I've never lost a rebate to New Rochelle, but I do follow some guidelines - for EVERY rebate I send in. Since this is the NOTORIOUS New Rochelle center, this advice might be good for newbies.
When a rebate is .01-19.99, I take my chances. I can live if it doesn't come.
When a rebate is $20-49.99, I go with Delivery Confirmation, or Registered Mail. Something to track that it WAS, in fact, delivered. Adds a buck or so onto the cost of a stamp.
When a rebate is $50+, I slap on a return receipt requested postcard. The 3-4 bucks is WELL worth getting the entire rebate back. This is a postcard SIGNED at the rebate center by an actual human being that is dated and sent back to you CONFIRMING the rebate was received. No more "we never got it" excuses. However, the cost restricts me to only use it on rebates OVER 50 dollars. Putting a RRR on a 15 dollar rebate kinda defeats the purpose of a rebate.
Of course, with EVERY rebate, always make copies and follow the directions to a tee. New Rochelle has an uncanny tendency to smell out rebates where 1) the person didn't cover their ass, or 2) didn't FULLY follow directions.
Sometimes, you have to spend money to make sure you make money. It sucks, but I call it "dumbass" insurance. If they decide to be dumbasses, I have insurance

The only downside to the deal is that you need to visit your nice postal employees to get these nice things put on your envelope - it's not a DIY thing.
If I already wasn't happy with my 9700 Pro, I'd be over this like stink on...
Also keep in mind the 9900 Pro is due in September - the R360 - but even that's not going to be incredibly "worth" it as it's just a rerigged 9800 Pro core, which in itself was just a rerigged 9700 Pro core...
Wait for the R400/NV40s if you can! I know I am - I'm asking for gift cards instead of "presents" this year. Cold hard cash ain't bad, either.
