The Wal-Mart closest to me was okay for about 3 months, but it became intolerable after that. No price tags on the shelves, all the price scanner machines were vandalized, merchandise just laying in the aisles, and terrible, terrible people (both workers and customers). I stopped going years ago, or I drive 30 miles to the one in an all-Asian area.

The Target nearest to me has lasted for about three years in a tolerable state, but it's going downhill as well. Stuff isn't laying in the aisles yet, but the people (both workers and customers) are getting much worse.

I hope they don't implement sales tax onto sites like Amazon. I hate going into stores. 🙁

email corporate telling them this along with pictures to support it.

lol these threads crack me up.

"you are poor if you shop of walmart"
"walmart kills ma and pa stores"

there is one "ma and pa" store. the prices are a LOT higher then walmart. no reason for me to shop at the store. I have no reason to make them money.

I live in between 3 super walmarts. the one i do visit is great. the store is clean, full of college kids, and a just a good store. the one in Rockford is shit. If i need stuff and headed to rockford i make the extra 10 minute drive to woodmans.

There is also a new on in rochelle. it is sopposed to open this summer.

i guess it depends on managment and what type of people that go.

edit: lol forgot the main thing I wanted to say.

Walmart is great for getting boxed food, cheap clothes (my kids are 4 and 8. they outgrow everything so damn fast so i do look for cheap clothes), toys and house hold goods. NO way would i buy meat from it (well the deli yes). teh hamburger never looks good. Last time i got a steak from them it was..nasty.

For fresh veggies i live near 3 farmers markets. One is more of a hippie market though. they jack the prices up really high. the other 2 are on actual farms and you can get some great items very cheap.

for meat i hit one of 2 local butchers. The hamburger is roughly the same price (if you buy in bulk its even cheaper) as walmart. The steak is always good but a little pricey. Also the owner of Headons is very friendly and supports my daughters Girl Scout troop!

I watched a documentary about Wal-Mart, it was taking over the country, with a mind of it's own... :hmm: nm it was South Park.

Does anyone live near a wal mart? I have one soon to be built like a half mile from where I currently live. I'd like to hear the pros and cons from someone with firsthand experience.

WalMart is like sex. No one can really describe it to you. You have to experience it.

I have found that depending to the one you go to and the time you get there YMMV.
I don't to go Walmart often but when I do I usually go to the one in Shrewsbury, PA. That one is very clean and there are never any sketchy people there regardless of the time. However, the one in Aberdeen, MD is an entirely different story but it's still not appalling.

The one near me(<1 mile) opened up a few months ago. It's a super WalMart, and open 24hrs. I like being able to walk to a store. That's kind of a novelty for me. This county is going to hell though, and that WalMart is a symptom of that. Box stores are convenient, but overall their a detriment to this country. You're selling out your heritage, and neighbors one lead contaminated appliance at a time....

Walmart is a half hour commute from me so its not really some place I go often, and If I'm in that part of town I usually got to Costco. That being said its not Walmart I have a problem with its the customers, and the employees. I can never get out of there without some major disaster holding everything up.

I take flyers from other stores and price match at walmart. I make sure I cost them as much profit as possible.
