place. MOST people will not immediately know that design is related to Nazis.

Here's the plan:

Buy the shirt.

THEN realize it's a Nazi symbol.

Hire the most shady cut throat attorney (are the adjectives even necessary?) you can find

Sue Walmart for emotional distress (extra bonus points and larger settlement if you're a Jew!)

Le Profit!!!!

Do you know what Che did for Castro in Cuba? Read up, pal, it's a fair comparison.

Two sides of the same coin. A valid comparison if I ever saw one.

Not in sheer volume, but I agree.

I also find it hilarious that all of these stupid kids who plaster his face on everything love to "fight the man" and "screw the establishment" ... but yet don't realize they're endorsing someone who rigged a few hundred criminal trials to give the verdict "he wanted" to have people he didn't like executed.

Dude, you're completely missing the point. It's a chance to tear down a big evil corporation. Grab the torches and pitchforks!!! :D

The funny thing here is there are a bunch of kids running around wearing this shirt because it has a "cool skeleton head" on it, all the while having no idea the origins of the design. I bet all the whiners think the Skull & Crossbones are cool and that being on a shirt would be fine but considering it's origin and true meaning I guess they need to shift their view.

I guess you need to realize that the skull and crossbones wasn't created by the Nazis. ARRGGG!!! There's a small hint.

Also the Swastika is not a Nazi symbol either. It is a Buddist symbol, the Nazi's just turned it around and perverted it.

What gets me is that someone would see this is the store and immediately scream NAZI.
And to get Congress in on making them stop selling something is just plain dumb. If Walmart wants to sell a t-shirt with a skull and cross bones on it let them. If people don't buy it then it won't sell. I'm half temped to go out and find one of these shirts to buy just to spite the cry babies.

Oh and if you look at the t-shirt design and the Nazi one on the pin they are different.

Yep.. today, it seems everyone is offended by any little thing.

Really? Would you like to open a street stand in Harlem selling "Stars'n'bars" shirts? Let us know how it works out. If you make it out alive, that is.

I love Harlem. What are you saying is wrong with it?

Just a coincidence?

Considering 1 out of 5 Americans can't even locate the United States on a world map, it's not surprising that a lot of shoppers aren't going to understand the symbolism of images sold on clothing. In some ways, those t-shirts fit well with the type of society we're turning into.
