The prices for those things are a joke. Why anyone would want to pay that much for unusable computer hardware is waaaaaay beyond me.
They have no artistic appeal- look the same as any other video card.
They habe no functional use- by todays standards every aspect of their performance is pathetic.
Yet you get goofs shelling out over a thousand every time one goes up for sale just because there weren't many made.
Big deal.
I guess there's no more harm in that than the beer cans I used to have on the shelf when I was a kid. I suppose collecting trash isn't without precedent.whats wrong with having 3dfx cards in the shelves?

Bah, the V5 6k may be rare, but it's not as rare as the motherboard that 3dfx was working on. Yeah, that's right. Just like nVidia, they were working on an integrated motherboard design and actually had three (I think) prototypes made. One was actually working and featured in an issue of MaximumPC a while back. Now that's a REAL 3dfx collector's piece.

OMFG! Squeeeelllllll! 3fdx! If the 6K is worth fifteen HUNDRED, the mobo is worth fifteen THOUSAND! It's at least as useless, twice as rare, and just dripping 3dfx nostalgia! Now that MB would be interesting ... but probably NOT worth $1525.

No, because it's not a good point.Get the point?
Cars are pretty much acknowledged as collectables, and have been for decades.

OK, the article was older than I thought and I got some of the details mixed up. 3dfx didn't develop a Northbridge, but they did try developing a BX based motherboard with a V3 IGP with (get this) a Vortex2 base audio component. The code name was called Brazos. Had to dig WAY back from an old copy of MaxPC (June '02) to get this.
Anyway, I scanned the one page of the article that makes reference to this. I apologize for the poor quality image, but my UMAX 2100U absolutely sucks and I'm about to trash it.

UPDATE: OK, I re-scanned it using a different scanner and it came out much nicer this time. You should be able to read the text with no problems.

Would you buy a million dollar stamp just to mail it?
If you could afford to bid on a $1000+ item, you will GREATLY benefit from the tax write-off of the charitable donation of said amount. So you wind up spending only a couple hundred bucks for a nifty slice of rare PC history.
2) This item is not purchased to be USED, it is a COLLECTOR'S ITEM. Would you buy a million dollar stamp just to mail it? Come on.... quit squealing about it being "useless junk" compared to a Radeon Anything... who cares HOW fast it is by today's standards? It's not going to be used much anyways!

Somethings BlueMax needs to understand:
1. I could afford that video card if I wanted that video card. It's not worth $10 cash to me to have a POS video card that I can only look at.
2. Very few people in the world consider this a "valuable collectors item". I'm with Keys, just because a few people are dumb enough to consider this collectable, doesn't mean I shouldn't laugh at them.
