No prob, I don't have to wait for anything since I have it already and I can draw my own conclusions when it comes to a bunch of hotfixes.

I am also not "blaming" you or anyone else for anything, all I did was say that some people don't mind taking a "risk" and running a beta of a patch, and by merely pointing out that there is one, they are by no means implying YOU should run it too.

I agree with one thing , way to many unconstructive comments.

If you are going to post that you won't be installing atleast post your reason y as well.

Reveiwing the thread it appears to me that everyone who said there weren't going to install it did post there reasons.

Anyway, can I just ask the "official" guys to give us a heads up when the two hotfixes are available through WU? I want to know when they are available, to be able to ascertain if WU will see them as installed already or not.

Thanks.

What he meant is would someone post when they see it on WU so he can see if he sees it as well. And you work for MS and your pushing people to install beta patches eh? Which group are you with?

I agree most people will want this patch as soon as they can get it, the primary issue is no-one can answer if this is the same bits that will be sent out by WU or not. As such, there is a chance some users could wind up in a strange configuration by installing this, worst case is the patch would come out, not be identical but also not get pushed to these users machines.

Anyone suggesting anyone install this now without making it clear it's basically beta testing is doing a disservice to the other users. If someone on the MS side can verify the bits are the same, then its' the same as installing an early fix, no big deal. But until such time don't be surprised by others wanting to show some caution.

Well , forgive me for my intrusive nature I should have made my position more clear.

I believe the update process has improved greatly in the last couple of years. If you have seen what the redmond center has been doing lately you would agree with me.

When was the last time A "Performance And Reliability" "Update" was released ?

It is true and should be made clear , And i completely agree with you on that.

THIS IS A BETA patch (or at least an RC) yes lets make that clear .

However with the multitude of people suffering from a completely "unusable/unbarring" 64BIT VISTA platform I would also be doing a disservice if I didn't.

I also would LIKE to think you of all people bsobel would agree .

BTW: just because I drink the milk doesn't mean i intend to buy the cow ;)

I am probably going to be chastised for saying so , but not every MS employee necessarily likes it here.

Actual date, dunno, but they are released fairly often. This one just has a good number of fixes in it that some people where waiting for.

THIS IS A BETA patch (or at least an RC) yes lets make that clear .

Pefect, as long as people know that they can decide what to do with it properly.

However with the multitude of people suffering from a completely "unusable/unbarring" 64BIT VISTA platform I would also be doing a disservice if I didn't.

Not sure I agree with the unusable part, the vast majority of folks here running V64 are running it without problems. Will this fix a couple of annoying bugs (like the copy time estimation one), yes apparently so. Is V64 unusable without it, not in any real way.

I also would LIKE to think you of all people bsobel would agree .

I wouldnt push our beta code on anyone unless they new it was beta as well, that was my only issue with the thread. It was suggested this was more of a leaked version of the final bits, but no-one can confirm this.

Well I must Thank you at least for your insight , It is greatly known and loved.

I personally wouldn't call it a "leaked" version , but oh well. ....,
Where not pressing on anyone outside of the download network it would voide there warrantie(s) if they install it , as it is available with a direct link threw WGA and the link has been given access to everyone on MSDN as well as Connect . (MicroSoft's Bug posting system) . As well as everyone in house.

That at this point probably makes up a couple thousand people , who are trained with installing and battle testing updates. Not to mention all the end users outside of connect who have tried it and gained success.

I was also only trying to advocate the fact this is a unorthodox patch with regards to the way it was released.

Back to weather or not it will pop up on WU ...

From what I have been hearing today this will NOT show up on WU ON TUESDAY this will be released first as A public beta. Seems like we all spooked the cat :)

One note to all, if you install this please take a restore point snapshot before hand, this way when the final bits come out (if they are different) you can system restore back to 'now' and then install the final bits.

Still doesn't fix the slow USB transfer problem though. Over 5 minutes to transfer to my PSP (USB 2.0)

sigh

Just a note to anyone that has installed this it checks show super hidden files back off if you have that box unchecked. , I will ask the mod to either put that in the first post or create a new one with after affects.

This happens automatically, unless of course you were silly enough to turn off system restore.

Good advice though.

The two hotfixes are clearly marked in the list of the updates, so one can remove them this way too, without going back to the system restore.

However I've been stress testing the machine for 2 days now and no problems with the patches.

Sure, but there is no way I'll remember that :)

Now if one of you guys points it out in the thread, I get a nice little email telling me to check the thread and I definitely get to see it ;)
