depends on the program. If you're in science, most programs pay you to be in grad school....considering that it's essentially an 60+ hour/week "job" and that you'll be making crap for the rest of your life anyways :(

Excellent, so when I go to grad school for electrical engineering or computer science, I'll be paid to do so?

Cool, good advice most of you ;) I'll look into the Caltrain and also read up on yelp.com. Woot.

To clarify, I'm a prospective phd student with their ICME program (hence grad school in the OP), and Stanford is giving me money to go and visit for 2 days/2 nights.

Tamarine is pretty good. Just walk up and down University Ave like freesia39 suggested. There's also a pretty good crepe place on one of the side streets.. can't remember the name/street but it had something Bistro in it I think. There's also a tapas place that's pretty good. Wish I remembered names.
