Very, very interesting! I knew it was coming, but didn't know it was out today.

I just finished downloading the Office 2007 beta 2 today, and was hoping to get Vista beta 2 soon so I could install both together. Are there any speculations and/or official statements concerning approximately what part of June we'll see Vista beta 2 availability for the general public?

BTW, any idea how many activations are allowed on the beta of Office? In other words, can I install it now on XP x64 and then again later on Vista on the same system?

Vista Beta 2, Longhorn Server 2, and Office 2007 beta 2 are all available on MSDN. Downloading Office and Longhorn as we speak. Also just finished burning the Vista DVD.

At the TS2 quarterly presentation, MS is covering the latest Vista and Office 2007 features. I have to say that I'm looking forward to Vista's problem troubleshooting capability. There's a report that shows the cumulative error rate on the individual's system compared to any information tabs like "Foo.exe was installed on this date". That should make it a lot easier to find the source of problems.

And Office 2007 DOES have some kewl features.

It's kinda' like the invention of the "wheel mouse" in '97. Just when you think that every useful device has been invented, somebody comes out with something new that you HAVE to have. I curse every time I sit at somebody's desktop and they don't have a wheel on their mouse. Arrrgh!

Ok who is running it and what do you think of it? I am trying to decide whether to make my main workstation at home vista beta 2. It has xp on it now and if i don't put vista beta 2 i will have to reinstall xp on it anyways. Ok what do you guys think of vista beta 2? How slow is it? Does it have a ton of bugs? Had any compatability problems? Anyone ran visual studio 2005 on it? Any problems with that?

The Windows Vista Beta is not yet available. The Beta Experience newsletter will inform you about the availability of the Windows Vista Beta.

Damn, i guess that means they're staggering the beta out?

Jeebus christ, beta2 eats up almost 550megs of memory after install. XP uses only 200 megs and thats with a bunch of additional stuff running in the background.
MS should change the min specs to more like 1 gig then 512megs.

Anyone know how to disable this user account control, its sooo annoying.

Got it working now, it seems unimpressive. The user prompts are incredibly annoying... I thought OSX prompted me a lot but this is ridiculous. It seems to be like a $30 upgrade to win XP. I'm dissapointed as hell, I really wanted them to use some of the better aspects of OSX (even if that is 'stealing' who cares, it's not like they're patented items).

The whole OS seems like 5 different ones all slammed together into one odd conglomeration. The menus aren't uniform, the different control pannels and applets aren't uniform, and the sidebar is a joke. Even the calculator 'gadget' is horribly designed and unintuitive. Getting to the properties page of the Gadgets is unintuitive, and they load outside of the sidebar (wtf is with that). Why can't I change the text size of the sticky note gadget?

"Meh" sums it up. :(

All I can say is WOW! The GUI is phenomenal the Aero glass them is so slick. I also love the windows sidebar and the all the cool gadgets. I just know there will be some awesome plugins in the future. Best of all is Vista includes MEDIA CENTER! I was just so impressed when it first booted up. Ignore the nay sayers, no one ever wants to say anything good about microsoft, it helps one justify why the didn't pay for any of the MS software to begin with. Once you go vista I gurantee you won't use XP again.

I wasn't trying to justify piracy. The OS has some severe problems which I hope will be corrected by RTM. I read elsewhere that Vista is now 'feature complete' and that they're focusing on bugfixes, which would be a big dissapointment. (Well, bugfixes are great but I would like to see some more things added).

Got Office 2007 installed and it looks tight. If Vista is anywhere as good looking, it should be nice.

Funny though, I can't get the activation to work for Office. Everyone else having the same problem??
