It will be offered as downloadable ISOs, right? Or do we have to wait for them to mail a disk?

Should be a download.

Ignore the nay sayers, no one ever wants to say anything good about microsoft, it helps one justify why the didn't pay for any of the MS software to begin with. Once you go vista I gurantee you won't use XP again.

I didnt know microsoft used aeg style viral marketing...

Yeah that did come off as being overwhelmingly positive, but I'd give a forum poster the benefit of the doubt. I hated it at first (as you can read earlier in the thread) but I like it more now, especially tied with office 2007.

No idea about WoW, but I suppose that Solitaire probably works ok...

;)

I guess it was wishful thinking to expect that MS would release it to the general public today. Oh well, gives me time to order a DVD-R DL to burn the extremely massive 64 bit version. :(

Yep, that's Vista in a nutshell.

Here's a good read on new features introduced in Vista. For those who're quick to point out that these cosmetic features look like from Mac OS X and Linux, that's fine. I guess it's damned if MS does and damned if MS doesn't.

So it seems much more than just visual appearance. Yes, I was hoping I would be in awe and shock too. But exactly what makes an OS "amazing"? I'm hoping it runs faster though. The performance is terrible compared to Windows XP. But once Aero is turned off, it's pretty snappy.

That's strange because Aero is less cpu intensive than the pure software rendered 2d GUI, there's no 2d acceleration in Vista. Maybe you just need to turn off the animations to make it snappier?

What kinda graphics card are you using? Aero depends more on the performance of the graphics card. Just like OSX.

Heh, I never could get Vista to actually install on an of my systems, despite multiple burn attempts, 32 and 64 bit. It hangs up right after the B&W Loading Files screen. On 2 different systems, 4 different DVD ROMs, and 6 burn attempts . . .

You do realize that you look foolish continuing to post this FUD right?

Yes the GUI looks differant, but there is a lot more to it than that (a lot of it you wont even see until developers start to take advantage of it). This is every bit as big of a change as Windows 2000 was to NT 4. Of course it's evolutionary (they cant break backwards compatibility or they'd loose a lot of their business); it's a very big evolutionary step forward.

Video card performance and driver issues are the first thing that came to my mind also. Assuming your hardware supports it Aero should be just as "snappy" as classic, if it isnt bug it.

BTW Beta 2 (5384) is a pretty old build now; problems with it should still be bugged however a lot of them have already been fixed.
