lmao seriously get a grip.

There is no need to apologize for an accident. Cheney not running to his nearest media whore doesnt need apologizing either.

is that so, asshole? how many times have you accidentally bumped into someone and looked at them and kept walking?

not only that, there's no such thing as an accident when someone is negligent with a firearm. it's like going 90 mph on a 45 mph road and crashing into someone and calling that a "car accident." there's no accident about it... it's a crash do to improper use and irresponsibility. the same rules apply with fvcknuts shooting his friend in the face (who was wearing BLAZE ORANGE, by the way, which isn't exactly hard to miss - no pun intended) while he was trying to shoot a small bird....

Be honest, would it be easy for you if you did the same thing to just go stand up in front of cameras? I'd imagine you'd be pretty embarrased about it too.

Please, enough of the air of elitism, OK? He's not perfect, but neither are you. Accept it.
There is nothing elitist about it. He is the VEEP for chriisakes quit apoligizing for him and let him be a man about it.

Hell yes it would have been easy for me to do since it was an honest accident I would have nothing to hide. Embarassing sure but nothing as embarassing as carrying on for two days without saying anything to anybody about it. As an elected public officer he is required to have a level of accessibility to the public for good or bad, whether he likes it or not.

to think otherwise is foolish, to act like he can go about his business is foolish. The media, the left, anyone with a thinking brain won't let him get away with it. And finally, now that the administration has been cornered by the media he is granting one interview with FOX news (of all outlets) to discuss what happened...what a crock. They could have handled this alot better but then again, this is just another example of stumbling and bumbling by this administration.

I dont see how you can disagree with this. If you were to put Al Gore in this situation instead of Cheney what would be your opinion then?

I am not apologizing for anybody.

Easy to say it would be easy to do, but you've never had to. Perhaps you are not as easily shaken by stuff, I dunno. If you could be more bold about telling the public, good for you. What I don't like is how you are being so judgemental of him.

If I was to put Al Gore in the same situation it wouldn't be any different. I don't care who it was that did it, fact is it happened. Now if it had been Gore, would you make so much of a stink about it?
If there is something to hide then yes I would make a big deal about it. The way this has been handled so far screams some kind of cover up, sorry you can't see that.

I am sorry I am being so judgemental of your guy. Cheer up, he is going to get away with it.

how in the balls could it possibly be whittington's fault?! that's like setting a house on fire and blaming the contractor for using wood.

finally, it looks like someone in the white house is finally using their noggin.

He doesn't have to apologize for an accident, but unfortunately he needs to apologize for this one because America (read media) wants to see him apologize for it, otherwise it will never go away. He should have apologized publicly from the start, in order to diffuse the situation. It just goes to show that the people running this administration don't really have much in terms of compassion and sensibility, it was really stupid to say nothing up to this point.

1, it wasn't an accident. it was negligence. there's a difference.

2, yes he does. you don't rear-end a car in your h2 hummer because you were busy looking for your favorite david allen coe cd and climb down your h2 hummer to say, "yeah, that was definitely an accident. you should be more careful next time. gotta go."

my initial reaction is that this isn't the way to properly conduct himself after such a huge issue has been made over this accident. He is acting like he has something to hide.

is it so hard just to stand there in front of cameras and say it was an accident? and that he is sorry for hurting the man??

maybe it wasn't an accident.

i wouldn't doubt it. it's hard as hell to ACCIDENTALLY shoot someone in the face from 30 feet away.... especially when they're wearing a blindingly loud color like blaze orange.

FOX (FAUX) is the 'Official Mouthpiece' of the Republican Party.

There will be video documentation that the person he shot was hidding behind a tree and when Cheney turned to shoot
at the clipped winged, chained to a post quail - that he jumped out in front of the bird to protect it . . .
like a Hockey Goalie Tree Hugging PETA member.
Good lord, he took some 200 pellets at 90 feet, heck of a shot.
What's a 28Ga shell hold anyway - about 201 pellets ?

Especially Brit Hume. He is one of the biggest party puppets out there.

HAHAHA brit hume! hahaha that dude's such a joke-ass puppet. he looks like a wax ventriloquist dummy that was left out in the sun.

you don't have to be perfect to not shoot people in the face with a shotgun... just don't point at your buddy and don't fire. it's got nothing to do with being an eagle scout or a saint.

I want to chime in on this topic.

The right-wing hate radio types are amazed (AMAZED!) that the fact Cheney shot a man is a big story in the main-stream media right now. They shouldn't be. I mean, how stupid do you have to be to think "Cheney Shoots Friend in Face" is not going to be a big story. Come on. We're talking about the Vice President of the U.S. shooting a man. So this first talking point is beyond lame. Beyond it!

The second talking point seems to be that "Oh Cheney just shot his friend, of course he's going to be more concerned about his friend's health than telling the media right away."

Look, sure we understand that. I'm willing to take on face value the fact that the whole thing was an accident. I mean they probably had a few beers or whatever, but hey these things happen. And of course you attend to your friend's health first. Get him to the hospital. Notify all of his family. But after all of that is taken care of, a normal decent person who is an elected official would then try to set the record straight with the media. Come out with an announcement. Talk to the press. Tell the American people what happened in your own words.

This whole business that Cheney was obsessed with getting the story out "acc-rate" is beyond retarded. The very next day he could have gone public with exactly what he knew at the time. Which is: "There's been a hunting accident. My friend was hit with some birdshot. He's in the hospital, but he's doing fine." End of story.

But what does Cheney do? He clams up. Tries to minimize the story by sending some 3rd party to some podunk little Texas paper so it looks like some little blurb. Try to manage the story. Stay silent from Saturday (the day it happened) until today when he goes on Fox News -- does Cheney ever do an interview anywhere else? -- and takes some softballs from GOP-cheerleader Brit Hume.

Now, the thing about Cheney is ... nobody really like the man. He's creepy, he's paranoid, he's lied blatently to the media and the American people. So when someone like Cheney pulls this sort of crap, you instinctually start wondering what it is the guy's hiding. I'm not suggesting a cover up, but normal thinking people are looking at this and wondering WTF?

I know I am. And the right-wing apologists throwing up their hands and going "Why is this even a story to begin with?" are looking damned moronic at this point. If they don't know that "Cheney Shoots Guy in Face" doesn't make for a fantastic media circus then they're even stupider than I've been giving them credit for.

And then, even worse in my opinion, are the comparisons to the Clinton Administration. I mean, why are we even talking about them? Yes, they did their share of weird paranoid things too, but this is not a contest to determine whose worse. This is about the here and now. Two wrongs don't make a right. It's a stupid line of thinking that compounds the stupidity of the "why is this even a story" BS.

Look, bottom line -- the VP of our country shot a guy, who was a little touch and go just yesterday, and this is by its very nature a HUGE story. Yes, it probably was an accident. Quite possibly an intoxicated accident, but whatever. For the VP to act like he doesn't need to give any explanation to ANYONE, except to home turf Fox News Channel 5 days later, goes beyond arrogant.

i'm sorry... i thought this story was about dick cheney and had nothing to do with al gore. i guess i'm either mistaken or there's some douchebag republican trying to use a weak hypothetical situation involving a democrat in cheney's shoes to take the scope off cheney.

cheney should change his name legally to [myg0t]Cheney

from the transcript of the interview

Question: What about just coming out yourself Monday/Tuesday -- how come?

Cheney: Well, part of it obviously has to do with the status of Harry Whittington. And it's a difficult subject to talk about, frankly, Brit. But most especially I've been very concerned about him and focused on him and feel more comfortable coming out today because of the fact that his circumstances have improved, he's gotten by what was a potential crisis yesterday, with respect to the developments concerning his heart. I think this decision we made, that this was the right way to do it.

I think Cheney's been watching too much Brokeback.. 😛

all in all a great interview for Cheney, the right questions were asked and the right answers were given..for Cheney.

The exchange about security leaks at the end is interesting.

I doubt it was 30 yards away.

And, Cheney has been caught in a LIE!!

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c53/RPGamerd00d/KatharineArmstrongLied.jpg (notice the passage circled in red)
"Katharine Armstrong said she saw Cheney's security detail running toward the scene. "The first thing that crossed my mind was he had a heart problem," she told The Associated Press."

HOWEVER, on FAUX, Cheney told Brit:
THE VICE PRESIDENT: I said Karl has hunted at the Armstrong, as
well, and we're both good friends of the Armstrongs and of Katherine
Armstrong. And Katherine suggested, and I agreed, that she would go
make the announcement, that is that she'd put the story out. And I
thought that made good sense for several reasons. First of all, she was
an eye-witness. She'd seen the whole thing.

If her 1st thought was that Dick had a heart attack, how could she be an eye-witness???

Dick, Dick, Dick, Dick. You really shouldn't like and commit felonies like that. You could get brought up on felony charges...well...if you weren't the Dick.

I caught that immediately in the transcript of the interview Conjur. Lets see if the press catches that too..

I got kind of squirmy reading how concerned he was over his friend. So concerned that I guess all other business of beeing a VEEP was stopped so he can "focus" on getting his friend better.

ummm yeah...

Oh and the "complicated story" phrase, umm whats so complicated about you screwing up and shooting your friend in the face? seems pretty straightforward.

it should be an interesting 48 hours.

No, in fact they haven't. I guess your going to prove to us the following occurred:

First: That the witness was scheduled to be a witness in court;

Second: That the person used intimidation/physical force against such witness; and

Third: That the person did so knowingly and willfully with the intent to influence the testimony of the witness.
