Virus Alert

that latest bugbear variant runs if your outlook express shows the preview. i.e. you don't even have to run the file. unless of course you have a relatively recent security patch from microsoft... then you're okay as long as you don't run it.

My company's email server is currently toasted thanks to Bug Bear. Looks like someone in this company was dumb enough to open it or maybe it was someone outside with one of our emails in their address book. Either way, bug bear blows. Our Helpdesk phone is being lit up like a Christmas tree, lol!
 
Bleh, screw my friends.. there the ones sending me virii. The real problem is people sending "cute" emails to each other. These attachments look like another something funny or whatever and get opened.
 
Hah.. looks like someone is trying to get past some bank security. Wonder if he will be successfull in stealing money. At least this one has a purpose.

A report I heard on NPR News, today, says this one does NOT require opening an attachement. Just opening the e-mail to read it will infect your machine.

Of course, it comes from a friend's infected machine, and it has a number of innocuous Subjects and texts, so the best thing to do is update your AV, now. Symantec usually issues their "Live Updates" on Wednesday, but they've had several updatesm this week, including a new one today.

Looks like the person in charge of updating/maintaining Antivirus in your company is dumb enough to fall asleep at the job!
I had some hits yesterday, but I update my AV EVERYDAY on my servers and LAN stations, so I got the alerts even before my users had the chance to open the emails (they are disnfected before they have the chance to open it anyway).
 
So far the only virus that has made any kind of appearance at my workplace is the annakournikova virus, and it looks like someone brought it from home.
 
MY NSW 2002 exired last week and my NSW 2003 is on the way in the mail. MY last update was last week. Since this is a new variation of the original bugbear, will my last weeks definitions catch it? If not, can I use an online scan somewhere that will tell if it got by NSW 2002?

Umm, I think I might be infected. Does this virus create ~10MB .eml files in various folders? Because that's what I've got. Things like "Job cost worksheet" and "personal letter". It's only affecting shared folders. :|

Relatively recent? As in, two years old or newer?
 
Sure sounds like it misterpresident I'd pay a visit to the housecall link above ^ and get some anti virus protection for yourself man jeez. I use and recommend AVG Anti Virus from Grisoft, free download at www.grisoft.com .
 
Thanks for the tip nsafreak. It turned out to be W32.Nimda.A@mm, but I was glad to get rid of it. I'd just reformatted and forgottern AVG. Virus was found in a folder my little sister uses for Kazaa. 😱
