#1 reason: $ keeps depreciating against the Euro.
#2 reason: VW reliability blows, specifically the ones built in North America.
#3 reason: New line up coming, people don't wanna buy the current ones.

Yup. Touareg is one of my favorite SUVs. The interior is a super-luxury interior (and the exterior is pretty nice as well) but I'm guessing people are just scared of the reliability.

I haven't seen the interior of the Touareg yet, but the exterior looks pretty nice from what I've seen of them. It's a shame that companies such as Daewoo, Kia, etc. are surviving and companies such as VW are hanging on by a string.

Its funny you should say that when Daewoo is out of business, and the reason why Kia is surviving is because of thier incentives. VW sucks balls, Poor reliability, VERY poor reliability, is driving people nuts and not to mention the prices people have to pay for these crappy vehicles. If they want their market share back they have to give better incentives to the buyers and produce an acceptable vehicle.

Poor quality, sh!tty dealerships.

You're in for warranty work all the time, and while you're there you get treated like sh!t.

At least that's what I've heard of VW.

Yeah. I have an Audi A4 1.8T and I am just sick of my engine light coming on every other day. I spent around $2000 on my car for repairs and it's under 85,000 miles. I'm saying this because everything that goes wrong with my car are common parts with the VW Passat. They need to boost up their reliability by increasing their warranty reliability (i've seen people get denied warranty service because they have a boost gauge :roll;) + free maintenance, etc. My next German vehicle will be either BMW or Mercedes (or Vauxhaul if I'm in Europe ;))

Instead of developing the Phaeton, VW should have developed a new Passat. They went for the caviar without any bread and butter to put it on :)

I actually like the Phaeton interior as well :) But I agree... nobody wants to pay $100K+ for a VW...

Gimme a Benz :)

Their cars are in for service so often that they dont have enough loaner cars to give out.

The Tuareg is doing well, though I've never seen one on the road, people in Idaho are just too poor, the only VW they can afford are the new Beattles :)

A colleague of mine who bought a new jetta was plagued by some intermittent malfunction in the electrical system where the engine would suddenly stop and the car wouldnt start for a brief period. It happened to him on the freeway and he was pretty pissed with the dealership. They actually replaced pretty much half the engine in the car but the problem still happened after 6months or a year. After bringing it in 5 times, as I understand it, he hired a lawyer and sent a legal letter to VW and the dealership stating the unreliability of the car and under a lemon law it needed to be replaced. He actually got 24k back from VW which he used to buy a CRV.
Personally, I wouldve stuck with the VW than own a shi||y looking poor excuse of a mini runt SUV.

That may be true for VW. I know that I've had plenty of service issues with my Audi, but the service departments I've dealt with have been STELLAR. They've rented luxury cars for me(and paid for them) when they didn't have an available loaner, they've gotten my car back quickly EVERY time, and they have been nothing at nice. Now, I'm sure the service differs when comparing VW/Audi, but I couldn't be happier with the service. Now if the reliability was there in the first place...

Too bad their reliability does in fact blow.

Wow? A car that is going to stop on the freeway versus a car that may suck as an SUV but will not stop on the freeway? But it may just catch on fire? ehehe Lose either way.

Why wow? ...

I'd say that most people(here) would take a CRV over a Jetta any day.

Same people would probably kiss a buttcheek if it would have Honda or Toyota stamped over it.
Not discriminating but I've driven a CRV and it lacks in the power department. Its a 'SUV' for the grocery store and on HWY 101 but it aint meant for driving on hilly roads. I had to floor it to move up the way to santa cruz. Combine that with ugly looks, the 'SUV' is only for people who are brand conscious.
I think for real that Japanese companies are having an ugly contest where the ugliest design wins.

I believe BMW is a joined member in that contest as well

Changed that for you...

I think VW buyers are expecting Mercedes quality & pissed when they figure out they haven't gotten a Mercedes.

VW is getting killed by the stories, and for some reason, despite sharing ~90 % of the same parts, the NB has a horrible reputation, compared with the Golf.

Also VW has the ability to delude itself that it can change the fundamnetals of car sales in the US, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, GM & Ford all differentiated their more upscale offerings by making a new brand & building new dealerships.

Why do they bother to import the Eurovan when they sell <100/month?

We were staying @ a local resort, parked our TDI Golf next to an '03 Eurovan, so I teased they driver, so you're one of the 7 people in the US to buy a Eurovan? Poor guy looked like I kicked him in the nuts.

Because it's not a very attractive name. Someone at work said when they say Toureg, they for some reason think of "old hag". Heh...not something I want to associate with my vehicle.

Oh, the reliability thing has always been a problem for VW- now it's biting them in the butt again.
