I just got a Volcano and it was very ruff. So I lapped it,which was very easy to do. I'm now running my Duron 800@950 with arctic silver, and temps are good.
jockdisvdude: The answer to your question is "yes." A Volcano II HSF will do fine with an EPoX 8k7a and a 1.2GHz CPU. (I used one with an EPoX 8KTA3/+ and a 1.33GHz T-Bird overclocked to 1.54GHz and temps were within an acceptable range.) However, I always use thermal compound and you should as well.
my volcano II wasnt the smoothest when i got it, but i applied some arctic silver and i get 42C @ 100% load on my 1ghz. I find that more than acceptable.
