SunRocket have FAX capabilities? Extra?

Month to month should be $19.95 like Packet 8.

Does SunRocket charge that 1.50 fee?

Macro-

Month-to-month cost is $19.95 with SR. Just use promo code WBFOGQ

You still get the 2 free phones.

No, SR does not charge any kind of "recovery fee" or taxes of any kind.

Faxing: Faxing is hit or miss. Many report that faxing works fine with their machines, others have trouble. T.38 is supported. So, faxing right now is somewhat of a hit or miss. Some use their second free number as a fax number by forwarding it to a free internet fax service which then sends all incoming faxes to your e-mail. I was told that full 100% faxing capabilities are being worked on.

FYI--

I have had good success faxing with my Brother MFC420-CN multifunction fax machine (great machine, often available for ~$100 BTW) by enabiling "Overseas mode". This mode provides additional tolerance for line noise and latency often ossociated with international calls. See related thread here.

George. Can you fax out on those services?

Troy...
Will be faxing off a Canon MP 390 multifuction. Anyone have any experience with that?

I've pretty much read all of the posts in this thread and have come to "see" that...
1. S/R does not make any fax claims.
2. Fax in may work, while fax out does not.
3. Fax out may work, while fax in does not.
4. Both fax in and fax out may work.

5. #s 2 thru 4 appear to be FAX Machine make and model dependent.
😀😀😀

TC, Good information in your link to the Vonage Forum.

Go to k7.net to sign up for a free fax number. Then forward your second SR # to it. The faxes you receive on that line will go straight to your e-mail. You can't send faxes from that, but any faxmodem should work fine with SR. The "hit or miss" usually applies to standalone fax machines. Many report that it works for them. I have an older HP Laserjet 3150 connected, and it works fine without modification. If nothing else you can purchase one of those older type machines on ebay for $30 or so.

It seems I spoke too soon about putting the gizmo behind my firewall. That worked up until the configuration changed. I had my verizon number transferred over to sunrocket account and basically the whole thing stopped working. Once I put the gizmo over to the WAN side (I've got 2 IPs from comcast, so just have it connected in parallel with my network) the new configuration was uploaded and now everything is back to normal.

I'm waiting on a call from level 2 tech right now, will ask them if they can give me some more info on what the gizmo needs exactly in terms of open ports and protocols. Hopefully with that I'll be able to stick it behind my firewall once and for all. Will post again when I have some more info 🙂

Heh, sorry guys, looks like the best option is to have the gizmo outside of your network. The port info is as follows, unless you can get a static IP (on the WAN side) specifically for the gizmo, you're not going to be able to do this.

All UDP:
5060-5061
16384-65535

Guess I'll just be leaving mine outside of my network. Sucks having to pay another $5 per month for an extra IP, but it works.

Can't you firewall your network after the Gizmo? What is it that someone can really do, or want to do by hacking your Telco-211?

It's not about protecting the gizmo, I can't have another NAT device between my modem and my firewall. Have a rather complicated setup and putting the gizmo in there would screw a lot of things up. I can live with my current setup though, it's still cheaper then verizon, and I have a second IP just in case 🙂

George (or someone else) posted on dslreports that they had to back off the CID change this morning, which caused today's outage. No one knows when it will go in now, sometime in June supposedly.

I'm looking for someone who has recently had echo problems which was fixed with a call to SR tech support.

I suspect that SR makes a change to a specific parameter in your configuration file -- but I need a volunteer to tell me their MAC address of their gizmo.
I promise to do no harm, and will not disclose any information I see in your config file with anyone. Ever. And will delete it promptly.
Any takers? (only if you had an echo problem that is now resolved)
PM me.

I just started hearing echoes on random calls recently, never noticed it before. I haven't called it in to SR yet but the standard VOIP tests show my Comcast connection has good QOS. I wonder if something is going on with the latest firmware.

Regarding the caller ID, when I talked to the tech he told me that if it's not working by Monday, I should give them a call back. A few more days it looks like.

I talked to them about this too. The story I got was that SR is all set up and ready to go, they are just waiting for Global Crossing (the number reservoir) to make it happen. Everyone listed under Broadwing numbers have been working fine for a while. So it seems a bit of an external problem that will be fixed as soon as GC is in line. He wouldn't give a date, but said, "early june."

They are definitely changing things. The "Anonymous" is gone, at least from my Caller ID display. Now it is either blank or, when I am on the phone and Call Waiting ID pops up it actually is labelled "Talk."

Something is certainly going on with Caller ID. My wife just called and said that a friend of hers showed up with full Caller ID name. They were not entered in the Contact List. Now, that family is also on Sunrocket. Still, they never came back with Caller ID Name before.

ttown,

How do you access someone's Gizmo if you know his MAC address? I want to try it with a friend, if it works I will share the information.

Still no CID fix in the ATL, three calls today showed up as anon. One, in fact, showed as 'anon - unknown number' which is odd. I have unknowns blocked but I see one of these every once in a while.

Something weird is definitely going on...when I call out, my number shows up as "unknown" on other's CID. I don't have CID turned off in the options. Also, everyone else who has called me so far has called from a Cingular cellphone and shows up as "wireless caller," which they did previously. I haven't had time to have others call me from landlines, but I will test this afternoon.

werk-

I called tech support and was told that they already have Name Caller ID working but are testing it before they are rolling it out for all. Another tech had told me on Friday that they were rolling it out that morning but it caused a problem so they had to roll it back. Maybe these other messages that weren't there before are their way of testing the system nationally before they are putting Name Caller ID on again.
