it still bogs down on me today on my OCed quad core system, even with SP1 and those few things (indexing, UAC, etc) turned off. i always find myself reverting back to xp pro sp3.

Then you're doing it wrong.

Stop and think: almost all of us are using Vista with no hangups. It's you buddy.

its fast when i just do a clean install, once i load my apps on it (very few), it slows down.

same thing on my dads macbook pro, and my brothers imac 3.06Ghz...it just hates us i guess.

im anxiously awaiting for windows 7.

Desktop: Q9450 2.66Ghz @ 3.6Ghz | Asus P5Q Deluxe | GTX260 896MB | 2x2GB DDR2-1000 | Dell 2407WFP (A04) | XP Pro SP3

Which Vista did you try on that rig? Have you stress-tested your system after overclocking?

business SP1 and ultimate SP1, both x86. have x64 of ultimate and ill try that.

oh dont get me wrong, i dont hate vista. i just dont get how its slow on my decently fast computer(s). :(

ive also stress tested my rig too, at stock (2.66Ghz), 3.0Ghz, 3.2Ghz, 3.4Ghz, and 3.6Ghz...same thing each time.

edit: i do agree with googer though - xp just works for everything. low memory usage (ive got mine down to using less than 175MB at cold boot!) and the full 3.25GB for apps. vista i know is much better at memory management (although it uses way more memory at cold boot), but some programs just do not work in vista (messenger mate) which i definitely need and work in xp.

Vista x64 is the best Windows I've used yet.

If you mean by rolling over any machine with Vista on with a truck, I agree.

Might as well because you've trashed it with that garbage.

Wow, not clever at all.
How about deployment? Want to try to tear that word apart?

My problem with Vista is that the people who hate it are the same people who hated XP when it first came out.

The only reason I haven't switched to Vista is because it costs too much money.

I've been using Vista for over 2 years now (since RC1 Sept. 2006) and I never had any problems with it. Haven't used XP since.

I was one of the ones who hated XP when it came out but loved Vista right away. Go figure.

On my second computer which is P4c 2.4C/ 1GB Ram, Vista rus better/faster than XP.
This, of course, is the comparsion after installing same amounts of softwares.
What's especially better on Vista is that it just runs better without going through thousands of modifications.

Those who complain about Vista over XP should know that those days are over just like Windows 2000 being better than XP days are over.

Most University students can get Microsoft OSes for free via the MSDNAA program. I got Vista Business for free and installed it on my laptop. No complaints whatsoever once I found out how to set the UAC to my liking. Never saw what people were complaining about with Vista but it doesn't really seem to offer a lot more than XP. Though the truth is, I don't think there has been much changes to OSes in the past 3-5 years that would.

Vista adoption is horrible. Sorry.

I don't know where he's getting this "almost all of us" delusion from. All of my boxes at home and work are XP. My entire company is still XP. I know two people who use Vista, and neither is really happy, so I'm not switching anytime soon. One person I know went from XP to OSX for home use.

Ah, yes -- OS as a lifestyle choice. I need my OS to be hip and sleek. I'd go back to 2k if it weren't for wifi support and windows picture and fax viewer.

anyone know of a RAW file viewer in Vista? TweakUI in XP allowed you to view thumbnails and pictures without having to open up another app. It sucks having to load Adobe Bridge just to view the images or thumbnails in Vista.

This was the one disappointments of Vista for me...no built in RAW viewer. Other than that, Vista has been great.

DX10? Proper 64bit support? Dreamscape? Search 4.0? A better UI (start menu find is amazing)? Improved audio environment?

Ok that's all I've got off the top of my head. Uninstall program menu in control panel is way better too but that's kind of an odd "pro".

Actually, I loved 2K by comparison to XP. But it was more of a "I'm completely scarred by 98, 2K is amazing, and fuck whatever XP is". However, I moved from XP to Vista very quickly, mainly for hardware reasons but don't regret it at all. 32 to 64 bit was one of the more tangible upgrades since gaining the benefit of NT over previous windows OSes.

Yawn.

I agree that Vista wasn't all that it should have been feature-wise. However, there's no doubt that it is better than XP is just about every possible way.
