I got mine also. Will this install over Visual Studio 2003 or will it be a separate program? I want to install it but I want to make sure I can still use VS2003 for my normal production coding.

Salvation this will install as another program. Same thing with you installed Visual Studio.Net 2002 & then Visual Studio.Net 2003. 2005 uses .Net Framework 2. 2003 uses .Net Framework 1.1. Eventhough this will install as a seperate program and shouldn't muck up your 2003 install i still would not install it on a machine that im doing production coding on. I never install any beta software on a machine where production coding would be done...its always better to be safe than sorry. Now what you could do is either get Virtual PC or VMWare and install 2005 in there. This would allow you to set up a test box without having another machine.

I recently took the MS beta class for ASP.NET 2.0. I was sort of surprised to see the program running through Virtual PC. I'd never used VPC before then and was pleseantly surprised by how useful that it. I'd recommend using it for those that don't want to take a chance messing up their current machine.

Just got mine too.

Only installed SQL server at the moment. A number of nice improvements over SQL server 2k.

Haven't got round to installing Visual Studio yet - but will probably do it soon.

I ordered mine today, and i got it free. Not sure how long it'll take to get it, but this will nice as i'm starting a new project at work very soon 😀

I hear there's more than a little risk in installing some of this MS software if you have any idea of uninstalling it - i.e. it's certain to trash your OS. So the Virtual PC idea may be well founded. Any idea what the "nominal fee" is for non-MSDN subscribers? Thanks.

haha, a few days ago I signed up for this from Spain, and didn't even know they'd be sending me something. I guess my address here will just receive a nice package since I leave in less than 2 weeks.

You heard wrong. I had no problems uninstalling any of the community edition VS 2005 products and no problem uninstalling the earlier beta of VS 2005.

I think what I heard about was SQL Server beta, not sure.

I went through the process of ordering the software but wound up getting a message:

Gee, you'd think with all that sophisticated development software they could engineer a page that worked....

Edit: That was a few hours ago. I went through the process again and this time it worked. Free.

For those who are keeping score.....

Although the last page previously rung up at $5.99 shipping and $0.30 tax to MA on last page along with a request for CC info, it is now free.....

For those who were previously presented with a charge, you might want to try again.....

To those who received your copy, about how long did it take to arrive after ordering?

I'm not familiar with this "Team" version. Is it possible to set it up as a single user only format? I'd imagine that's how lots of us will want to use it. Thanks OP for the great deal! 🙂

Mine took about 4 weeks. However, I got an email after 2 weeks saying they were backordered and wouldn't be sent till the 25th. I received well before the 25th.

It's got Team Server in there but you don't have to use it. I don't believe much else is different and running just a single copy on your machine is no problem.

Hmmm... Uninstalling the prior *production* version of VS certainly trashed my OS. I'll be cloning a copy partition before installing this just to be safe.

I'm glad i'm not you then. I've installed and uninstalled all versions since VS6.0 without problems.
