Virtual Network over the internet

Hi guys. I want to make a virtual network over the internet between me and my brother. What program do you recommend? I found one called Hamachi. Any thoughts? Thanks

Hamachi is definately the easiest VPN I know of. I use it on occasion and it works great.

Hamachi is great. I have a friend who likes OpenVPN but it's much more complicated.

OK, I'll try Hamachi, after all it's free (and most of you recommended it)
If I won't like it I have Winsshd as backup.
I'm also interested in playing games over this network.

Maybe creating a VPN incoming connection would safer?

hamachi is the one that I recommend I use it constantly it is easy to set up and encrypts the transitions so security isnt as big of a problem. Gaming over Hamachi is generally easy though some games you will have a problem with. Some games don't like multiple NIC cards and Hamachi installs a virtual NIC to run. Also most game I have found out try to get the Hamachi NIC as the default gaming NIC for network play. The only downside to running hamachi is if you are going to use it to transfer large files like .avi it WILL take a LONG time, there is also the problem of the file dropping halfway thought the transfer, one way I have found around the problem is a shell program called total copy it lets you control how fast you copy files and it also has an auto resume if the file breaks it will pause and take off from where it left off.

Another option is to buy a VPN-enabled router. The Buffalo WHR-G54S goes for $40 shipped online and DD-WRT (an aftermarket firmware with VPN) can easily be installed. You can then setup PPTP or whatever you want to use for VPN (PPTP has a client built into Windows for easy and painless access). I actually just set one of those up at my friend's place this past weekend mainly for VPN use. Details on how to do it are here:
