Thats great. Who was talking about having to rationalize sunrocket to their wife back a few days ago...Follow george's lead, MASSAGER!

Can anyone recommend a good headset to connect to the Unidens? I don't know much about headset quality and the like, but I hate having to hold the phone to my head if I'm on the phone and the computer at the same time.

i'd actually switched from sprint to cingular earlier in the year, and my old sanyo cellphone headset (that i got for free - but it costs like 14 bucks at the sprint store) fit it perfectly. i liked the headset a lot even when i had my sprint phone, so that turned out to be a quite a bit of luck for me.

so - cellphone headsets built for sanyo phones work with the unidens quite well.

Jabra is a good brand. They have the gel earplug things with different sizes to accomodate any ear size.

If you want to go inexpensive, any Headset works pretty well, so you could go to a Dollar store and pick one up. Make sure it has the mini-plug connector.

BTW, "It just works." Tripling capacity seems just what the doctor ordered to make SR work with more consistency. Hope it continues with this lack of any outages, almost a month now.

I have been using sunrocket for the last 4-5 months and unfortunately i can not say good things about it. Below are the shortcomings:

1. Connection drops out in the middle of your conversation (received the same comments from other people as well)
2. Connectivity gets really worse. People can not hear me especially when there is VPN connection (might be a shortcoming with my router since the gizmo is behing the router but i do not believe so)
3. Voice mail controls (over the phone) are very primitive and lots of things are just wrong
4. Company does not meet their commitments (e.g. back in Feb, they said second line will be available by the end of Q2 and here we are at the end of Q3)
5. Two line thing does not work at all due to
5.1. you can only have one number appear as the caller
5.2 certain services are only available to primary number

Conclusion
If you have a cell phone and buying the sunrocket voip for international or long distance calls only, it is still a good deal
if you are going to use the phone daily basis, just forget it. Let me give you an example, you are on the phone with let's say comcast support and you have been waiting for 30 mins. On the 30th minute Gizmo decides to drop your connection. I was not a happy customer. Above all this happens at least 3-4 times a week. I also have the the deal from comcast where my connectivity speed is 8mbps download and 768kbps upload.

Yes, the "two line" thing is only available for incoming calls. Outgoing uses the main # as ID.

I've been on the S/R VoIP since Dec. 25, 2004 and have yet to experience any of the complaints bullet has.

Most people on SR don't have your issues, so let's look at them one by one:

1. Connection drop out - Could very well be related to a router issue. I had a similar problem when I set up a customer account using a Speedstream Router. Calls would just work for 3 seconds then drop. I took the gizmo and placed it right after the modem, it worked perfectly. The brand of router is somewhat important for compatibility.

2. Which router are you using? Have you tried putting the gizmo right after the modem and enabling dynamic, setting it to 200 or close? I have seen problems with some routers, so you may want to try the other setting.

3. Could you elaborate on what is "primitive" about voicemail controls over the phone, and what is "just wrong"? After pressing 00 you choose between the two VM accounts and the messages are read. You have several ways to deal with the Voicemails, nothing of which appears "primitive." I would be interested in finding out what you are refering to.

4. SR never "committed" to have the second line port working. Especially not by the end of Q2. I was told that there "may" be a possibility that the second line port "may" be opened up after the summer. When I asked whether that would be free of charge the CS did not know. There could be an additional charge for this gigantic feature of two outgoing lines from one base account, something no VOIP provider currently offers. To make this a "complaint" is preposterous. SR is already giving away a second incoming line with Voicemail, something no other VOIP provider does.

5. You can make your second "signature" number your "outgoing" number by logging into the website, going to your second number by clicking "Change Accounts" down to that number. Then use the CALL BUTTON next to any number in your call log or in your
Contact List. The person you are calling will see that number come up on his Caller ID, not your signature number. You have effectively made an outgoing call from your "signature" number.

That's really cool! I didn't realize you could do that. Looks like I have some playing to do tonight!!

Sorry to hear you've had such trouble bulletproof...I agree that it sounds like a lot of it can probably be attributed to your router. I've never seen problems like what you describe, and I even put a TON of strain on my broadband connection to test out the quality (running three computers connected to the network simultaneously, all connected through web browswers and instant messages, 2 of the 3 connected playing World of Warcraft, and 2 of the three running TeamSpeak). I've never seen so much as a dip in the quality, and the international calling is in my experience above and beyond even a POTS line.

I have no qualms with this, but trying to change the ways of parents.. heh.. they like physical boxes to push buttons and see :) That would be my only complaint on that aspect. My other complaints i've made known already.. heh.

Alright I am stuck talking with a friend and had this crazy idea to be able to call FROM anywhere using your Sunrocket account. It combines using the website interface "call" feature and the "find me" forwarding feature. Basically, this is what I am thinking:

1. Leave your house and go to any other phone in the world that is next to a computer.
2. Login to sunrocket.com
3. Set "Find me" Forwarding to the number of the phone next to the computer.
4. Go to the call log and click "call" next to any of the numbers.
5. Sunrocket will call that number and then dial your SR number which will automatically be forwarded to the "find me" number.

So in theory as long as you have a phone and computer this should work? I need to try it but I don't think it can dial extensions too. What you guys think? This could allow for you to make cheap international or long distance calls from anywhere because the way it appears to work is you would be charged for the call to:

1. The number you dial
2. The number you are at.

Its basically hijacking sunrockets low international or national calls?

Well if parents are going to be so old-tech that they need buttons and boxes and such, wouldn't they have the same concerns with email?

I don't know about you, but my parents prefer stuff like that. My poor mother can hardly figure out how to turn on a computer let alone use one, and to this day hasn't programmed any numbers into her cell phone (carries a pocket phone book with her everywhere instead), but she can figure out SunRocket. She came to visit a while back and was using it without any hitch--so much so that she burned my international allowance!

I should send her the bill. :)

I have to give it to you, this is ingenious :D ... it should work because i have set the 'Find Me' option to forward missed calls to my cell phone, however my cell phone doesn't list my sunrocket phone number on the callerid when this call gets rerouted through... the number on the caller id shows the actual caller's info. It would suck if you did this only to get a fat bill on your landline phone.

1. If it was only me, that would certainly be the case. However, for fact I know others have also complained about dropping connections and gizmo simply being not connected (ready and power lights on and voice is off). In many occasions I have simply powered off the gizmo (this was sunrocket support's recommendation as well) waited for 5-10 mins for the server to flag me as off (my speculation of the process) and powered it back on. Bottom line. the service is just brutal. Also be aware that the gizmo opens in website on port 80 connections which is very stupid. Why port 80 and not some other non-common port.

2. DL-614 is my router. Does it get any more streamline than that? All ports are set for VoIP
3. Is pressing any button returning "your message is saved" response enough? or how about horrible voice quality?
4. Wel well well, what do you know, our friend georgepa might be working for these guys after all ... On two occasions, sunrockets support personnel and prior to that their sales person promised me that it would be ready by Q2. In fact that was the main reason I bought it.
5. I know and I have done that already but please don't make me start on switching numbers beucase it is a deep and painful story by itself. After sunrocket's support telling me that it is no big deal to make your secondary to primary and vice versa, my signature service stopped working and i can not get it to work since even after spending hours on the phone/chat with them. I don't want even want to begin lost voice mail boxes, not kicking in voice mails for couple weeks and others. Maybe i should sue these guys for lost business .. not a bad idea ..

These are not issues I'm making out of my @ss because i have some private agenda with Sunrocket. They do suck! This certainly does not mean other VoIPs are better. In the next couple weeks I will be asking for my money back. Ohh here is another one, their support is supposed to be getting back 2 u in X number of days right .. well I'm still waiting for a call after 2 months. Thumbs down .. wayyy down.

Hey whatever. Your 6th post ever to this site and you make little sense. I am not going to argue with you, but consider that on this particular site and also on other sites (such as BBR) out of maybe 150 different posters who are signed up with SR (at varying degrees of happiness) not a single one has ever complained or mentioned about:

1 When using VM pressing any button generates "Message is saved" prompt.

2. CS promised us for free a full-functioning true second line making the signature line a fully featured outgoing line by June

3. Voicemail "not kicking in" for a couple of weeks

Given the absence of any complaints of that nature anywhere else it is logically a unique situation where fate has targeted you alone with these grievances, at least whe it comes to fellow posters an different sites.

Now, I still find it quite ridiculous that you actually signed up for the service mainly because you believed you were promised a full second line by June of this year. Are you even aware that SR has the lowest price of all unlimited services and still provides the most complete signature line package of all VOIP companies, as the signature line can be an ANYWHERE LINE, comes with its own voicemail box, can be used as an outgoing line (using CALL buttons) and can be customized to the same extent the primary line can. Only Voicepulse, Lingo and Broadvox include a free "signature number," but theirs is merely a distinctive ring, lacking individual voicemail boxes and customization, let alone allowing it to be used as an outgoing number via Call Manager.

Good luck with the VOIP provider that for under $17 gives you TWO separate outgoing lines. Actually, for that matter, there is no VOIP provider that gives you that for under $40.00 At $33 Sunrocket is the best priced for such an udertaking, and you get 4 phone numbers, each with their own voicemail box. If you believe all VOIPs suck you may have to go back to good old POTS then. Never mind that for 2 separate lines with all calling features you actually have to pay at minimum $100 per month. But, of course, if you sue Sunrocket for "lost business" and win the case you can probably afford 100 outgoing lines easily, so that may indeed be the way to go for you.

Didn't realize the 2nd line was not going to be fully functional. I was looking forward to be able to call out on the 2nd line when the wife is gabbing with her sister. What is the workaround? Does it make sense to give out line 2 to all your contacts so line 1 is free to call out when you need it?

It doesn't matter what number you give out, really. When you are on the phone using one of the 2 numbers you can't make an outgoing call with the sig number. You can receive calls on both numbers, they both have voicemail. So, generally speaking, you could be on the phone gabbing, another person calls. You see on the Caller ID who it is. Then you decide whether you want to just let the phone go to voicemail or pick it up. If you pick up the new caller (by pressing the "Flash" or "Talk" button) you can jump back and forth between the 2 calls. You may also conference both parties together.

To make a call while someone is talking on the phone you would have to resort to cell at this point.

Oooh, nice.

I'll have to play with this. It'd be an easy way to actually be able to make international calls from my cell phone without having to pay the 80 bajillion dollars a minute. I'd get SunRocket rates for the international call, and my cell phone would charge me just the same as they would for any incoming call, at least in theory, right?

This just keeps getting cooler and cooler. I love toys like this. :)

So how much of a confirmation is this that it works? Or is there any way to confirm it? I am having some comcast work done on my house so I can't try this out until the weekend. But it sounds exciting.. Want to be our guinea pig for the day? :)
