I would get ivy if it offered more than higher cost and temps. there is no performance increase and it is almost 50$ more than a 2600K. So you think piledriver will match SB/IB?

There is basically no performance increase going from a 2500k to a 2600k. So, unless you're getting all these parts for free, save your money. IB will net you a small gain. PD is looking like it is still going to fall behind SB and IB in overall performance based on some early Trinity reviews.

I want an I7 so thats what I iwll get, unless you have any relevant info on piledriver vs SB.

Then get a I7 3770K like the others said, Going from a 2500k to a 2600k is pointless or better yet
take your money buy a highend cooler and overclock the 2500k to 4.6ghz

I was thinking the same thing and Piledriver isn't available for purchase yet while SB is available right now
Really, I'm just expecting it to put AMD back in the position they were with their Phenom II... a budget alternative. Right now, they're irrelevant in almost every price segment.

They are irrelevant to people with a clue, but they are still valuable to places like best buy and costco who like to trick people into buying "gaming machines". I had a guy actually come back from shopping for a computer and he told me that aMd was better for gaming, but he wanted an intel because it was for work. He thought aMd was better for games because all the "gaming" rigs at best buy had aMds in them since they are free to build.
I knew this was the fault of the best buy salesman who tried to con him.
I am an expert on this. I am that guy on the forum who is like, really into the tech stuff and has a level head. Ask me if you want to know because I am that one guy.

My cooler is high end, I used to run 5.4 on this chip before I had 4 DIMMS installed. I just dont need the extra mhz.

It offers slightly improved performance per clock and dumps less heat into your room. Judging by your sig, Sandy's extra over locking headroom is probably irrelevant to you, so why not go Ivy?

Ivy bridge costs much more. As far as heat goes, the difference between SB and IB is negligible (18w) so I dont think im going to notice the extra 18w of heat in my room, since I have my fan on me at all times.

The reason im going I7 is because of video editing and encoding.

The ONE thing that improved massively frim IVB to SNB was media and graphics performance.

Read this review: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5771/the-intel-ivy-bridge-core-i7-3770k-review/21

If $50 means so much do you that you're willing to lose 25-50% performance on media performance (which is your primary use-case) than you can't really justify buying an i7 can you?

If you're going to be using software for encoding then buy a PD because it has 8 cores as opposed to Sandy's 4c/8t. Either way you would be wasting your money by upgrade from the 2500k to the 2600k compared to alternative options.

This is the same guy with a 2500K running at 5.4 GHz, I believe.

EDIT: I was right.

If you had a 2500K at 5.4 GHz on conventional cooling, you should seriously start entering the lottery.

I tried scratch tickets once, out of 18 tickets I won 3$.

Ill just sticl to silicon lottery:

I seem to be doing quite well at that. My chip is stable as low as 1.32, I keep it at 1.36 to be absolutely sure. This is ONLY 5ghz though, ill squeeze that extra 400mhz out later. I need to do some stuff first.

And this is how it all ends...

You call people stupid when we're advising you to save your money. Yeah you can spend what you want how you want, but saving money is never stupid.
