I don't think the Volari is a good product and it probably never will be but if it helps keep prices down then that's a good thing isn't it?

You're a moron. I don't know how anybody can say that more competition is bad. 5 years ago, you could say the same thing about ATI and their Rage Fury Maxx.
Ummm, you don't know much about Matrox then. The G400 Max was smoking back in the day. And the Parahelia, while not the fastest card out when it came out, was respectable. But gaming never has been their man market. They shoot towards content creation desktop jockeys. They've got the best 2D quality in the industry and triple head display output. Three monitors from one card is quite a feat.

As sparkyclarky mentioned, the G400 Max kicked some serious ass back in the day. And ATI's Rage chips were good on their own accords with hardware MPEG2 and other nice features. These companies are allowed a little screwup now and again - the MAXX, the attempt at targeting the Parhelia to gamers ... that was an error in judgement.
But if you're trying to hack a new chunk out of the market, you'd better damn well make a good first impression. Hell, even the Xabre series got its little piece of the integrated-graphics pie, and we all know that we'd rather eat bees than play anything past Quake 3 on them.
Using hacked drivers to brutalize image quality in specific benchmark-targeted games does NOT constitute a "good first impression" at all - more so when even with the hacks you can barely keep pace. If they'd taken some of that money they threw at advertising ... "Not one ... BUT TWO!!!!1!1!one!1!1! Crappy DX9 Processors!" and thrown it back at R&D, they might have been able to come up with something worthwhile. As it is, I'd rather see a GhettoTech "FX5200 SLI" in my machine than the Volari.

Firstly, it's only BS when it's inaccurate - and unless they've invented BIOS flashes for "Crappy Hardware" Volari still blows various woodland animals for pocketchange.
This is a proper review. They see some stuff that doesn't fly right, they start digging, whereas THG simply throws in a few advertisments midpage. Hint - The only other company with "Extreme" in it's graphic lingo is Intel.

man, this is the card that invented Anti-Anti-Aliasing. that just HAS to be a premiere and big kudos to whatever jerk tought that sh|t up. I mean tweaking the LOD and texture detail are dirty enough, but actually rendering at a lower res and upscaling, what were they thinking... and then they STILL sucked I wouldnt pay anything over $100 for this card cous anything from $100 onwards will beat this card down and keep stomping onnit till it's flat as a pie.
Hell, you can get a geForce FX5200 for about $50 these days, no need to spend $100 to walk all over XGI.

As I remeber the 2 chip design is horridly inefficient so they are gonna cost way to much to even consider buying one. But, wont the single chip cards be a WAY better card for the dollar, and maybe could compete with a 5200 or 9200se or something? I just dont want Volari's first attemptto be 100% suxor
I think that they will figure it out by their 3rd gen card. Drivers by then wont need to be "optimized" or anything like that because it'll perform same as ATI and Nvidia, everyone is way too angry right now to have patience.
lol and all of u guys say that 30fps is not smooth? 30fps is smooth to the eye.... matrox rulz!!!! , best image quality out there!
