he seems to really enjoy the killing

the VP is really showing what a complete pencil-necked dweeb he is

yep, just a couple of Bush/Cheney haters.

"I hunted quite a bit as a kid and most of the time I never got anything."

well there you go! why on earth do you think hunting on a reserve is so popular?
you've got to be a moron (or unemployed) to spend "4-200 hours"
lugging a shotgun around without any real hope of success.
I suppose your idea of fishing is to never catch any fish.

killing a deer at 100 yards with a high powered rifle is no more noble or ignoble than hunting on a reserve.
fishing in a lake stocked by the natural resources department is no more noble or ignoble than hunting on a reserve.
how about using bird calls, fishing lures, or decoys? they improve your odds when hunting, are they ignoble as well?
slaughtering millions of chickens in meat processing plants is ok, but shooting a few hundred birds is not?

at least if you were a PETA freak, i could admire you for your convictions, while disagreeing with them.
but your not even consistent or logical in your position, your just Cheney haters.

I was in agreement with you, until you wrote "you've got to be a moron (or unemployed) to spend "4-200 hours"

Has it never occurred to you that many Hunters do it for the sport. Some feel It is not a real challenge to go and plug some farm raised birds; that only wild birds will do, whether you get any or not.

To refer to anyone who doesn't "hunt" at a game farm as "a moron" or unemployed is offensive and ignorant.

I don't know why you felt it was in your right to attach the phrase "without any real hope of success" to the previous poster's statement.

What other logical conclusion do you have for someone who kills 70+ animals in a day?

I would say the same things if it were Howard Dean killing en masse.

the poster stated himself that "most of the time I never got anything" when he went hunting.

i apologize for following the low-road set by the poster who called our vice-president a "pencil-necked dweeb."
it was uncivil of me.

i agree that hunting is different things to different people. indeed, the thing i find the most enjoyable in hunting birds is watching the dogs perform. it helps you understand how they have been bred. spending time outdoors with friends and family in a communal endeavor is fun..yes, you do not need to actually catch or kill anything when hunting to enjoy the hunt..but it sure gets old if you never do!

haha what kind of loser thinks of this as a fun sport.

Good grief.

Is there anything good about Cheney at all?

Well he's probably living on borrowed time.

If he were to cash it in who do you think the Dub would pick as a VP? Asscroft, Herr Wolfowitz?

no cheney is not a 'pencil necked dweeb', he obviously has to have a neck like a tree trunk in order to hold up his fat head.

You gotta' get that mitral valve prolapse fixed 'cause yer' leakin all over the forum. What a mess! :)

Most of the pleasure of hunting is getting outdoors and spending some time alone or with one or two friends away from the craziness that is America today. Furthermore, I haven't hunted in 5 or 6 years and it took me 2 years to eat the little bit of venison I ended up with. I never took joy in the killing but saw it as a source of food which is no different than guys who buy burgers at Mickey Dees where they sometimes kill the beef before you get it. :) By the way, ditto for fishing. Not catching anything is rare when fishing, but still, a day of fishing is a great relaxer. These days a long run serves the same purpose, though I can keep my sylph-like figure if I run. :)

I wish I were a vegetarian, by the way. They don't get all those chemicals and hormones we get in our beef, chicken, and pork. I'm not good enough to be a vegetarian. :)

Yeah, Cheney is too fat to be a pencil knecked dweeb. But he is a physical wreck. :)

what? you say!
well, the way a "canned hunt" works, is that the hunters PAY someone to raise these birds specifically for hunting. the birds are then released in a cornfield or someother "fallow" section of land, and the hunters use dogs to find the birds and shoot them. turns aout that a fair number of these birds (who would not otherwise exist, having been "farm raised") escape, and fly away, actually increasing the number of birds in the wild.

so, lets see, the "canned hunting" industry increases the number of game birds in the wild, supports keeping large plots of land fallow, and provides income for the people who manage the hunting reserve...sounds pretty "Green" to me. what's your beef again?

Just like Fox hunts? ... REally though.. you are correct.. BUT.. Cheney did not do this to help the environment ... he did it because he LIKES/LOVES to kill stuff and is too fat and out of shape to go on a real hunt...

I think that piece of sh!t should go to Iraq if he wants to practice shooting things....

No kidding. Send Wolfy, Rummy and Cheney over there and they'd be back in body bags in a month. Too much like real work. Bush, on the other hand, is very fit and would probably survive, even at his age. Gotta give the man props for staying in shape. I heard he took up running after 40 as a way to deal with his alchoholism. Gotta give him props for kicking the bottle as well. Not easy to do at 40 and few do it at that age. If Bush weren't so easily led around by the nose he wouldn't be half bad.

Yes, I remember seeing that. But don't forget, he's, what, 54? Trust me, you get clumsy, stupid, and slow when you get past 20. :) Also, almost all the runners I know don't chew gum for the same reason. :)

So the conclusion is.....

Hunting = ok
Hunting en Mass = bad
Cheney = fat ass = (D)bad/(R)good

So unless the fat ass is donating the huge amount of birds that were shot to a food shelter or needy cause, I still think he's an ass. There is no good reason to kill that many birds in one shoot.
