why not compare fermi with AMD's last years hardware. People are just fanbois around here.

I do not understand the thinking above.

I don't get how people make up their own rules about what can be compared... I'll compare the 7970 to the GTX580 if I want, it's a perfectly valid comparrison if I were buying today. Right now the 7970 competes with the GTX580. Tomorrow, that may change completely. It isn't set in stone that two parts have to be built on the same process, have the same amount of memory, have x memory bus, etc. Right now the 7970 would steal potential GTX580 (especially 3GB varient) buyers away. Tomorrow Keplar may force the 7970 to a differnt position.

I believe most people who aren't married to a brand, if they had ~$500 to spend on a card, the 7970 would be purchased the vast majority of the time over a GTX580.

Sad....really sad. I don't even have the energy to break down your contradictory statement. The 7970 is no doubt the best buy for the money right now. Not comparing but stating.

Hey OP, Fermi has been out for over a year. It shouldn't even be competing for the high end crown at this point.

If you work for AMD please tell them I say hi.

The OP made the Fermi comparison. And firstly I don't read Chinese, I don't know if the OP does natively ? But myself ? I have no idea if this is a Chinese forum or tech new's site etc. That's up to the OP to make clear on a English forum. I also don't know if those are the OP's words in the context or if he is quoting someone from that Chinese site.
well im doing my best to paraphrase as a read between the lines of mis-translation thx to crummy google chrome translator
the figures arent made up nor are the comparisons.

hey dude ill stop comparing it to fermi when kepler launches so how about you tell jason to whip his team harder so he can race around the track too.
i only compare the racers on the field man. if you expect anything more than its YOU that needs help. you want to argue different okay
get me a gtx 680 review right now on the double and hesitation will mean you cant.
and thats how we do things back on the spot..

Funny how anyone buying an AMD card is now manipulated and automatically a fanboy because we didn't wait for the wonder card of tomorrow by nvidia. If you don't compare the 7950 to other current offerings what is there to even compare it to?... we don't even have specs for kepler yet. Lets start comparing the cars in our driveways to hovercraft while were at it. I really think the title of this thread is meant to reflect that AMD is about to release another card that essentially puts a dent into fermi sales for the time being until nvidia gets their new stuff on the market. I have had cards from amd and nvidia I switched from a gtx260 to a 7970 because it gave me the biggest gains for $550 that could be had without going multi gpu am I a fanboy or do I just have common sense? Before you say I should have held onto the 260 and waited to see the results the whole rig got sold.

No cause once Kepler comes out they'll be talking about 8 series being the savior of all AMD.

And if it isn't faster, they'll talk about performance per watt and price vs performance.

The key to victory is changing the conditions to suit your needs.

It seems to me your taking the exact same stance on kepler vs. tahiti. Yet it seems by your logic once amd fans who will eventually be comparing kepler to hd8000 do the same thing they have the flawed mentality? Your essentially saying that nvidia wins because their card that isn't out yet will be better but dumb amd lovers better not say hd8000 is better then kepler because at that time kepler will be real and 8000 will be just rumors.

I don't think there is anything wrong with comparing last gen to this gen even if Nvidia doesn't have anything out yet for this gen.

I do it myself when I get 30-50% more performance than a 7970 overclocked with considerably less invested while having enjoyed that performance for over a year now.

Where did he even contradict himself...? You claim not to have the energy because you have nothing to say.

Sums up my thoughts entirely. Comparing anything kepler related is baseless conjecture at this point.

lol...

>470 /wDD blocks
dohohoho I see

are you really comparing your watercooled SLI setup to a stock 7970??? how much were those blocks and the rad and the pump. Guess you already had that stuff laying around so don't bother adding it into the cost of your setup.

edit: lol you beat me to it...

indeed and he needs tosse DD nblocks too. otherwise the things generate more ehat sepeately then a pentium D

Yeah I already had the other parts since I was water cooling before I got my 470's.

But if you add the blocks it came out to $450 for the two cards with the two blocks. Cpu block and pump/rads came over from when I was still with AMD, I wouldn't have water cooled my i5 but since I already had the parts "laying around" I used them.

I have plenty to say but when your talking to people who cant grab the concept of logic...why bother?

Graphics test 1: 27.8fps. This raw graphics performance without tessellation.

This is an overclocked 5850:

Graphics test 1: 25.74fps

Tessellation performance has increased significantly but in terms of performance without tessellation, the stock 7950 is only 8% faster than a overclocked 5850!!! After 2 generations and significant process shrink I expect much more.

Likely just shows the importance of Tesselation.

yeah tess means alot. i rememebr when the 5000 series launched and folks railed against its complete inability to do any tesselation related. now that amd can do tesselation your complaining that they need to improve non tess preformance??
😵

I would agree with you more if battlefield 3 is unplayable on the 5800 series card with tessellation. What is need is more raw performance because 7900 is a very very marginal improvement on last gen cards in BF3.

I think its safe to say that we need more supporting evidence before coming to such conclusions. We'll have reviews soon enough 😱

2/10 because I replied

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing but often when you fix one weakness, the others become clearer. I will say this though, are AMD now going to stick with the "Tess done right" mantra or admit that it was lacking beforehand?

I will have to install these drivers when I get home though, see if they make Skyrim a little better or not.

Well then, I better get started on my GTX580 vs. HD5870 comparison review. It's long overdue.

"get me a gtx 680 review right now" - You might mean GTX660. 😀

Is there an English comprehension problem in this thread?

Fanboy glasses come in solid green and red, it makes you unable to read.

I really don't see why you can't compare HD7970 to GTX580. The one is the top of the line from AMD and the other from Nvidia. Kepler isn't out yet and noone here knows when it will be arriving either. Right now, HD7970 and GTX580 are comparable, so they should be compared. If Nvidia is late to the party, that's really their problem.
