I've now tried to renew twice via their email and no confirmation after a couple days. I guess they don't WANT people to renew!

Not a good sign.

American Express - gone!
Amazon GC - gone!

I guess you could still get a couple of phones.

I want to be able to apply my rewards to my next year's invoice! :D:D:D

That seems strange RideFree--I just logged in to double check and I still have the Amazon gift certificate listed on mine. You sure?

It still shows for me but if you select it and hit 'ok' or whatever at the bottom it tells you they are out of stock. You can try it and if by some chance it works you can cancel on the next screen.

Yeah, I had to call in after trying to renew via e-mail and via the online form, and they issued a ticket, and in response to the ticket provided me with another link to their online form (or the same link to the same form previously used), which finally worked.

Anyone have any luck switching their sunrocket number to another service like Vonage? I'm seriously thinking of getting another service after the year is up.

Looks kind of nice, different and works with the DCT-64x Uniden phone system you already have. Not bad for $22.85. There are probably some merchants at www.giveanything.com that carry that one or the DCT640 handset, so you can use your points that way.

The 750 is available from StereoAdvantage.com through a giveanything.com g/c for $29.90 + shipping which was like $6 for me. I really wish they would bring back the Amazon g/c's, they have the 640 for $27 w free shipping.

On a positive note I just noticed that the giveanything.com g/c can be used for restaurants.com. Most (but not all) restaurants though them offer $25 cards for $10 and at any given time you can easily google for a coupon for 50 or 60% off making them $5 or 4. So you could get 5 or 6 vouchers worth $25 each for a total of $125 or $150. Current code 49716 is good through 2/14 for 50% off. Go to restaurants.com and put your zip code in to see the restaurants in your area. I've used them 4 or 5 times and never had a problem getting the discount at the b&m restaurant.

Soulassassin-

Yeah, Restaurant.com is awesome. We use it about once a month, good on the ol' wallet. There is this really cool BBQ-place near us we go to as a family. With the 60% off coupon I pay $4 for a $25 certificate, with giveanything.com I just use some of my reward cash. We eat $25 worth and walk out of there having paid the $4 of reward money and $5 in real cash as a tip.

IMSeeker-

Just call them up and get it done. They are switching support and sales from the Phillipines to Canada, so that's probably why you are experiencing the delay. A call will do the trick.

I am debating whether I should just get the $199/13 month renewal deal or sign up for a completely new account with 15 months for $199. Transferring my numbers in-network would probably be a bit of a hassle, but I clear my slate on referrals, start with 0. Since my current account's referrals have maxed out maybe worth it. Has anyone done something like that? Can it be done using a different member of the same household (i.e. using my wife's name and credit card?)

The coolest part about sunrocket is the hold music that the first line hears as you answer your call waiting. Makes em LOL every time.

I'd really like to see the Amazon credits return, too!

I had some rewards show up in my account and planned to use them to get the DCX640. It's been in my cart at Amazon since Friday. As of this morning, still no Amazon credit available, as has been said, and now the DCX640 is listed as unavailable directly from Amazon.

:disgust:

So, if your SR phone starts ringing when someone calls your old # you know you are almost there. A day later the old line goes dead, and it's done.

If you want to be up-to-date: Call your old provider and ask. They should show that your number is to be ported away from them and should have an exact port date showing as well.

In my case, I received no such email or phone call. I was expecting one, which I never received. I also tried to check the status via "My Account" on SunRocket.com. It simply stayed at "pending completion". It wasn't until I called SunRocket from my SunRocket line that I receieved an automated message - "If you're calling about your number transfer, it was completed on <insert date here>".

Having the email would have been nice, so I wouldn't have had to call about it, but the automated message made it clear enough.

The Tony-

I knew the port was done when I picked up the old phone line and found it to be without dialtone. Works every time. :)

astrosfan-

I am just the inquisitive type. One of my clients loved the idea of SR for his office, but wanted a couple of vanity numbers. I called SR and they found some good ones, ending in 1100 and 1101. As you know sales, CS and billing was outsourced to the Phillipines, so I was surprised to get a dude with a decidedly American lingo thing going on. Only the "eh" gave him away as a Canadian dude. He said that sales is all in Canada now (as of last week.) He also said that tech support is coming back to North America from the Phillipines shortly.

Yup, that's when I decided to call in, because at that point, and at least last I checked, it still shows as "pending" in my account under "My Account>Number Transfer". The email and/or call had also never materialized.

Does anyone have any idea why my subscription to this forum (you know: when you get an email that a new message has been posted to it) stops evey once in a while? I know that you must visit the forum and check the newest messages before the feature of emailing you a notice continues, but sometimes the emails just stop. When I log on it still says that I am a subscriber, however.

My first year's service with SunRocket ends in mid-March. Does anyone know if and when I might be notified by SR that my year is almost up and I need to renew? I don't want the service to suddenly go dead on my anniversary date!

My year was up late January, and I got the first notice about a month before. I wouldn't worry about not having a dial tone though because for some reason my renewal attempt(s) initially did not go through, and I didn't realize it until February, but my line was still functioning normally.

Can this service work with a Fax machine on the same line? Maybe I'd have to disable their voice mail and let my answering still function like I do now...

You may need to re-assess your annual commitment...
3GSM could change everything! This and UMA...
3GSM It's small, it's boring and won't turn any heads - but it probably spells the end of the road for Skype, Vonage and any other hopeful independent VoIP companies. It's Nokia's 6136 phone, which allows you to make calls over your home or office Wi-Fi network, as well as on a regular cellular network.

Your post should come with the caveat "for me" as in "SR may be inexpensive, but it is very trouble prone...in my case." As you can see in this thread, nobody else has your issue. That does not make it less real for you, but the point is that your issue is CLEC related and has to be taken care of at the local level. It is not a national issue that has befallen anyone else here, and looking at other forums it has not been an issue outside a very few. Sorry you are having that particular issue, but it certainly does not mean that the service is "trouble prone" on a general level if your local CLEC screws up the way they have.

Georgepa,

How can you say the nobody else has his issue? He's complaining about Sunrocket being trouble prone. Are you seriously claiming that by looking through this thread, no one else appears to think SR is troubleprone? I, for one, can tell you that you're wrong...SR *is* troubleprone, and I've discussed my problems with SR in this thread and on my site at length. I've also said that I'm still keeping SR, because I don't need that much from my phone service, so if it's working most of the time, I'll be happy with it.

As has been pointed out on other forums, you have a habit of pouncing on anyone who has a problem with SR and immediately insisting that their problems are isolated, and they shouldn't make generalized comments. If that is true, then how are you qualified to make generalized comments?

Something else that has been pointed out on other forums: in doing so you are appointing yourself moderator on all SR-related issues. You're posting to answer every negative SR comment with a positive remark that everyone loves SR, and that the poster in question is in the minority.

There are, in reality, *many* people having problems with SR, just as there are many people liking. I like SR. On the other hand, I get business and personal calls that disconnect as soon as I pick up the phone, with the gizmo placed behind the cable modem and ahead of the router, just as SR demands. I don't think this is a crucial problem. On the other hand, others might...that's why there are forums like this one. So people can post their problems and bitch about SR's support when they feel like it, and others can read them all for a generic overview.

SR is a company already making headlines for their very shady Hogwash campaign, where they're rewarding bloggers for bitching about other companies on their blogs. The campaign has no positive rewards system...there's no reward for a constructive blog, for example. They're just rewarding bloggers and encouraging them to rant.

I'm suspicious of the company, at this point. I'm also suspicious of the way you discount any post critical of SR. It's not your place to make generalized assumptions about SR or about the validity of someone's comments...the whole *point* of a public forum is that I can say "SR's great" while someone else can say "SR sucks", and readers understand that we're all representing personal experiences and opinions. You're trying to go a step further and speak, effectively, for the entire forum.

Just my $0.02. I think new users would be happier with SR if their reception on this forum and others was more respectful, less domineering, and more constructive, even if we can't suggest solutions to their problems.

D.

"Can this service work with a Fax machine on the same line? Maybe I'd have to disable their voice mail and let my answering still function like I do now... "

You can use your signature number as an incoming fax number. Set it to distinctive ring and do the same with the fax machine (most modern fax machines can be programmed to hear certain distinctive rings.) When a regular call comes in on the main number the fax machine stays silent. You can then pick the call up or let it go to voicemail. If a call comes in on that signature number, the distinctive ring will correspond with the fax machine's settings and the fax will pick up.

Well, I'm calling RIGHT NOW, I've been on hold 13:41 and counting - I should not have to do this to PAY THEM MONEY. The link (I've tried it TWICE) should work to renew.

ImSeeker:

I've noticed much longer hold times as of late too. Between that and the loss of online chat, their customer service seems to have taken a turn for the worse, as of late. However, I'm wondering if this is all a product of their transition of customer support to Canada from abroad. One can only hope so and that it's only temporary.

RideFree:

I sent an email to builditbetter a few days ago - perhaps that spurred the activation of the Amazon rewards again. I don't even see Amex on the list anymore.

That said, I redeemed my points, even though the DCX640, which I intended to use them for, is now only available from third parties at Amazon. I do see the DCX750 now available directly from them. I know a couple folks here have mentioned and ordered it. Can anyone tell me how it compares to the DCX640 - size, features, quality, etc? It looks similar, with updates to button layout, albeit with less buttons. I can't quite tell the size - it looks like it could be a larger handset and dock than the 640. I like the 640, so I'm curious to know how the 750 differs.

No. They're OOS. Available from other sellers on Amazon, though.

The DCX750 is available, but I have heard little to nothing about it, since it's new. Not sure if it's simplified compared to the 640 or has more features. Also not sure if its the same form factor/size as the 640. Anyone who can answer is welcome to, as I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in finding out.

They're available from J&R through Amazon and the g/c's still work although you don't get free shipping. It's worth noting that if you cash in $50 of Amazon codes and use less than $50 then you just have a credit on your account. ie One phone + shipping is $34 so you'll have a $16 credit. Shipping was $6.35 for one for me and $7 for two so order two together if possible.

I swore I posted something last weekend that listed a vendor on giveanything.com that had the 750's but I must have gotten distracted by my crack pipe and not hit submit. I did send something to builditbetter so they must have gotten the hint.
