Hope this is right place to ask, if not please move this. I search and search but can't find a definite answer anywhere, so this my last try.

I wonder is it possible to connect a VCR's output (video signal, that yellow cable) to a messenger's webcam (say MSN's webcam)?

So for example, I can send the signal of whatever is playing on my VCR, to my messenger program's video window, so the other party can see the video?

I wonder if it can be done at all, so far it seems it is not possible, because messenger programs need a USB type device to select as camera. I got a Nvidia 7800 video card, and it seems to have video in, but there is no way to connect it to webcam.

BTW I am not trying to pirate TV programs to others, because honestly the video quality on webcam is pretty bad anyway (if I really want to, I could have record the video via my home DVD recorder, and rip it...but that is not what I want to do). I just want to connect a video output (like home video camera) to messenger program's Webcam.

Thanks in advance

This webcam software has the Video Output feature (Windows XP/2000/2003, installation for 98 manually):
(Quote) You can share the program video stream with Skype, an instant messenger (for example, MSN, Yahoo) or other instances of Willing Webcam at the same time. Add text, date and time stamps, watermarks, and various video effects to the output video stream.

So, if you will get a preview image in the program from your VCR, you will get the video stream in a messenger.

This software supports not only USB devices:
(Quote) Willing Webcam is compatible with most USB-based or FireWire (IEEE 1394) video devices, including capture cards, webcams, camcorders, tv tuners, parallel-port cameras. It can also work with IP network cameras and supports the pan, tilt, zoom features for Logitech Orbit (Sphere) cameras.

Their documentation is weird, but you need only two help files: howto and faq.

Err..why don't you just connect the video out of your VCR to the video in of your video card..your video card should have a capture driver. Then select your video cards capture as your "webcam". I use to do this with yahoo messenger and my TV tuner card.
