Actually ...

American Anko (of vibrating mouse fame/shame) did in fact refuse a bunch of rebates when people used coupons to buy the mouse (already free after rebate) at Amazon earlier this year. I was one of those rejected, but I was able to get the rebate through by sending an e-mail stating that the coupon was actually applied to one of the other items in my order (sounds stupid, but that's what they asked me to send).

However, I think that Staples (unlike Amazon) is more likely to back up their rebates with their own cash to preserve their customer relationship. Make sure you save a copy of everything and keep an eye on RebatesHQ.com

Dongky, did you try contacting the rebate center about your soundblaster rebate? If they were of no help, I'd go straight to your nearest store and 'splain the situation. With enough perserverance, the money should be yours eventually.

I have a Canon 630U. Can anyone tell me if I should upgrade to this. My first scanner was a very good Visioneer 3000 but the last one a 7000 something a while back was a piece of crap. This seems like a good deal and I scan alot (hate the Canon scanning interface) and the Canon always scanned subpar versus my 3000.

Ordered mine this morning and everything looks OK. Shows processing and delivery for Monday in the Dallas area. I went with TurboTax to bump over $100 because everyone is selling it for the same price around here as far as I could tell.

Quote from rebate page "Offer not valid with any other rebates, offers or promotions." - I see no mention of coupons or coupon codes. You all need to relax.

Just got mine, (which was ordered yesterday 1/31/2002)

It came with both a USB cable and a Parallel cable!! Works like a charm in XP (after downloading the latest drivers from their site).

Called amex, and they PM to the $59.99 price mentioned earlier. I now have a $20 check coming from Amex and a $70 rebate from staples. which makes my total purchase price (including tax) -$6.01 yes! that's negative $6.01. It's not everyday you get paid to take something (legally) :)

I hope this works out for everyone else in the anand family!

I got mine at a b&M store today. Price match the one from the link above (1st page of posts) for 59.95 at Andara. The s.o.b. store manager wouldn't give me a full pm. She charged an extra $5 to cover Andara's s/h charge, so she let me have it at $64.95. Total comes to $68.85 with tax.

With the coupon, am I correct that I will make $1.15!!!

I hope that the $70 rebate still works with the price guarentee policy. If it will not, please somebody post so I can return it.

thanks for the tip!!

Edit... mean the $70 mail in rebate. With the rebate, I will make $1.15.

The "sob" store manager was absolutely correct. If s/h is not stated, they are allowed to add $5 because Staples does not charge s/h and it would not be a fair match. I assume that by "coupon" you mean "rebate". That's not bad, and probably as good as you're going to do without a price matching credit card.

So you're saying that AMEX PM'ed the $99.99 less $20 Staples coupon = $79.99 paid, down to $59.99? But doesn't the charge have to clear your credit card first, or do you just tell them you charged it and send them the proof after the fact so if it doesn't show up on your credit card bill, they just don't pay it?

Also, will AMEX PM 2 of the same item for me? I placed 2 separate orders, a co-worker also wanted one. And didn't they ask if Staples had a PM polcy?

Another co-worker who ordered this and has a Fidelity AMEX with the price guarantee feature called AMEX and was told that he should print out the page from web site that has the lower price and send that in. Meanwhile, this guy almost left for the weekend without placing the order. He has done this before, puts it in the basket on Friday when I tell him about the deal, but then doesn't get around to placing the order until Monday, and is surprised to find that the item he wanted to order is out of stock. Duh.

Just to follow up, I went to Staples B&M, and did a pricematch with the Andara Technologies site, which had it listed at 59.99. The pricematch, brought it down to 64.12 and with tax was 67.33 So if you guys want a pretty good scanner, get this deal, you can't beat makin a profit after rebate!

This issue of using a coupon and rebate on the same item at Staples comes up in every Staples deal thread. Although their policies indicate that you cannot use a coupon with a rebate it's very rare that they actually deny the rebate. Their policies are vague enough to enforce anytime they choose. For example, using this statement "Offer not valid with any other rebates, offers or promotions." gives them the flexability to say that a coupon is an offer or promotion.
They also state the following on their coupon entry page in bold. Since most of us get our coupons from an internet site they can deny our coupon at any time if we do not have proof that we received the coupon directly.

Staples.com reserves the right to reject orders that use a coupon code that was obtained from a bulletin board or other Internet site. Staples.com also reserves the right to reject orders with a coupon code that was transferred from a direct mail recipient or is in violation of any coupon restriction listed above.

Anyway, I think the concern that most people have is that Staples will begin strictly enforcing their rules/policies concerning coupons and rebates and we will not know it until after we get the deal. We will never know when that deal will come, if it ever comes.

I have no idea how they came up with the total. I plainly had on the page I printed out that the total with shipping was $73.33 The guy did some calculations and came up with the total. I was expecting it to be over $70, but was like good deal.

I got it online, with the $20 of $100. dont have an amex blue, but o well, $15 after tax and MIR is not bad for a scanner.

is there a way you can go to a local store and do the pricematch there?

am i right that you can to the Pricematch online?

I got lucky and Staples PM'd the Andara Technology add. They gave me 110% PM. So after the rebate I'll come out (if you include the rebate stamp) costing me -$10.22.

Thanks you guys--AT rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can do it both online and in a local store as well. However, you have better chanced of NOT getting hit with next-day shipping at your local store. So I'd do it there. Just yesterday I PM'ed an LCD monitor from Outpost.com and saved $30 that way.

I'm surprised Staples b&m even pm'd the item. Their pm policy states they take coupons & rebates into consideration.
