I can't get all worked up by animal fighting as a "sport". Boxers beat each other senseless, football players destroy their bodies over the course of a career, calves are chased down and tied, steers are wrestled head-first into the ground, bulls are tortured and then killed. You're wrong. Cockfighting is illegal too (except in Louisiana and maybe one other state?) Animal cruelty laws don't just apply to cute animals. If you don't understand the difference between killing an animal as quickly as possible and putting two animals in a ring and forcing them to fight, then I can't help you.

There's a legal difference between domesticated and non-domesticated animals i believe.

Example: Feed rats are much more expensive than "pet" rats because they have much different laws detailing how they must be treated before they reach the customer.

There's also the Quality of Life to look at. If you shoot a deer it spends maybe 3 minutes dying, whereas these dogs were likely kept in terrible conditions their entire lives.

like its varying levels of 'bad' really. people seem like they are shocked, when really they shouldnt be. sure vick did a bad and horrible thing, but its like... just the next step past hunting. or dog racing, or boxing or mixed martial arts. its not like you couldnt see what the next step in the progression was. people are entertained by ... using animals to entertain and watching things beat the crap out of each other.

then again i also dont own a dog so i suppose i dont get the sentiment as much as someone who has a dog.

Here's another thought that only a genius like myself and the OP could ponder... why is it legal for people to promote and stage boxing but not to promote and stage dog fights? It seems ridiculous. I mean Emanuel Stewart is no better than Mike Vick. Both trained animals to fight other animals. Yeah, so we don't electrocute boxers, we just leave them crippled with pugilistic parkinson's. We are such hypocrites.

Also, why do we allow sperm to fight each other for which one gets to fertilize the egg? It seems like we should be concerned for the other sperm.

Boxers choose to fight. NFL players choose to play. Both of them know it can cause lifelong injuries. They take the risk to make the bucks. And if they wouldn't, there'd be thousands waiting to do it instead. It's hardly the same thing.

Uh, because we choose to fight and we enjoy the sport. No one is forcing me to box and no one will kill me for losing a match. Also boxing is much less dangerous than most people think. If a human wants to get his ass kicked I have no problem with them, if they are that stupid.

Forcing ANY animal to fight another animal where the loser is KILLED is just wrong, especially when it becomes a spectator ordeal where people are gambling on it. In boxing, if you lose you have a busted face for a few days. They don't take you out back and shoot you if you lose.

The last portion of your argument is stupid. Are you implying we shouldn't procreate? That's natural, anyhow.

food processing has desensitised americans into thinking hunting is wrong and killing is immoral. That cheeseburger didnt grow out of the ground and people are grossed out by killing when they never have done it themselves.

Here's a random thought: What about the miners that you hear about every so often that are buried alive? Same basic comcept: they are trained and paid to do a dangerous job and sometimes they are injured or even killed doing it.

Hans, if a person were to chain up deer and electrocute them, pay and gamble to see them, train them, abuse them, etc, then you bet your ass they would be outlawed from doing it.

I'm not a hunter. I have never hunted and will never do so outside of a survival situation, but the reality is that your OP is ridiculous and a terribad comparison between what Vick was doing and what "hunting" really is.

Hunters do not kill an animal as quickly as possible. If this was true then hunters would be required by law to use the most efficient weapons for killing a deer. Instead they hunt with compound bows and shotguns many times. I've even heard that people hunt deer with pistols. A rifle with a scope is a much more efficient way to kill a deer due to it's accuracy. Compound bows while pretty accurate fire a much larger projectile that will be susceptible to wind and the chance of missing the kill shot goes up. Shotguns doubly so using slugs.

An arrow is just as deadly as any bullet. nearly every bow hunter (i used to bow hunt for years) does not take shots over 30 yards and only if they have a killing shot (same wiht most hunters).

a good bow shot goes through both lungs and heart. wich will drop the animal in its tracks. a off shot will still hit either both lungs or one and the heart. wich will cause the animal to die in a matter of yards.

A broadhead is 1.5 inches around. with usually 3 blades. Some places allow you to use larger heads. not only is the FPS high the arrow is spinning. The arror can be effected by wind. but not as much as people think.

A decent shot with a bow should be able to hit a bullseye at 20 yards 90% of the time. hell i could hit a pop can at 45yards 40% of the time and be right around it the rest.

for a killing shot on a deer i am confident enough to say i could hit it 95% of the time at the distance i would take a shot (5-20 yards some go out to 30 but not much more then that)

I have only seen one person have to track the animal more then 20 yards. But the guy was a asshole. he would take any shot (one was 45 yards at a small doe, he couldnt find the poor thing after the hit). last i heard he was baned from all priavet hunting grounds and was in trouble at public places.


very few places allow you to use shotguns. you can use blackpowder for a short time. you ever see a blackpowder gun? the slugs are huge and do a LOT of damage.
