You know, this sort of thing is just going to put the officers giving the tickets in a HUGE danger of someone fearing a multi-thousand dollar fine and going on a high-speed chase or shooting a cop.

It's quite possibly the most asinine thing I've ever heard of regarding traffic laws and fines.

The only thing this will do is fund more cops and more inventive ways of catching speeders because the state apparently has NOTHING better to do.

Did anyone mention that VA is also one of the last few states to make radar detectors illegal?

If you're not sure you're driving in a school zone or a safety corridor, slow down. Pay attention to road signs. Don't speed excessively. Simple actions that have kept my personal record clean since 1991.

I have never been in an accident either driving 10-15 above the limit or at the limit. Your point is kind of flawed in that it doesn't prove anything but that you've been lucky to not get hit by another driver. No matter how good of a driver you are, someone who is doing their best to follow all traffic laws can still cause an accident. You can still cause a fatal wreck while driving the speed limit or below.

good lord, everyone speeds in VA...due to the relatively low speed limit.

Actually I think we have the dubious distinction of being one of the first. I believe the law was even run all the way up to the Supreme Court where it was determined that Virginia could only make the use of them illegal.

The only thing this will do is fund more cops and more inventive ways of catching speeders because the state apparently has NOTHING better to do.

The money from these new "fees" does not go to the police, they are counting on it to raise cash for road construction.

During its 2007 Session, the General Assembly of Virginia passed House Bill
3202 (Chapter 896), which was designed to provide additional funds to address various
transportation needs in the Commonwealth. (See this link for the bill:
http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bi...1&typ=bil&val=hb3202.) The
legislation requires agencies and branches of state government which implement parts of
the legislation to make accessible to the public information about those efforts.

"Virginia just became the worst state to be an a$$hole driver in" should be your thread topic.

Did anybody not notice that this also applies to...

"Other six-point convictions include "failing to give a proper signal," "passing a school bus" or "driving with an obstructed view." "

So if you are alone on the road and no one is near you and yhou forget your turn signal, bamm several thousand dollars and 6 points. And WTF does "driving with an obstructed view" mean? If I have my hatch full and a cop can;t see in fully? Who determines that?

Also I live in springfield VA and I will not be voting for this turkey that brought this upon VA. Damm lawyer just pushing more business his way.

I would love to see a list of Virginia laws where you are fined much less for crimes that are much worse. I'll bet there are tons of them.

About 15 years ago they were sued for charging different retirement plan tax rates (state versus federal employee) and had to stop that becuase they had to charge the same for everyone. I have a feeling this driving tax may go the same way.

I have a friend moving from Virginia shortly, I bet he is ever so glad he is.

Are these "enforcement zones" marked?

I always thought it was a citizen's right to be able to be aware of the law (written) at all times.

At any rate, this law sucks.

The other option is to do as John Soule suggests, "Go West, young man!"

It's not any better west.

The entire state of Missiouri is a ticket trap like Virginia.

A friend of mine just got ticketed for turning around.

He happened to do the turnaround at the local town cops driveway.

He came running out of the house and ran him down a few miles later and said no one turns in my town and wrote him up for a big $$$ ticket.

Again need the citizenry to revolt against this out of control thuggery taking place.

I found that out the hard way. Damn eagled eyed cop saw mine from an overpass, and gave me a ticket for it, even though I didn't have it on. I hate going though VA.

Why the hell did you resurrect this thread after ~ 6 months just to post a "Wow" reply?
