As an Indian I am disgusted by those comments.

I never said that they were like rats. Reading comprehension FTL.

My friend, who is Indian and visited India, said that they were like rats. I left out the fact that he was Indian because I wanted to see what biased idiot would bite. You did.

Well if thats the case I am sorry to hear that your Indian friend has such a low opinion of his people. Regardless your comment that Indian people are primitive has no basis.

My comment certainly does have basis, unless overpopulation, corruption, poverty, and terrible infrastructure have suddenly become the antithesis of a primitive people.

I don't think that the people themselves are incapable of living in sophistication, but for whatever reason they haven't managed their situation properly and have created for themselves a primitive lifestyle.

You know ATOT is devolving into a less sophisticated but equally combative P&N. Think about that.

what does it matter that he's indian? doesn't make it any less of an ignorant statement. i'm assuming he's only 'indian' because his parents are indian. he was prolly born and brought up in the us and couldn't locate new delhi on the map.

Looking at that vid and thinking India as a whole is primitive simply reaffirms to many people looking at this vid that many Americans are indeed that stupid. Neither is correct imo.

Bad comparison. A subway station full of people is much more clear evidence than one girl on TV. Anyway, per Wikipedia:

Overcrowding

Due to its extensive reach across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and its intensive use by the local urban population, overcrowding has grown to be a compelling problem (4,700 passengers are packed into a 9-car rake during peak hours, as against the rated carrying capacity of 1,700). This has resulted in what is known as Super-Dense Crush Load of 14 to 16 standing passengers per square metre of floor space. Trains on the suburban line are on average more than 4 minutes apart, contributing to the problem of overcrowding. The impending introduction of new higher speed rakes may help address the issue.

Fatalities

Yearly more than 3,500 people die on the Mumbai suburban railway track due to overcrowding during peak hours. This is believed to be the highest number of fatalities per year on any urban or suburban railway system. Many of these deaths are caused when passengers cross the tracks on foot, instead of using the footbridges provided for going from one platform to another, and are hit by passing trains. Some passengers die when they sit on train roofs to avoid the crowds and are electrocuted by the overhead electric wires.

91TTZ - You're a smart guy, you know people are going to have an issue with what you say, so why do you continue to make those posts? Arguing what is PC or isn't PC really isn't going to accomplish anything in the end, neither is comparing a race to rats or calling them primitive.

you'd think that having invented the language, you all would at least have some clue what the words mean.

Yea, I am English, although I can't take credit for personally inventing the language...

Distionary.com (not exactly Oxford bit it'll do) provides the following definitions:

1: a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.

2: One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

91TTZ seems to be pretty intolerant of other cultures, but hey, I don't know him and I'm not about to spend my time searching through his post history to find out if I'm right.

How do you use the word?

I don't think you are racist. You are just retarded.

But one of the few things even time cannot change is a retard like you.

Translation: I'm 16-22 and can't control or express my emotions.

Oh...I would've pegged you closer to 25, my bad, sorry.

Wow, did you just pull Pee-Wee Herman's signature "I know you are but what am I?" on me?

I'm thinking I would really like you to become more powerful than I can possibly imagine!

What a moron.

You obviously missed the joke. This has nothing to do with signatures.

 Your problem is that you assume way too much all the time. My comment is a play on your sig. It has nothing to do with your statement about some comic's signature quip. The only commonality is the word 'signature'. They have entirely different meanings. You mistakenly assumed that I was still responding to your nonsensical rambling.

To be honest, you can't use "corruption" as a basis of calling India corrupt. The U.S. isn't exactly the bastion of justice and incorruptibility that we'd all like to believe. If you're calling out India on corruption, then you'd better call the U.S. on the same. For what it's worth, this is coming from an ABCD who loves the U.S.

As far as your other points, I don't believe they're grounds for calling the people "primitive". I think in the minds of most people, primitive implies culturally or mentally backwards. If all the Indians were going around thumping each other on the skull with clubs or eating cow dung, then I'd tend to agree. However, this isn't so much primitive as it is a means of dealing with the poor transportation system and overcrowding. Indians, culturally and mentally, want exactly the same as the people of any other western nation. The kids there want to hang out party just like the rest of us and the adults are trying to make a living with a lot of the same jobs we have. if you want to refer to the INFRASTRUCTURE as primitive, then that's one thing. But don't call an entire race of people primitive just because it's overcrowded and dirty.
