ViewSonic VG2230wm Black 22" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD

I do not mean to threadcrap, but personally, I'd rather have a 20in that did 1680 x 1050 over a 22in that did the same.

But 22 inch is SWEETER

But the dot pitch is bigger. 😀

Size matters.
I own both 20 (dell) & 22 (v2235) but my vote goes to 22.

Same here, 22 inches or 20? You'd have to be insane to take 20 over 22 with the same features.

That's a weird threadcrap =p

Agreed.

But at the same time, people look at an 8oz Filet Mignon from Ruth's Chris and say "WTF! I can get something twice the size at Sizzler for the same money!"

Thanks a lot for all your help guys. I have Westinghouse 22" and I also like it better then the 20" viewsonic I had. With the viewsonic I had to constantly get my face closer to the screen because I couldnt see some fonts. 22" fixed that and now I can sit back and still able to see. I havent noticed any juggies in games - 1680x1050 is more then enough for 22".

Agreed.
I had both Dell (2005) and my new Viewsonic 2235wm side by side for a day and played games on both.
Well the Dell was sold the next day to a fellow in Connecticut.
The Dell has an edge on color and loses out response time otherwise 2" larger (diagnoally) is way to big to ignore.

Well I took the plunge and went with the VG2230Wm rather than the smaller but "prettier" VX2025WM for about the same cost. I have to admit that one of the driving reasons behind my purchase was the stand that comes with the VG2230, I just didnt care for what was offered on the VX2025WM. I know I could've purchased an after market stand for the VX2025WM but I wasn't a big fan of the styling either. So with the VG2230WM I get a great stand, 2 extra diagonal inches (noticeable step up from my 17" NEC 1760V) and it matches my office theme better. I hoping to hell I'm not going to regret the sacrafice in image quality too much as I'm already accustomed to a less-than-stellar image quality already, but we'll just have to see. For those considering this monitor I'll be sure to offer my opinions on it when it gets here. Till then...

Absolutely agree. Objectively, a 22" screen is 21% larger than a 20" screen (assume 16:10 ratio). That's a pretty significant difference. Subjectively, text is MUCH easier to read on a 22" than a 20" with similar resolution.

You guys are comparing the lowest grade panel (TN) to a higher grade panel (P-MVA).

Of course the 22" is gonna be cheap. Pretty much all 22" lcds are TN's.

The vx2025wm vs vg2230wm isnt just comparing merely inches, but that seems to be what most people are worried about, thus the inflation of garbage TN panels.

Sooner or later there will no longer be S-IPS, or P-MVA panels.

EDIT: I guess its pretty much if you prefer quantity vs quality.

If you set your windows fonts to a larger size (120dpi or 120%) and use cleartype then you will find the text is far clearer on the 20" panel at the same resolution as the 22" panel. Think back to when you used to compare dot pitch on CRTs. Would you prefer a 19" crt with .24 dot pitch, or a 21" crt with .31 dot pitch?

Or maybe how much you care about stuff that 99% of other people do not....

he's learned to accept having less inches in all aspects of life.

Sorry, but I have to say this -

I really hate the huge bezel on this thing. It's because of the speakers...

But then again, it doesn't seem to be that bad of a monitor. 5 ms (although I'm willing to bet it's 12 typical or so) response time isn't bad at all.

As far as a 20" vs. a 22", some people find that the larger screen makes it easier to read fonts. I have to squint every once in a while at this 1680x1050 on this 15.4" laptop screeen... That was a mistake (if I would say so myself); the screen's too small for the resolution.

Note, no HDMI, if you were looking for it.

Edit: Oh, and for those wondering, I think it's a TN panel. 16.2M colors + dithering to get the 16.7. Not sure if that makes a difference to you, as I haven't set a 16.2 and a 16.7 side by side to see the difference.

How are you people saying you'd rather have 20" vs 22"? With the 22" you can put it 10% further from you, reducing eyestrain and increasing comfort... It's not a laptop where a smaller size with the same res is better.

whats the deal with the one they sell at officedepot and officemax, it looks different. It is on sale now for 349 after 50 instant rebate.
