well, possibly. Could be that games like Halo run on an engine highly optimized for the xbox. Splinter Cell on the other hand is based on the Unreal Engine, which is optimized for pcs and consoles(gamecube, xbox, playstation 2 I think.)

Halo was originally a PC game and while optimized for the Xbox, at it's heart it's still the same engine.
Are you sure the SC engine is UT? I want to say I remember reading that also.
Of course the X-Box has only 64MB RAM (plus a 733Mhz CPU). It goes to show how bloated WinXP is when you NEED 512MB RAM and 2Ghz to accomplish the same thing.Originally posted by: TerryMathews

This isn't a national secret or anything. The NV-2a, or the graphics subsystem of the Xbox, is based heavily on the GF3 Ti. Unlike other nForce mobos.

I was under the impression that the X-Box GPU is a GF3 with an extra vertex shader thrown in for good measure. A GF4 then ought to be able to cream any X-Box game.
It's all down to software being optimised for a particular piece of hardware. Soul Calibre on the dreamcast runs on a PowerVR 2 with 8Mb of vram. I don't think the PC equivalent graphics card can produce anything even close to soul calibre.
Remember what they did for Donkey Kong for SNES? Perfect Dark for N64?
Amen my brother....which why I am EAGERLY awaiting the release of Soul Calibur II for XBox!Originally posted by: Woodchuck2000

I remember perfect dark very well. In particular, I remember it being choppy as hell some of the time. Not to doubt Rare's capabilities, but it seems they may have pushed it a little too far with perfect dark.

Halo was originally developed for Apple computers running GeForce2 GPU's I specifically recall Steve Jobs introducing Halo demo at the Mac World three years ago. I am not sure why the project was scrapped but it should answer your question whether it can run on PC's.

I coulda swore Bungie was originally aiming Halo to be released on the PC, not the Mac. And it was scrapped b/c MS bought out Bungie to make Halo a XBox exclusive title (until the near future anyway)
