I think the real question is, do we get benchmarks tomorrow? Or just press slides?

I hope someone can do some real meaningful testing rather than just stare at press slides all day long...

Haha, they're almost the same thing. Benchmarks where the settings are tailored to show your card in the best light or press slides where you just say "My GPU is 60% better than the competition!"

No matter what they release tomorrow, we'll probably be disappointed at the information and be back here speculating what real world performance will be like.

I'm going to take a COMPLETE stab in the dark though and say that a 4K demo will be in it tomorrow.

Use Nvidia's Grid technology to stream the games through the console. Nvidia just announced they are going to be making their drivers open source to help with Linux. Something tells me that subtle leak is not a coincidence.

I think it's more likely they are doing it in response to Valve striking a deal with AMD to power their upcoming console, and they are desperately trying to not get left behind.

Their announcements coming on the same day can't be a coincidence can it? My brain would explode if during AMD's press conference gabe newell walked out on stage and asked if he was in the right place for the Valve announcement that was scheduled for today.

I would imagine that AMD is releasing a beefed up version of the PS4 APU for valve, or something with a stronger CPU core and the same GPU power.

Even a confirmation of specs would go a long way. 2816 SPs, 44 ROPs, 4 geometry engines vs. 2 and 512-bit bus is way in excess of almost all reasonable leaked specs up to last week. A lot of us were thinking 2560-2688 SPs, 160-168 TMUs, 32-48 ROPs, 3-4 geometry engines and 384-bit bus. Based on the leaked specs, AMD is matching or exceeding nearly every one of those specs. This is actually a surprise as nearly every generation the specs on forums are overly optimistic vs. the specs of the card that is actually released.

Remember that Nvidia said they were working on something that wasn't a videocard. That's looking like the gabecube more and more imo. :hmm:

It's either their tablet to try and sell unwanted Tegra 4's, or as most people in that thread spoke about their version of occulus rift.

Valve isn't releasing a steam box. They're merely releasing a reference specification that involves an nvidia GPU and an AMD CPU (lol). But companies can use whatever components they want apparently, reference design doesn't have to be adhered to.

Anyone can make it but it must Valve's green light to earn the steam box name. This will be tomorrow's steambox announcement. Also, a friday announcement will be for an upcoming game using the new source engine, presumably left for dead 3.

(this was all leaked on reddit)

That was me actually, I was just messing with /v/. I didn't expect it to blow up, lol.

To add onto what Blackened already mentioned, here is the link to the info he is basing his post on.

lol @ massive thread derail, yet again. Looks like nVidia's marketing team did a superb job already at stealing the spotlight for tomorrow's announcements.

How can we derail an announcement we know nothing about. Everyone is speculating on the announcement. You're the only one who derailed anything.

As for that "leak." I find it hard to believe just because the person typing that stuff is an obvious moron. I highly doubt that the personality typing that crap out would ever even be considered to work at Valve.

Also, let me get this straight, they are using AMD's CPU's so they decided to have an nvidia announcement about their steam box to rain on AMD's parade. Get real.

If this is true then the world is truly full of complete idiots.

Speculation is one thing, but to speculate about a rumored Steam box on a 290X speculation thread is clearly a derailment.

And yes, I realize that my post was not exactly on topic either, but neither were the ones prior to mine. May I suggest the Steam box posts be posted to this thread instead?

I'd be impressed if the leaked specs were wrong and they are more in-line with what you proposed, but the leaked benchmarks were accurate.

I wasn't referring to anyone on the forums. I was referring to whoever at Valve and Nvidia would have planned that, and whoever hired the guy that is writing the supposed leak.

My bad, I honestly forgot which thread this was because of the last 2 pages of posts.

And I'm saying I'm the culprit. I posted that. On /v/. Using my laptop.

Yes, it is fake as hell. Not sure how it made it onto reddit and then Tom's Hardware but I've been laughing like hell all day.

I'm sorry.

Why would you make all that crap up? And then admit it and post it here?

I was riding the hype on Monday and wanted to get /v/ riled up by playing to what they would expect to be the best-case scenario. I never expected it to make it off-site.

I didn't bring it up here. When I saw it, I owned up straight away because I don't want to deceive this forum, where actual relatively meaningful discussion takes place. I see no reason to rile this place up. You're free to think I'm lying of course. Maybe I am. Le master trole, remember? That's me.

Maybe I work for Nvidia or Valve. Or both. :sneaky:

I predict that we will have specs confirmed, useless marketing slides, a tantalising demo and possibly clarification about when review sites' NDAs expire. In other words, this thread will remain largely focused on speculation about true performance.

I've kept an eVGA GeForce GTX 280 (512 Bit/1GB DDR3) 800Mhz card for years and it can still power a PLS (IPS) 2560-1440 display for Web Browsing and watching Movies. A Radeon HD 2600XT AGP with HDMI clobbered the infamous Radeon 9800XT and Riva TNT cards. - so interred the insanely over priced 512 Bit GTX 280.

Today I want either a 384 Bit/6GB or a 512Bit/4GB Card that will beat the GTX 780/Titan at reasonable price and it seems AMD is about to introduce a 512Bit/4GB card that will rival or possibly beat the nVidia card for a much lower price - Gotta say a 512 Bit single GPU card is powerful and better yet with a descent volume of either Samsung or Hynix vRam.

Cheaper 120 Hz 4K PPS 2560x1440 and 2560x1600 PLS(IPS) displays are here and my old GTX 280 does the 1440p justice but not for gaming.

Simply put: nVidia prices for their GTX 780 and Titan are INSANE and trust AMD is about to expose the insanity - PRICE/PERFORMANCE is what it's all about for me - I'm no FanBay but man I believe AMD marketing Hype just might have merit in this case as AMD (ATi) did it in the past.

I'm not fussy about SLI or CF but if this AMD release is not up to expectations I will settle for 2 HD 7950's in CF and wait it out.
