In other news, that very same 53% of high school students are MTV viewers. That's the purpose of it being on MTV, ya know?

I'm  to say I never even heard of it.

Don't know of any books but here's one place to start:
Unit 731
"The acts of Unit 731 are only one of many major war crimes committed by the Imperial Japanese Army from the occupation of Manchuria in 1931 to the end of World War II in 1945, during which over 15 million Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Indonesian, Burmese, Indochinese civilians, Pacific Islanders and Allied POWs were killed."

More:
Japanese war crimes

"The United States believed that the research data was valuable because the allies had never conducted this type of human experimentation. Also, the U.S. did not want any other nation, particularly the Soviet Union, to acquire data on biological weapons. Therefore, in exchange for the data, the United States did not charge the officers of Unit 731 with war crimes.

On the other hand, the Soviet Union relentlessly pursued the case and prosecuted several officials from the unit because many Soviets were also tortured and experimented upon, along with Mongolians and Koreans. The officials were tried in the Khabarovsk War Crime Trials.

Many former members of Unit 731 became part of the Japanese medical establishment. Dr Kitano Masaji led Japan's largest pharmaceutical company, the Green Cross. Others headed medical schools or worked for the Japanese health ministry."

OK, I'm convinced the Japanese government at the bare minimum needs to acknowledge this.

oppose Japan 's bid for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council

that cant be true. I went to highschool in florida, which i think is 40something in the worst educated states(see i cant even count) and everyone i know, or even some of the dum dums i spoke to, would easily know anything the holocaust. MTV probably took 10 mexicans that cant speak a lick of english and gave them the quiz.

i went to high school in florida too. and assuming your "coral" means "coral springs" or "coral gables," i know you're close enough to a pretty large elderly population, many of whom are jewish. maybe that has something to do with the fact that we're learning about the holocaust, while in some other random southern state, the holocaust is not part of students' academic curriculums.

Main reason why China and Korea is against Japan to become a member of U.N. Security Council is because Japan still denies their wrong doings in WWII, not like German.
Japan still denies about Unit 731, Nanjing massacre, sex slaves as well as many other war crime issues when the victims of those incidents are still alive.
Even worse, U.S government is again supporting Japan on this matter not to mention the cover up of Japanese war crimes.

perhaps, but china has also commited horrific crimes, against its own people no less, killing far more and far more recently. remember tienamen square? and even more recently its spent its time maneuvering weapons and blatently threatening peaceful free democratic people such as taiwan. japan has been peaceful since ww2. yet china is on the security council and you want people to object to them getting a seat. to be consistent you should ask for chinas removal along with japans denial of a seat.

I agree and come to think of it, China should be removed first and Japan shouldn't take the seat second. But then again, I don't think China would be removed as they're already in there (Hell, think about what U.S has been doing to U.N and how U.S still holds the power). So my answer is simple: No Japan in the seat.
