Video Card for P4, 1.3MHZ

Well, I am officially hooked on Call of Duty. I still have not figured out how to beat the 13 year olds. No matter. My PC is a Dell 8100 and it is a P4 1.3Mhz, 32MB Video Card & 768MB of Ram. I would like to upgrade the video card but I am not sure which card to choose. I know I don't want to go too high end as it would be a waste of $$ on a now older machine.

Any suggestions? Any sites on the web where I can read or that can help me decide?

Thanks, Bill

Thanks for the help so far. According to my motherboard spec:

AGP 4X or PCI devices (see manufacturer's specifications)

I want to keep it under $200. I could be wrong but anything over $200 would be overkill.

True indeed, I would go with that 9600 if I were you, it would still be overkill, but if you decided to get a new system, you could still use it, plus it's pretty inexpensive.

id suggest getting a new processor. your ram seems fine. a 9600xt(82.50) and a new p4 will fit under 200 right?

That's kinda hard to do, that model was based on the socket 423 P4's. I think the highest it supports is 1.5 GHz

Radonguy,

Can you show me the card you mean at NewEgg? There are 7 cards that have Geforce4 Ti in the description. Thx

That would probably be better because it supports directx 9 and stuff like that and im not exacly sure how many pipelines the Ti has

Cool. I get a discount at CompUSA and the card already has a $30 rebate so I should get it for $85 or so.

Thanks to all for the help.

DON"T GET THAT CARD!!!! the 9600SE is the worst card currently being produced. Get a used Geforce 4 ti 4200 off of the fs/ft fourm.

I hate to see people suckered into ATI/Nvidia marketing. Are you looking for only new? Or is used fine as well?

I think the highest socket 423 willie is 1.8/256k/400. But your right, will his board support the multiplier.

Patters, your nicest option is a GeForce Ti 4200 128MB AGP 4x card. 8x will work in your board also as all 8x cards can operate at 4x. The Ti4200 kills the vanilla 9600 in anything OpenGL & DX8.1 and under. And Nvidia cards are much much better at OpenGL games which Call of Duty is.

For 50 to 60 dollars in the FS/FT forum from a trusted seller, you can't go wrong.
And save quite a few bucks while getting a terrific card.

They did have 2Ghz willies, but I dont know if you could find them anymore. Either a ti4200 or a radeon 9600 would be cpu limited by anything he would get in that board, but I would take the 9600 just for the sake of having full dx9 capability, and much more future proof.
