Vista RC2

FYI: quoting MS' download page "This build may not have the same level of support or servicing via Windows Update as RC1, and you may not be able to upgrade from this build to the final version of Windows Vista."

BTW I downloaded RC1. Would it have been better to get the 64-bit version instead of the 32-bit? Running it on a brandnew C2D system.

I never even installed the RC1 version yet (I am still tset driving "pre RC1")

I believe it is actually June, but really, does it matter? If you like Vista, you'll want to run the final release anyway.

All of the reviews I've read say the 64-bit version is way more buggy than the 32-bit version. This can be blamed on MS or hardware drivers not being fully developed, but either way, I'd play with the 32-bit version for now.
 
Microsoft software NEVER needs license keys. Just type in random numbers and letters and it should work fine until 14 days are up 🙂

After that, you need a license or it stops working. I don't think you can get them from MS anymore. They were given to anyone who signed up for the betas. If someone who betad is nice they'll give you one. Otherwise you'll have to wait till the retail version.

Do I have to uninstall XP before I install Vista? Will this RC2 come with the drivers that I need, or should I go to all 3rd party websites and try to download Vista drivers for each of my components?

If you don't activate in 30 days it will go into the new limited mode, and it is very limited no features, work, mce....the key is free if you get a passport account. I would be running RC1 if the hdtv support worked correctly, here's hoping RC2 fixed this.

I'd be very cautious about uninstalling your version of XP for this beta software. It's perfect for a second computer, but I'd be worried you'd have trouble getting Microsoft to reactivate your copy of XP should you decide to go back (and I suspect you will as this software will expire in the middle of 2007).

Nonetheless, hot deal! I've got my copy downloading now.
