For those interested, I received my $70 rebate check yesterday. It came as a check with a first class stamp on it. In others words, it was just a flimsy piece of paper, and looked like a check with postage on it.

It doesn't come in an envelope......kinda looks like junk mail, so be careful.

I think this is the trend. Make the checks "look" like unsolicited mail so we will toss it. Receive a GE rebate for a washer and it was the same thing.

as far as im concerned, all my staples rebates are of this kind. I never toss mail before flippin thru it tho, even junk mail, its fun to see what people come up with. anyway, if you throw away half your mail and not look at it, who knows what you've missed? I mean look how you almost threw a check for $70 away...

Just wanted to follow up and say I got my check too. I bought my scanner on 2/2 and got the rebate exactly 1 month later. Pretty good time.

<< ddjkdg-

if your using winders xp, see if you can use sp to scan. if you dont know how, just go to controll panel, then imaging devices, and rightclick the scanner. you can select scan, then go through the onscreen instructions. it may also be in the mycomputer window.

that should work if its the paperport that is causing the problem.

another thing, try to hook the scanner directly into the computer if you are using a hub. hubs suck. the whole usb everything sucks. but anyway, try that.

My 8100 works just fine through my hub. Mine are powered hubs though. I've never had a problem with USB devices being run through hubs in WinXP. I have 2 USB ports, each with a 4-port hub hanging on them. And from those I have a scanner, printer, webcam, mouse, memory card reader and Sony Clie PDA cradle. No problems.

Has anyone received or been approved for buying the scanner twice? That is both the $70.00 and $80.00 rebates.

I guess I'll be returning this scanner too. Second one with the same problem. For all I know it could be my setup and not the scanner but I honestly don't think so, the scanner doesn't sound very happy when it tries to move the head. Not going to really bother troubleshooting it like I did the first one, so I guess I'll just send it back again.

ddjkdg- Look, the chances of you receiving two units that are defective are next to null. Sart over again. Uninstall all your software, open-up your manual, and follow the installation instructions EXACTLY. These drivers can be tricky to install and you must do it the way the manual states.

Also, do you have a digital camera installed on your machine? The scanner and the camera both use twain drivers. You need to go into your scanner software and select the right driver.

So, are you gonna give up and let a silly scanner defeat you? I hope not. You can do this....just take your time and do it right.

It never hurts to ask: Did you unlock it?

I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering: Did you use your new scanner to make a copy of everything you sent to the rebate center.

«I dont even HAVE the box anymore»

Keep all the original packaging until you have the rebate in hand. Find a place in a closet or somewhere to keep the boxes and foam in case you have to take the whole thing back to the store for a refund.

Getreal - Thanks.

grifterspawn - I'd give the reabte center a call. They are usually pretty good. They said I didn't send in a UPC one time. It was a big huge one that I couldn't have forgotten because I had a scan of it stapled to my rebate form. Anyway, they fixed it without requesting more information.

Has anyone resold their scanner? I'm trying to find a box to fit this thing in so I don't have to send it out the same way it arrived to me from Staples. Any ideas?

TIA,

Because...? Why would you not want to use the box it came it? The manufacturer's packaging is always the most secure way to ship equipment. Why wouldn't you just slap a label on the thing and ship it UPS?

Because I'm pretty anal about this sort of thing and don't want the manufacturer's box to get any more damaged than it is right now. It got a little banged up on the way to me and I would hope that it wouldn't get more banged up being shipped to someone else.

I was just wondering what others have been doing that resold their scanners instead of kept them. I'm guessing that I shouldn't worry about double boxing it then and just ship it the same way it was shipped to me from staples?

Ok well on the first scanner I got I (like most new stuff I get) said to hell with instructions and just plugged the thing into my USB port, installed the software, and fired it up. Unlocking it was the first thing I did. No go. So I tried rebooting, diff USB ports and cables, locking and then unlocking, etc. etc. a few more times. Still not working. I finally uninstalled all drivers, programs, etc., and followed the installation instructions exactly. Still nothing. That's when I called to ship it back and ordered another one.

On the second scanner I followed their instructions to the letter. The EXACT same thing happened (albeit with this scanner, the light actually turned on). I would hit scan, it would say on the OneTouch that it was warming up the lamp, and then after about 10 seconds it would start going. Moved about an inch and then stopped. To get the head to reset I would have to unplug all cables then plug in the power, turn off the machine and then back on again. The head would move back but in the process would make a pretty ugly noise. FYI I did install the XP drivers on both of the scanners, and I tried using all methods of scanning. OneTouch buttons, OneTouch monitor, PaperPort, and XPs built-in scanning program. I do not have a digital camera and never have installed anything like one on this machine.

Anyways, I guess I will try to hook up the scanner to my other machine. If it works I'll know there was some conflict or maybe the scanners just didn't like XP.

Also, if you are using the USB port cable, try the parallel port cable.....or the other way around. Try the new drivers first.

Edit: Be sure to power on the scanner before you boot your machine.

hey peeps, I PM'd to Andaratech, and got it for about $73.00 :D The manager said that I should keep it above $70 when she PM'd it so that I could definately get the rebate w/o any hitches. The threw a red flag for me, so I went ahead and had her sign the rebate ;) Anyway, I got the $70.00 rebate, not the $80. I got my notification in the BULK MAIL section of my yahoomail :)
