obviously that picture lies. That middle connecter is not gonna be there on the launched product.

Price will be close to 750 euros on release day here in Greece so i suspect the fudzilla price could be accurate.

Yea, I'm kind of surprised this ultra highend part doesn't have that. Even the Intel graphics based laptops we deploy at work all have display port (Elitebook 8440P's). It would probably get rid of that awkwardly placed DVI port if they used display port or more HDMI.

I'm sure they have their reasons... but I can't help but think even HDMI ports would have made more sense. < shrug >
3D Vision Surround. Most of the compatible monitors are dual-link DVI only, so if NV used DP, they'd have to pack in very expensive DP-to-DL-DVI adapters.

But most people looking at that set up have money for this hobby. They could have done HDMI and/or DP. I just think it looks odd, but if it doesn't affect cooling ability, then it shouldn't really matter (I don't climb behind my computer very often to see how pretty the back of my cards are :) ).

If you watch the Asus video linked in this thread, the card has 3 dual link dvi ports and mini display port.
The card comes with a DVI-Hdmi dongle as well as a DVI-vga dongle.

691 mhz is a 13% overclock - very respectable for an x2 card.

Wasn't it supposed to launch now, like 30 minutes ago?

Note: Overclocking capability may be varied by different cards and platform. Extreme cooling is required to achieve 150% faster.

lol, I guess they don't realize 150% faster means 2.5 times as fast.

When I was a kid it was called "Chinese arithmetic". ;)

@IDC

Yeah that 3rd DVI port... right smack in the middle... so it can cut off air flow (/_\)
That doesnt make sense to me... but what do I know.

the fan choice looks odd too, it looks like the type that blows air downards... but it needs to blow it to the sides so each of those heatsinks on the sides of it can get cooled. Maybe because of the size of the fan, it can move enough air anyways... but it seems like a odd choice.

No idea... I suspect part of the reason the price is so high is because its new and flashy...
But yeah... doubt they ll sell cheaper than a 6990, which is most likely gonna out performan the 590.

Stock cooling = suxx . always.
Why ?? I don't know, maybe it's better that way .. all I know is computer cases as they are sold suck @ cooling (yes even all those fancy antecs and coolermasters - they don't even remotely compare to what you can build yourself from only silent 200mm's and aluminium bars).

Maybe nobody actually cares :) (just look at datacenters and server box's .. meh)

No, just no .
The original GPU is more than 20% faster, 13% overclock means total fail and 7% underclock at least.
You're still better off getting real cooling and clocking it back to 580 levels

Mmm ... looks like the 590 is a lot quieter than the hd 6990, and only slightly more noisier than the gtx 580.

...But how is that possible?

Quite easy, the reference cooling solution on the hd6990 is pure shit, that's all.

Fan.

AMD's fan is terrible flow/noise. I never liked their choice. It used to make sense when it vented all the exhaust outside the case, but with the 6990, some of the exhaust goes into the case, and u still get crazy noise. Poor design choice, IMO.

Edit: To be fair, its not the whining fan noise that irritates the crap out of me but just airflow.

They had their ear next to it and backed up 70 feet when they tested the noise for the 590. :p

EDIT1: Someone has 590 benchmarks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZxPqroC37c

It looks like it trade blows with the 6990.

Trades blows at 1920 res is expected from what we know about the core speed and SLI scaling.

It all comes down to 2 points:
1. 2560 res 4/8xAA & Multi monitor res.
2. How good can it OC.

Temps and noise is not very relevant unless the card just dies from overheating (i'm sure it won't). People who folk out $700 bucks for this setup, and the accompanying 30' monitor or tripple monitors should already have water cooling or folk out some extra for it.

Edit: 3rd factor, ultimate rig with SLI 590 or CF 6990 and multi monitor performance. If ur gonna go all out, may as well go all out and get 2 of these cards. :D

If you're gonna go all out, you'll pick a quad SLI or CFx4 , WC it and OC it to death - any day over getting 2x 2-gpu card ;)

No, just no. Fail is when a comapny provides an end user with a "turbo" flip switch that only provides a 4% overclock while voiding the warranty and increasing the volume of the fan from a harley davidson to a jet engine.
