Which is better used toward an SSD

How many SSD's do you guys want me to have? I dont understand why everyone throws ALL of their money into an SSD money pit, they really arent that good for their price, im just getting one because ive never owned one.

Money pit? It's the single best upgrade anyone with a PC could do. PERIOD. Everything is faster, the whole experience of using windows is better and smoother, boot times, program loading times, everything is improved by a huge margin over a traditional HDD.

If you can't understand that then you need to do more homework.

Ive done plenty of homework and used SSD's plenty of times (my step father has two in RAID0) and I just dont see the difference between that and my velociraptors. Why would I care if my computer boots in 5 seconds instead of 7?

You think it's only boot times? Everything is many times better than any HDD.

Seriously I have a raptor as well and I tried starting up from it after using an SSD and it was horrible. Absolutely horrible. Waiting for HDD thrashing to finish on startup, things actually having a counter when loading, I hated the whole experience. I cannot go back.

You're right... Go with the i7... Then your system will boot in 7 seconds vs 7 seconds with the i5. ;)

If you can get a 5ghz+ OC on your i5, I'd probably just keep that. That's pretty awesome!

If you are getting the 2600K for $50 though, that is a pretty good deal. I'd jump on that even if Piledriver turns out to be the best thing since Conroe.

So Im hopefully going to be buying new parts soon but am unsure if I should get SB or wait for piledriver. I dont have a problem waiting for piledriver to be released if it will be released in september or around there, but does anyone have any ideas how it will perform to SB?
Smoblikat: HIGHLY unlikely you'll see a Piledriver till the end of the year. From what we know, it won't go into production until late Q3 so end of the year is the earliest. Second, it will be faster than Bulldozer but at best as fast as a 2600k and perhaps a little slower. This is my hunch from what I've read. Next the high end Piledriver, tentatively listed as a 8350 will mostlikely be clock at 4 Ghz and Turbo at 4.2 or at most 4.4 Ghz. A little research shows that at best this will match a 2600k and the Ivy Bridge 3770k will be faster. Next the price will most likely be @$300-320 so do you wait for this? Not me. You already have a chip (2500k) that is faster than a Bulldozer ( see this link http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/434?vs=288)

Now how about a Bulldozer vs a 3770k?
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/434?vs=551

I don't see a PileDriver making up the difference.

First I would overclock your 2500k to at least 4.Ghz with the stock cooler or 4.4Ghz with a good aftermarket cooler and see if that meets your needs. I would not wait for a Piledriver.

Youre clearly not as smart as me, so I wont hold that against you, but CPU's dont really increase boot times after you reach a certain point.

And what did you learn?

Well, you certainly don't really want help. We told you what we'd do which is what you asked. Then you came in saying "I know what I'm doing I want a 2600k" so why did you ask the question in the first place?

Who's jumping down who's throat? I know what I learned, but personal attacks aren't permitted here. Maybe you should learn that before comparing us to the president you probably voted for.

I dont recall asking ANYONE if moving from a 2500K to a 2600K was a smart move, yet thats ALL there was in this thread, or that I should get an SSD instead of buying a 2600K. that wasnt my freakin question, I wanted to know if it would be smart to wait for piledriver. You clearly have NO IDEA what you are talking about. And I most certainly did not vote for that socialist, nor did I vote McCain.

New to forums are you? Did you really think no one was going to say anything about such an upgrade? Really? I think you knew exactly what you were doing.

I assure I didnt count the incivility and inability to answer questions of the people on this forum. If I ask a question im not playing some crazy reverse psychology mind game, generally I want an answer to that question.

I don't know what I'm talking about. We told you NOT to get it and instead get an SSD since you don't have one. It doesn't matter what you thought your question was. The answer was always going to be the same from us.

Obviously if more than just myself is saying the same thing it must mean something.

And keep the politics in the political forum please.

You got an answer. Just one you didn't like. It's obvious to me you wanted to make a reassurance topic and expected 30 people to respond in the manner you were thinking. It didn't happen and now you're upset about it.

We answered you. If you want i7 go to Ivy. If you want a good upgrade path go with an SSD. It really isn't that hard to believe that people are recommending SSDs over new CPUs when clearly the CPU isn't holding you back.

But I didnt care about 2500K vs 2600K, if I did I would have asked that. But I suppose it doesnt matter now since someone FINALLY gave me an answer.

What a whiny little bitch

Thank you?

How so? I'll let you figure that out on your own. It's not a secret Seeing that the replies aren't surprising to anyone but yourself.

Maybe im in the wrong, ill be the first to admit that I could be wrong. So basically im wrong because I asked a question and wanted a response, but instead got people telling me an answer to a question I did not ask then branching off even further and getting me annoyed that noone was responding to my question. I guess next time someone has a question ill give them a completely unrelated answer, since that would make me "right"

Really? Let me help you with that. Just so you see that in a roundabout way you did ask about 2500k vs 2600k. You said "upgrade to SB" you have a 2500k and you mentioned buying a 2600k.

I thought you already have a SB?

I do, I will be upgrading to a 2600K along with other things (z77, SSD etc)

going from 2500k to 2600k and z68 to z77 seems like a waste of time and money. Almost zero performance increase.

Putting a SSD in your current rig is a different story.

WHAT, that prooves nothing nor was it a question. My question was should I go for a 2600K (the SB) or wait for piledriver, as it stood I was going for SB since noone had convinced me otherwise. It was a statment, not even remotley a question.
