uses keywords as "blue dvd", "50gb", and "American manufacturers ordering 2 million units".

What does it all mean? It means we're in for a bumpy ride. This format war is not being decided this Christmas. Hopefully this crap will be over before both formats are obsolete (they're already on a sales decline from Netflix & increased HD movie channels on cable & satellite).
The 50 GB was added by the author, and is not from the person they interviewed. Furthermore, the English "correction" on Fuh Yuan's on website specifically calls it HD-DVD (in English).

Anyways, that interview was about the exact same deal, and doesn't add any real information. We should also note it was dated April 20.

That is the typical Taiwanese media dribble. Lots of words, no content.

Wal-Mart Shoots Down Cheap HD DVD Rumor

A spokesperson for the company said Thursday that reported leak concerning Taiwan-based consumer electronics manufacturer, Fuh Yuan, partnering with TDK in China to manufacture the $250-299 players, had no merit. The report first appeared in AVS Forums, and was picked up by other Web sites.

"The article? was full of inaccuracies and we had no participation in it," the spokesman said in an e-mail to PC Magazine. "Most of the facts, including the purchase, were untrue," she added. "Not sure how it originated."

When asked to comment specifically on a statement appearing on Fuh Yuan's site http://www.fuhyuan.com/ev/action/, which implies the retailer is at least interested in ordering the players, the spokesperson said she could not comment on or disclose Wal-Mart's internal business with suppliers and our orders. However, the supplier said that no deal was imminent.

Which is the same as I think of the original article that sparked this thread.

Let's just keep this all in perspective:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2006
The top 5 movies of last year are all from blu-ray exclusive studios. Universal does not appear on the list until #18.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2007&p=.htm
4 of the top 10 if released will be blu-ray exclusives. Universal does not appear until #13. By the end of the summer, Pirates 3, Spiderman 3, & The Simpsons as blu-ray exclusives will be added to that list.

So what does one think is going to happen this Christmas season when the masses are supposedly going to make the switch to hi def movies? Does anyone seriously believe this Wal-Mart player that may or may not appear, may or may not be in full quantity, may or may not be the only cheap hi def player Wal-Mart carries, is going to single-handedly win this war? Two things can happen this holiday season - either blu-ray wins straight out, or we're thrown into a long pointless format war for years to come.

The original article had quite a few specifics actually.

Not quite the same. The first one was the manufacturer jumping the gun in hopes of boosting their ipo...
