So Im hopefully going to be buying new parts soon but am unsure if I should get SB or wait for piledriver. I dont have a problem waiting for piledriver to be released if it will be released in september or around there, but does anyone have any ideas how it will perform to SB?

From the troll who brought you "Why does ATI's Flagship always compete with Nvidias 2nd Tier Card?" another veiled bashing amd thread.

I do, I will be upgrading to a 2600K along with other things (z77, SSD etc)

going from 2500k to 2600k and z68 to z77 seems like a waste of time and money. Almost zero performance increase.

Putting a SSD in your current rig is a different story.

There really is no reason to upgrade your 2500K to a 2600K and new motherboard. You'll likely see about a 5% (maybe) increase in speed by doing that. Don't waste your money.

Spend the money on a nice 256GB SSD drive instead. Wait till Intel's Haswell processor coming out next year. Your 2500K will last you fine till then. :)

I want an I7 so thats what I iwll get, unless you have any relevant info on piledriver vs SB.

Then get an IVB. Not worth bothering with Sandy especially if you are going from a 2500k to a 2600k. LOL

There's no way of knowing if piledriver will best Sandy, and my intuition says it'll likely match it at best.

If you have an itch to upgrade right now, get an Ivy i7, it'll serve you well if you aren't aiming for an extreme OC. Be aware that it won't be a big upgrade though and an SSD would provide a more noticeable improvement.

I would get ivy if it offered more than higher cost and temps. there is no performance increase and it is almost 50$ more than a 2600K. So you think piledriver will match SB/IB?

Single threaded the odds of PD matching or beating SB are slim. Multi-threaded performance has a decent shot though.

If you are going with a z77 motherboard go with an I7 3770K, the 2600 is almost a lateral move from the 2500k and z77 makes almost no sense if your staying on SB.

Either way you are just burning money.

Lets say that Piledriver is an awesome improvement and it matches a 2500k. Lets even say its as power efficient and further that its as "good" in other ways. What will it bring that a 2500k doesn't in a desktop? You have dual SLI cards so its not the onboard GPU you care about although its likely to bring a better one of those. In all honesty its only only appeal will be that level of performance at a lower price.

If you are willing to upgrade from a 2500k to anything today then you are not fan of having money, why would you care about AMD's likely cheaper CPU? With money being no object I don't see what piledriver/any AMD chip is going to bring you in the near future.

I knew you were going to play the 'IVB is hotter' card. What ever, just go buy your sidegrade or wait for your downgrade.

I do a lot of video editing now and will be encodign movies for my file server, plus I tend to run a lot of programs at once so I think the 2600K is whats best for me, as far as an SSD goes a 64gb willb e plenty for me. Im currently using 45gb total for my C drive.

I hear monster is having a sale on cables, you might wanna pick some up for your new build.

I hear walmart is having a sale on astral glide, go grab some now before they run out.

I don't really think it's possible for AMD to pull off a 40% performance increase from a simple revision.

10-20% at best as far as straight performance goes. Overclocking is an unknown, but perf/watt should be vastly improved over Bulldozer but definitely still behind SNB.

It offers slightly improved performance per clock and dumps less heat into your room. Judging by your sig, Sandy's extra over locking headroom is probably irrelevant to you, so why not go Ivy?
