depends on the program. If you're in science, most programs pay you to be in grad school....considering that it's essentially an 60+ hour/week "job" and that you'll be making crap for the rest of your life anyways

walk up and down university avenue and the university village area. many restaurants, some trendy, some small.

To clarify, I'm a prospective phd student with their ICME program (hence grad school in the OP), and Stanford is giving me money to go and visit for 2 days/2 nights.

Tamarine is pretty good. Just walk up and down University Ave like freesia39 suggested. There's also a pretty good crepe place on one of the side streets.. can't remember the name/street but it had something Bistro in it I think. There's also a tapas place that's pretty good. Wish I remembered names.
