Yeah you square up and get into the face of a cop like that it won't go well. Guy steps up into the cop and proclaims "US soldier bro. Know who you're talking to". Who the hell cares. Guys an idiot.

MPs would handle him the same way if he stepped up to them in an aggressive fashion.

Soldier boy is an idiot.

Hope it creates some humility in him going forward in life as a check-out clerk at Wallyworld.

On a related note, it really should be mandatory for all police officers to wear those camera things and always have them on when making a stop/arrest. Nothing protects the rights of both the suspect and the cop like raw video footage of what actually happened. It's really disgusting to me how police officers in general are very much so against videotapes of incidents.

This.

What a twat.

From the video I saw, the cop stepped closer to him first and he turned to square up. Cop abused his power. They're trained to defuse these situations, not show someone that he is the boss. I'll cut law enforcement slack for mistakes, but I hold them to a higher standard when they step out of line.

What does the 'victim' being military have to do with anything?

Somewhere between 'jack' and 'shit.' The 'soldier' part was not what the cop took offense to. Although this would be a little more 'sensational' if the guy was in uniform (also probably wouldn't have happened).

I will admit, though, I had to laugh a little.

'You're talking to a US soldier, brah...'

'...US MARINE, BITCH!' *SLAP*

But that was pretty fucked up, and definitely more severe than a slap (which would still be unacceptable). Yeah, the dude was being a douche; so what.

I've been frustrated with, say, a retail store before. Maybe let a couple expletives slip. On a couple occasions, I've been a little riled up, but calmed down after a minute or two and apologized. 'Sorry dude, I know it's not your fault, I'm just extremely frustrated right now.'

...'Nah, it's alright man, I totally understand, we'll get this taken care of for you.'

I mean, really...that kind of response is more typical that not. $8-10/hr employees are used to people getting frustrated and upset, and can usually shrug it off. But a fuckin' cop can't? I find that absurd. (sidenote: the thought of a Best Buy employee or something yelling 'CALM DOWN SIR' and jumping across the counter to tackle an agitated customer amuses me)

He should get charged with assault.

Also I gotta identify with the guy's complaint, anyway. There are usually cops about two blocks from my house watching for people running a stop sign, or radaring cars as they come down a hill...if you make a 911 call, they dispatch someone from a station across town, and it takes forever. WTF is that about?

Another manifestation of the growing levels of narcissism among our young people. I never heard my uncles (or anyone else's) who served in Korea or Vietnam going around proffering their military service in demand of some sort of free pass, brownie point, or greater show of respect to which they believe they are entitled, but I've seen it in dozens of videos in the past several years and have even witnessed it a couple times in person.

I'm betting as much as it irks me, it irks even more those who served but don't go around with a sense of entitlement or chip on their shoulder about it.

1) That idiot was begging to get bitch slapped.

2) Any reasonable, intelligent cop could have defused that situation pretty easily and that cop went out of his way to exacerbate things.

They both deserve some discipline.

Also, you guys defending the cop realize he has his knee on the guys throat out of view of the camera, right? 'Say uncle' is not a proper game for a police officer to play.

edit: God, I don't want to keep watching, but I do. The whole 'I accept your apology' bit makes my stomach churn. The nutbags really do get off on this shit, and everytime someone gives in (obviously not gonna fight back unless you want prison), they become that much more fucked up an individual.

edit2: 'I'm gonna write up a report of our contact, but I'm not gonna charge you with anything...'

Seriously, this guy needs to get stabbed in the fucking throat.

I have no sympathy for either party. Both acted completely out of line.

Yeah, that pretty well sums it up.

You're a tool, do you deserve the same as the guy in the video? At the hands of the police? When you are seeking their help?

Holy shit people are stupid

It's a lack of ability to judge something from an impartial view, IMO.

The dude claimed he had been beaten up and robbed or some shit. He called the cops. When they got there, he dropped a couple F-bombs. Casual ones; didn't even call the cop a name. Just cursed as a somewhat involuntary (or learned, at least) expression of frustration...military folk can be prone to this...hard to blame them.

And he asked why it took 45 minutes for a response.

It doesn't matter how douchey he was. It's not the cop's job to judge his character. It's his job to take care of the situation and not be more thin-skinned and petty than most five-year-olds.

Going by ONLY what I see in the video, the "victim" was probably highly agitated after just being assaulted and robbed. The copy CLEARLY instigated with him and was in the wrong.
