sacramento sucks, literally

an AT meet would probably more fun then anything else around here. trying to stay in the city and have fun is... very hard. of course i'v only been here a couple months, but i'v yet to come across anything worth while.

I grew up in the Bay Area and worked in SF for a while and nobody I know goes to SF much. I guess you could do the touristy stuff like visit Golden Gate Park and Ghirardelli Square and ride a cable car, but, other than that, it's just noisy and smelly. And Berkeley? LOL. Why, to play hopscotch over some passed out hippies? For music? I think the Sac music scene is better than the Berkeley one.

And, yeah, Rancho isn't that bad....it's just that they have a couple of those nudie clubs right along the freeway with big signs.

Hey, I work at Rancho Cordova! :)

There are a couple "gentlemen's clubs" in the area, actually, a mile or two from where I work. The area is growing commercially, with office buildings right off the highway. Can anyone host a netmeet, or we can have it at the OP's hotel room. ;)

I would be willing to host a netmeet during the time I'm up there but first I have to figure out which hotel I'm staying at. Thank god I have seperate rooms from my other coworkers.

i guess i dont really need to chime in, but yeah...sac sucks. please dont let it influence your opinion of cali as a whole if this is the first place you have been to.

i grew up in sac...i lived there for 18 years. I really dont miss it and if my mom and some friends didnt still live there I would never go back.

That's my predicament. I'm forced to visit Sacto, b/c my folks live up there. The commute up there is getting really bad, especially during holidays.

With its fast paced growth, Sacto will be another LA--one huge valley super sprawl with a vapid city culture.

if you like Japanese food, go check out Mikuni's in downtown Sac.

Other than that, if it's your first time in CA, spend your time in SF and get a better impression of CA.

C'mon, where's the Davis people? It's only a 30min drive! Plus we can trash Dracos' hotel room. ;)

I used to work there when it was small and had more of a mom and pop feel to it. Their food is still excellent and much better than any other Japanese Restaurant, but not as good. I don't know if the chef still works there, but ask for Sano...he's a true artist.

Well, all I know is the area I spend my time in....Fair Oaks, Gold River, Rocklin, Mid Town...is pretty freakin sweet. Not flat either....Fair Oaks is on the hilly bluffs above the American River and is blanketed with trees.

I used to live in Sacramento but then moved East into Amador County. That's some beautiful country up there. Don't pay attention to the people who say it's flat and boring. Sacramento is pretty spread out and doesn't have the big city feel a la San Fran, but there are some really beautiful places.

As for something to do, perhaps you could go river rafting down the American River if it's warm enough? That's always a fun trip.

Alright well here is the deal....I know what hotel I'll be staying in but I'm not gonna annouce it in this thread ;). So we need to get a email distro list or something going. Me and my coworkers will be there Sun-Sat of next week so I'm thinking either Tues or Thurs for the netmeet. Try not to trash my room too much ;). Just email me or PM me your info if your going and I'll get back with you.

Now back to Sacramento, my coworker just came back from there 2 weeks ago and he said that he enjoyed old Sac but he is a native of Dubuque so lil things will excite him ;). I do plan to check out SFO mostly because my uncle lives down there....

There's a pool hall called Blue Cues in downtown that is frequented by some. Even saw Peja (Kings) there.
