APAP is bad for you, but I seriously doubt the OP is imbibing 3-4 grams of it.

OP, you should call whomever did your surgery and explain your pain. At the very least they could bump up your medicine. However, with today's rate of abuse they will probably tell you to rotate another non-narcotic analgesic like ibuprofen or asprin with your pain meds.

I too had minor surgery yesterday, and am also taking Vicodin. At first, I was taking two every 4 hours, but right now, I am just taking one. Talk to your doctor, as I find it hard to believe you can't take a higher dosage if warranted by the pain.

I had a hernia sergery and was given codiene, nto sure where that ranks among the other pain killers, but i was never in any pain and didn't use it. Actually i've never used a pain killer in my life before, i tihnk its probably best that if you arent in much pain to just deal with it isntead of taking drugs, that way if you ever really need a pain killer you wont be immune to them (my mom used to take alot of pain killers and now nothing works for here, even morphine has no effect).

Call your MD and get a prescription for somthing stronger. Trust me they will understand and take care of you. In medicine there is a strong belief that patients should not go through unnecessary pain. Pain control is a big deal and they will make sure to help you out.

Vicodin is rather weak stuff and really not good for doing much more than giving you a stomach ache. Percocet or maybe just immediate release oxycodone is better and I'm sure they would bump it up to that.

Dont mess with dosing out Ibuprofen etc on your own, stick to the package recommendations. Anything else should be determined by your MD.

Honestly, they would appreciate the call so they can help take care of the problem rather than have you do it on your own.

you need to toughen up and not become dependant on drugs.

I didn't take a single thing after my vasectomy.. just used bags of frozen peas.

I'm sorry, but this doctor is seriously overestimating my healing abilities or something.

He says I need two days of recovery, I had to use a week of vacation time rather than short term disability because of that.

So anyways I'm in real pain and the pills are 5 vicodin 500 acetaminophen. I've already taken two and I'm wondering how many is dangerous?

I had an appendectomy this past week and they gave me 40 tables of oxy.... thats enough to take down a horse.

If you don't mind my asking, what kind of surgery was it?

I have had vicadin/percasets prescribed to me on several occasions. I have had knee surgery on three different occasions, as well as other operations, and received those pain killers. I never had to take more than 1 at a time every 6 hours. I did occasionally take 2 in the evening to go to sleep.

I just wonder what kind of surgery you had, and how the heck, if it is minor surgery, that you could be in so much pain. I am not trying to be insulting, just curious.

Off topic, but my wife wanted to speed up the post surgery instructions, we started the day after surgery to hurry things along.
