Ok well on the first scanner I got I (like most new stuff I get) said to hell with instructions and just plugged the thing into my USB port, installed the software, and fired it up. Unlocking it was the first thing I did. No go. So I tried rebooting, diff USB ports and cables, locking and then unlocking, etc. etc. a few more times. Still not working. I finally uninstalled all drivers, programs, etc., and followed the installation instructions exactly. Still nothing. That's when I called to ship it back and ordered another one.
On the second scanner I followed their instructions to the letter. The EXACT same thing happened (albeit with this scanner, the light actually turned on). I would hit scan, it would say on the OneTouch that it was warming up the lamp, and then after about 10 seconds it would start going. Moved about an inch and then stopped. To get the head to reset I would have to unplug all cables then plug in the power, turn off the machine and then back on again. The head would move back but in the process would make a pretty ugly noise. FYI I did install the XP drivers on both of the scanners, and I tried using all methods of scanning. OneTouch buttons, OneTouch monitor, PaperPort, and XPs built-in scanning program. I do not have a digital camera and never have installed anything like one on this machine.
Anyways, I guess I will try to hook up the scanner to my other machine. If it works I'll know there was some conflict or maybe the scanners just didn't like XP.
