Please note: These fixes break all current methods of bypassing driver singing requirements except the good old F8 during boot (that you have to do every single time you start vista)

IF you are using Rivatuner, atitool and or Peerguardian on 64bit vista, you will have to use F8 every single time to disable driver signing requirements to use those two programs. x86 version is unaffected.

These updates should go official on the next patch Tuesday (in one weeks time). Please read more for the download links and information on these updates.

Yeah I don't really have any major problems with my Vista install. I'll hold out and wait for this update to be dished out through WU.

Whatever, wait if you want to, I've installed it and the machine is a lot snappier, not to mention that the silly "calculating time remaining" bug is finally gone.

Great stuff, thanks to the OP.

That won't work in my Vista install since mine is in Spanish, so I might as well wait for the official release :)

Sure, I can understand that. I for one am not worried to install this, I remember running the beta of SP2 for a long while before it came out with no problems, and this is far from a beta.

I'll wait for the WU to release it for my X64. Sounds great though, transferrring backups from my laptop, I know that darn copying bug.

Is this any where near Vista SP1? Maby just Vista SP1/2?

You can read about this fix at ....

http://technet.microsoft.com/e...owsvista/aa905071.aspx

And

For those of you who are dead set on not installing these until Tuesday try and at least give them a chance and read up about em. :)

I was also dead set on not installing them till they are officially released ,
However you need to keep in mind one thing , microsoft is getting better at the patch game not worse. And much like procreation they keep getting better and better and better etc etc etc :)

So there is hope here with these patches.

Especially for those of us with 64BIT systems.

My office has 30 64 Bit systems half are running XP the other half just uped to VISTA Ultimate , and come tomorrow I plan on installing this on all 15 of em!

Just one question - when these are officially released, what will Automatic Update do on the machines which were patched using this beta version? Will it overwrite them, or see them as already installed?

VladMM ,

WU probably will take over seeing these are MUS files and I think they will probably be released as a "compilation" fix.

However going the other way here ,.... they might not considering the fact they have to do with performance and driver updates.

I guess it will depend on how many (if any) changes they need to make last minute.

And from what I have been hearing on TechNet I can't tell at this point.

I can only hope that this will be the final candidate. , Seeing how every MSDN user and EVERY user of microsoft's connect site has access to these files.

These may very well be the final candidates.

Who knows ? Any bets ?

Thanks, but what I actually meant is, let's assume that these make it to WU, in the rollup form. Also suppose that they bump up the version to indicate that it is the final release.

Now, I check WU - will it tell me there are no new updates for my system (cos I installed the beta) or will it pull the final version and install?

No offence but I rather get the official version nextweek,as I have already stated waiting a week is no big deal,if you want to install them now then do so at your own risk, remember we don't even know if the official ones nextweek will be exactly the same or what changes if any are made.

Why should I install it now? I am satisfied with the way my Vista machine runs. A week is nothing..

To the last 3 posters ....

Well i installed em , I'd say maybe a 10 - 15% increase in performance .

Opening system folders and overall disk access is a tad more snapier.

I'm not a gamer or a benchmarker so idunno bout that , but i have to say this was a plus to install :)

Hey , i'll take it :)

Sorry VladMM , you impose a good question tho , for what it's worth .

If I had to guess tho I would have to say no , WU will not prompt you on this one.

What's the big deal - no one is forcing you to install them. The OP made a post informing people, not asking you to install it. If you want to wait, great, your choice, but what's the point of posting things like "Why should I install it"

Well, it never hurts to have a discussion about the possible effects of installing updates prior to release. Let's say that SP1 leaks out two weeks early in a few months. I'd have a lot of questions about installing it, similar to the questions being asked in here. It's better than just wondering.

It is looking very promising with all these reports of greatly improved performance and compatibility. But there will always be the purists among us; even though we know it probably won't harm us, we prefer to do things the 'official' way.

I'm all for debate and questions. I've even asked some in this thread.

But the people I am reffering to are not asking any questions, they are going "No way, I'm not installing this, ecverything is fine etc etc"

That's not a discussion, and not constructive.

You want a proper discussion?...then wait until we install the official version nextweek, you can't blame us for not wanting to install them right now, bottomline is 99.99% of users here can wait until nextweek,it's not like your Vista will explode by then.
