They're tellin' me that it's outta stock from the Clevland Warehouse. So if any of you are in the Mid-West...I'd check your order status. :disgust: I've heard that "life's not fair" but the simple fact is...ppl on the West coast (primarliy from what the users details are telling me) are all getting theirs b/c Staples has stock "over there." Meanwhile, I ordered mine on Fri. and they just say..."yeah...sorry, I guess our website stock feature is a little out of whack..." What kind of line is that? (apparently enough to get me off of the line!) I don't know what to do accept sit and wait and hope that they get it in! 😀 Anyone got any other ideas? I really need a scanner b/c I don't have access to a copier to do all of my rebate copies to cover myself 🙂

God Bless

This is screwed up... they're shipping my scanner to Colorado from Canada... lol... as long as I get it 🙂

PaperPort 7.0 works under W NT/2K for the Administrator user. So it should work under WXP as well.

I suspect the same might be the case for PaperPort 6.0, that comes w/ Visioneer scanners.

PaperPort 8.0 works for all users (each user gets their own "PaperPort Documents") folder within their "My Documents" folder. I believe PaperPort 8.0 is WXP logo compliant.

I'd suggest trying to use PaperPort 6.0 under your current OS, and if you like it, upgrade to v 8.0.

I don't use it all the time, but it's an invaluable program to have to digitally manage documents. The "paper-less office" is officially a dead concept, but software like PaperPort actually fulfills on the promise of keeping your paperwork organized.

Most importantly for us, it's great for keeping duplicates of rebate submission documents. 😉

If you need OCR software, PC Magazine recommends Abby FineReader over OmniPage Pro 11.

I went into a Staple yesterday. There were four guys standing in front of the scanners section. The Visioneer 8100 was not shown on the shelf so I tried to look for a staff to ask. Then a guy in the red t-shirt came over, and told the four guys that the Visioneer 8100 was OOS!!

Fortunately I ordered online and scored one already!! 🙂

Saw on the FW board that there's going to be a $80 rebate on the scanner on President's day from Staples! Maybe it turnes out to e a better deal if you can't get it this week? Too bad mine is being delivered today...
Think we can get an adjustment (return and repurchase)?

good luck to the east coasters that are looking for one

Ordered 2/2 pm and received today with paper port ver 6.0.

I suspect those of you getting ver. 7. paperport have a return since opened software has to be returned to factory or destoryed! So they just order a new disk and dust it off.. 🙂

Now I'm going to install on xp and if all goes well I'll keep, however one glitch and someone out there will get one later cause this sucker is going back.

JJ looks good so far of course everyone has an opinion.

I installed paperport first as this was most concern. Copied entire cd to folder on hard drive then opened paperport folder and deleted contents of drivers "8100" and replaced with updated. Then clicked paperport folder and deleted scanners config settings 2 kb. next clicked main folder and 2click start 32 this installs paperport. Sometimes the driver you inserted will not go so just do a manual thing. Turn off plug in restart and forget the auto install stuff. Now no one can follow a manual install from someone like me however it can be done if you think and have some puter "x"perience.

You will get an error upon paperport exe which states this is not compatible with xp however I know not of the problem yet "form typer"and details does show a fix with the temp folder <later> looks like it will run ok. heard some horror stories from pp ver.8.0

Got To Go For Now

I'd like to hear more about this potential $80 rebate that's supposed to be coming out for the Scanner on Presidents day! 😀 THAT would ROCK! 😀

[drama_story_from_Staples_phone_call]
I called the Staples center @ 1800Staples and asked them to help me out (assuring them that I've used staples a lot and have been VERY happy with their service). The nice lady told me that she tried ordering from all of the warehouses in the nation and none of them had any in stock.

Furthermore she gave me some line about how the $20 coupon had been

<< credited to my VISA card >>

, and that I needn't worry about it. So, I'm left wondering, how is that "credited" to my VISA card again? It's a coupon...probably not worth 1/10 of a cent! (as usual) 😀

Finally, she informed me that I would still be able to use the rebate regardless of when the item shipped b/c I placed (rather re-placed w/ her) the order today Feb.6th, a date within the Rebate period. anyone have any input on the veracity of this statement

If anyone would be willing to pick up one and then sell it to me for a little more than waht they paid i'd be greatly appreciated since there are no staples in the buffalo area and they are out of stock near my parents house in albany

pm me if anyone can help

I was going to buy this online, so I put it in my shopping cart, and went to bed, I was going to order it the next morning, but to my surprise, they were OOS.

So I called there customer Service number and talked to a really nice women. She said my local Staples had it in stock. So I told her that I had a coupon that was the $20 off $100. She said to just tell the in-store employee that I was able to use the coupon code there since they were OOS on the website.

So I called the Staples and told them that I tried to order the scanner online and that it was all sold out. And I also told him what the lady had told me(about the coupon code) and he said no problem. He then asked if I wanted him to put one on hold for him, and of course I said "yes" and got his name. Then I went down there, and a different CSR helped me, and I explained my situation all over again. He said no problem. He asked me the code and how much it was for, and stuck a blank paper in the printer, and off I was with my new scanner!

I asked him if I could tell him a different amount for the coupon code, but he said that the register checks there system to verify the code.

So, basically, just go into your local B&M Staples and tell them the same thing that I did, and I am sure they will allow it.

I will SCAN my receipt on my NEW scanner for anybody that needs it. Just eMail me at eMail link

Good luck!

I got one at a Mesa, AZ store today (Alma School & Southern) and used the $20 coupon. They had at least 8 stacked on the floor.

JJorden,

Thought I would follow up on the xp install of paperport 6. All seemed to work well then after further testing the fact is paperport ver.6 will not work with xp! Some features are there but the unit as a whole can be deemed useless with pp 6 on xp. The scanner will work but I would compare this to buying a new car without wheels. If you have a 98 machine or want to look up a newer copy of the software it's a deal, otherwise junk. This one is going back, some deals should be around the corner with xp software?

Some may have the software working good and I accept that but the fact is this was not made for XP , and Staples knows this also can you say UNLOAD baby!!! LOL

Lucky

PS: I have a hunch some are going to get screeeeeewed on the rebate?????

Lucky Strike, that's exactly what I concluded and posted on this thread earlier, but a number of posts continued to speak of Visioneer's XP compatibility, which it is with its drivers on its website. I pointed out that Scansoft's accompanying software for this model isn't; additionally, I couldn't find a Visioneer product on their current list (as of 5 days ago, anyway) that shipped with their v8.0 which is.

My personal conclusion was to pass on this deal if it was to be used with XP and you wanted the Scansoft/Paperport software which, in my opinion, is superior in functionality to the scanning software that comes in MSFT products as Picture It! pro or XP, alone.

If you just need a scanner, then it's cheap and OK.

I installed the newest driver under Windows 2000. It works fine with button scan and the software came with the product. But sometimes when I tried to scan within Paint Shop 7, I got a message of could not communicate with scanner. It did not happen all the time. Sometime works and sometime not. Could anybody tell me what might cause the problem?

Just picked mine up B&M in Raleigh, NC - $99 pricematched to $59.58 with tax. Hope the rebate works if so they owe me $10.42 🙂

I'm very surprised that everyone in the Midwest is having so much trouble getting their scanner. I live in Valley View, OH (Cleveland suburb), and I got my scanner 4 days ago even though it wasn't slated to arrive until the 8th. Don't know where they sent it from, though.
