Vick to be paid more than Manning....

Manning is getting payed more then Vick. Manning's contract is 98 million/7 years or 14 million per year. Vick's contract is 100 million/10 years or 10 million per year, so Manning is getting 4 million more per year. It's just Vick's signing bonus (or guaranteed money) is $37 million or 3 million more then Manning's.

Good for business, before Vick: no media attention, lower merchandise sales, no winning, no sell-outs. After Vick: media attention, high merchandise sales (Vick #1 selling jersey), every game sell-out with Vick, winning (both years when he was majority starter 2002 & 2004 go to playoffs).

No offense, but Vick isn't half the player Peyton is.

Vick is almost everything Manning is as a quarterback AND more. Do you see Peyton rushing for 48 yd touchdowns? I think not. Vick is without a doubt more valuable a player than Peyton Manning, when he's healthy of course.

I want what you're smoking.

As for Vick vs Manning...uhm, how can you even compare? Manning is the far superior QB. Yes, Vick is a great guy to have behind center, and yes, he can do things Manning can't...but if you were starting a franchise and had to choose one or the other, who in their right mind would choose Vick?

I would choose Vick. His style of play is what fans want to watch. He can bring them out of their seats by a running the ball. Which means more money for me.

Who is better? That is a hard question. Of course we seen without Vick the Falcons can't do crap. I would like to see how good Vick does with better players.

Manning has an unbelievable line that gives him time to throw the football. I remember watching the Thanksgiving Day game and seeing how long Manning had to throw the ball.

But like I said I would take Vick. With better players he could be a better QB. IMO

Holy shit..are you serious...

Vick's 40 time: <4.2 or thereabouts 🙂

Manning's 40 time: 27yds in 7.6 seconds 😛

Put them both in the QB challenge, Manning would mop the floor with Vick.

Vick is the QB version of Primetime, Superman. If there is a better athlete in the NFL, please let me know(no, it is certainly not Peppers).

WHOA

Bottomline: Vick will sell tickets no matter how bad his team is, nothing like seeing a QB single handedly rip the sh!t out of an NFL Defense. The dimension of Vick's running does not require a good O-line or Pro-Bowl receivers, just a field and a Defense to run through. They are both worth EVERY penny.

Also, many people aren't talking about it... but Vick's current contract had incentives & those incentives were met so the contract would've been voided & Vick would've been an UnRestricted Free Agent March 2005. Money-wise, I think Vick can bring more to your franchise then Manning. Manning is a more complete quarterback (typical, dropback). Vick is a more exciting player, multi-dimensional (his passing can only get better). Comparing first 30 or so starts Manning vs Vick, Manning has overwhelming passing stats, Vick has overwhelming running stats, Vick has a higher winning percentage. Vick is currently 3rd in winning percentage amongst all active quarterbacks. Vick is also very young, younger then Joey Harrington, Carson Palmer, and David Carr. Vick's about 6 months older then Eli Manning, Vick still needs a lot of improvement passing but he's so young.

DAMN, the Bears will never get him now!!! :"(

The bottom line is, as many have said, is that Vick wins games. I don't care if the guy has one leg; if he can win games, he'll get $$

Obviously they both have different styles of play. But in the end its whoever wins. Personally I like Vick.

Exactly. He's winning, and he'll (hopefully) keep winning, so he's worth the money.

His passing game isn't the greatest right now, no, but he has the tools to improve greatly (i.e. one of, if not the, strongest arms in the NFL). He's still adjusting to an entirely new offensive scheme, and that is most likely attributing to many of his mishaps. Give him a couple years to get used to everything, and to work on his passing ability, and we'll see how things go.

They are two totally different players but IMO the better QB is Manning. Vick is less accurate, more injury prone, takes more sacks, and has a worse TD to turnover ratio. He (along with the rest of the NFL QB's) can't read a defense and call a play anywhere near Manning's ability either. The *only* thing Vick has over Peyton is the ability to run/scramble.

All that said, I'm a Tampa Bay area resident and the current GM of the Falcons is Rich McKay - former GM of the Bucs and a guy I respect a great deal. I'm sure he feels the contract is a good one for both parties.

This is the way people need to look at Vick's contract... Vick gets a huge signing bonus, then he stick with Atlanta for the rest of his NFL career and makes about $6.5 million a year until he retires of the Falcon give him the boot. Vick and the team both know there is a slim chance that he will make it 10 more years as an effective QB.

Most people who consider Vick to be a subpar QB need to take into account the fact that Falcons has no decent WRs. Peerless Price is the best that they have, and he probably wouldn't even be in Indy's starting lineup. The Falcons should get one or two fast receivers so Vick has someone to throw to.

As someone said before each contract in sports will always be bigger that the previous. Falcons think Vick is worth that much...thats good for them. They locked him in for the next 10 yrs.

To compare Vick and Peyton as QB's is pretty difficult as they both have different styles in which they play. The bottom line is they win. Most of the NFL coaches out there have stated that Vick is a defensive coordinators nightmare with how he can break a team down in so many ways. Including Peytons current coach defensive guru Tony Dungy who has stated that Vick is the most difficult QB to prepare against.

Peyton has may pro bowl offensive weapons that he has available to him. Marvin Harrison..Edge...plus the emergance of Wade and Stokley as receivers as well and one of the big time kickers in the NFL in Vanderjagt

Vick is pretty much a one man show in Atlanta and still getting the job done.

Okay, now this is funny. The ONLY way in which Vick is better than Peyton is running. Peyton is better in every other facet of the game, and always will be.
Vick is too dumb to ever be a great NFL QB if he loses his running ability.

Vick is in the bottom 6 of the league in nearly every passing stat. (maybe in all of them)
Peyton is at the top, and has been at or near the top for several years now. He's a well-proven talent.

Atlanta's defense is in the top 1/3 or so of the NFL. Indy's is very near the bottom. Very telling stat.

Is Vick more valuable to his team? Hard to say. The Colts would be absolutely pitiful if Manning went down. The Falcons at least have a defense that could keep them in enough games to win a few.

Vick is a turnover machine, fumbles and interceptions.
He has 13 TD passes, but 12 INT's. Has fumbled 15 times in 14 games, and lost 7 of them.
So, if he didn't have a good defense to help make up for his turnovers, his rushing would be for naught. For every good play he makes, he hurts the team just as many times.

I'll give you this: Vick is electrifying as a runner, no doubt. It is hard to defend against a fast QB. If anyone says they would build a team for the long run around Vick over Manning, then they need their head examined.
A strong arm isn't everything. Lots of guys have had stronger arms than him.
Vick will need to become a competent passer before he is considered a great QB. He'll also need better passing skills if he wants to stay in the NFL for more than 2-3 more years. At this point, if he got hurt and his running ability was reduced to simply better than average for a QB, he wouldn't even be able to start for most college teams, much less an NFL team.

I think it's a great move for him to get a big signing bonus, and I think it's irrelevant that the Falcons signed him to a long-term deal....both the Falcons and Vick's agent know that he'll never last that long, and they both better get as much out of him as possible while he's young.

They both "do what they do" better than anyone else.

Hey, call me a fanboi, Mike Vick is awesome....I'd easily take him over Manning for my Chigaco Bears.

exactly, i love watching vick play, but if i was going to pick a player to build a team around it would be Manning...

actually right now it would be Palmer (he is a manning type player but much younger), damn he is starting to look good and he is young...

How the hell could you forget his favorite target, Alge Crumpler, pro-bowl tight end?

While I still think Peyton Manning is the better quarterback of the two, let's not forget that Peyton has Marvin Harrison to throw to and Edgerrin James to hand the ball to. If I had to start a franchise today, my QB would be Tom Brady, all the guy does is win Super Bowls. Undefeated in the playoffs, you can't get any better than that. Plus, Tom Brady has Peyton's number. 🙂

I was listening to sportstalk radio tonight (ESPN?) and the host read off 30 or so higher rated QB's in the NFL. Now I don't believe a QB rating takes rushing into account but it's still a point. Vick's style of play makes him more of a risk to sacks, fumbles, and worse yet, injury.

I still say Manning > Vick and I'd probably take 5 more QB's over Vick right now, maybe more.

First off Ne0 I think you nailed it as far as contract numbers go, all the commotion is about a signing bonus. I would go a different path with the owners intentions though and argue that they feel Vick is their player to build a winning franchise around. Despite what we all think someone in Falcons HQ decided they could build a winning team with Vick at Qb and the best way to do so is to take the hit on their cap now (his signing bonus) while locking him in for 10 yrs. In the long run this will free up cap room for them to add a supporting cast around Vick and try to turn the Falcons into a real superbowl contender.

I dont like Vick or all the attention he gets but someone in the Falcons organization things they can mold Vick, or atleast harness his athleticism, into an effective QB. Who is to say Vick cant be great with the addition of some actual WR talent as well as a few years in the new pseudo west coast system he has been forced to play in. Someone must be willing to take the chance that Vick's playmaking wont continue to tax his body at the rate it has over the past few years. I say he hasnt proven he is worth that kind of money but then again, im not the one writin the checks.🙂

Ummm it's obvious he can throw it very hard when he needs to, even while on the run.

They need to bring back the QB challenge to make these things clear 😛

When in doubt, consult Madden lolol.
