I've been looking around at video cards (again) and I found this at the local CompUSA. The tag on the shelf below the box says clearance. I was thinking about getting a 9600 XT when they come out but this is hard to ignore. Is there any reason not to snap 1 of these up? Anyone have any experience with non-ATI branded cards?

take it, the card is still head to head with the new xt, and it is $70 cheaper. Which compusa did you see this at btw?

Little Rock, Arkansas. Can I use the ATI drivers or am I stuck with the Visiontek drivers?

You can use ati drivers. And I'd suggest you scoop this up quick before somebody else does.

What are you still doing here? Buy it now! :) You're getting the fastest mainstream card at a budget price, and Visiontek offers a lifetime warranty on their cards. Nice find. Visiontek is an ATi-certified vendor, so any ATi driver should work with your card.

Buy the card. You won't find a better card right now B&M in terms of price/performance. In fact you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal online for a new RETAIL card. Do it, do it, do it!

If you don't want it I'll pay you $150 to get the card and send it to me. That said BUY IT NOW! Plus VisionTek has a lifetime warranty on their cards.

Hell, I don't need it, but at that price, I might pick one up just to replace the 128mb R8500 in my backup. I'll stop by my local CompUSA to see if they have any on the shelf.

just too bad that I wasn't even in your country, otherwise, I will simply buy it w/o further thinking of future XT or not at $129

WOOT!!! I GOT IT FOR $129.95!!!!

I stopped by the CompUSA (Boston, MA) after work and saw that they had **ONE** on the shelf. It was still marked at $219.95 so I asked the salesperson to check the price. Told him that I heard it was on clearance.

It looks like the price on clearance items is really a discretionary decision between stores and it's not something that's generally told to everyone, even if they work there. Anyway, I told him I heard the price reported was $129.95. He asked his boss if it was OK to let me have it for that price and the guy said SURE. In fact, he told me to go ahead and grab FIVE games out of the bargain bin for FREE. Sure, these were older, junker games like 3d Deer Hunter, Star Wars StarFighter, Serious Sam, etc., but whose to complain if they're FREE?

Bottomline, if you have a CompUSA near you and you want this card, RUN (don't walk) to the store tonight! And don't forget to be polite and ask for the price reduction if the clerk doesn't know what you're talking about.

Now what to do with this card :D I really didn't need it, but at this price, I just couldn't resist. :D

I bought one of these about 6 weeks ago at my local Compusa B&M. Same deal for $129.00. Can not beat the price. Card works great. It's sure an improvement over my GF4 MX440. I haven't overclocked it yet. I need to borrow a PCI card, in case something goes wrong with the overclocking. Although, I heard with the Omega drivers, you don't need to flash the BIOS (is that true?????). Online BF1942 runs great, can't wait for HL2. Anyway, I suggest you buy one before they are sold out. My local store didn't give me any problems whatsoever.
