Our company gave a standing ovation to all the vet employees yesterday.

As to our resident troll, just wait he'll start telling us all about how he served and all the black ops he participated in.

I dunno anything about serving or black ops, but I do have a commie secret acorn decoder ring and use it daily to receive orders from comrade Obama for the greater cause of the peoples revolution.
Be afraid my reactionary comrade Al! You granny today, your guns and firstborn next! :awe:

I also slept at a red roof inn last night.

Funny how you guys get your panties all in a politically correct bunch when it comes to anyone questioning you guys jingoistic military worship. (the biggest big gubberment socialist wing of all lol.)

Sorry if I offend you kind rainbow brother *holds hangs to sing kumbaya to the beat of dying foreigners who happen to be born on strategic resources*

Who is worshipping anything? This is, well was, a thread to say thanks to the vets. If you can't do that then why post at all?

The whole premise of this thread is to use veterans to make people feel ashamed about not being as holy-then-thou jingoistic as them, its a disgusting troll as it exploits dead comrades memories. But then whats new?

Some people don't feel the need for flashy iconic images of eagles and flags to show respect. At the very least the thread is jsut another example of how low the OP can go.

And besides, the image on the OP just screams war on terror foxnews jingoistic america fuck yeah stuff -which is if you didn't realize (yet) is a unpopular war that has brought shame to the USAs image. (which was not that great before anyhow when it comes to imperialist wars)

Disagree or not this is not the thread to be bringing this kind of crap into. If you want to have a discussion about that then start another thread.

It actually seems like the proper place to bring "this kind of crap" into - the Off Topic thread on the subject seems more appropriate for a non-political discussion.

Our company gave a standing ovation to all the vet employees yesterday.

That's pretty cool. It passed pretty quietly here. I didn't notice myself until a half hour had already passed.

OK I can't resist.

Explain to us how the
- shadow image of a soldier saluting...
- the flag of the country that soldiers salute
- with the national bird, the Bald Eagle, which for 225+ years now has represented the US, and is a spiritual symbol to many native Americans...

...is "war on terror foxnews jingoistic america fuck yeah stuff "?

And what, pray tell, would you accept as a substitute that wouldn't be "war on terror foxnews jingoistic america fuck yeah stuff"?

I'd like a pic of my father fighting in a war that actually meant something more than politicians rubbing their balls together.

Perhaps thats too much to ask for these days?

Comon, one day a year isn't a lot to ask. It's not like you're forced to participate in a parade. (I would say that "support our troops" at one point became a de facto partisan statement in the context of what was going on, but that's not what Veteran's Day is about.)

It would be great if those marches were to remember people who fought and won but they never are, they are the chest beaters non-military idiots chance to feel like they are patriots.

And it's pathetic.

You want to salute those who came before you, JOIN THE FUCK UP, there is no other way.

Bringing a homeless vet a hot meal, celebrating peace (the way the day used to be) and all year round teaching your kids/family to not be foxnews slurping jingoistic america fuck yeah assholes to the world so we very may well have a bit more peace sound good?

A day to celebrate veterans of all civil service would be nice, or just put the day back to the way it was. Military/soldier worship is downright creepy.
We have a generation already grown up watching a glorified war on tv. And soldiers who have been made gods who are beyond criticism for their complacency in being enablers for imperialists optional wars.

This is good for recruitment and great for the elites having more cannon fodder. But terrible for a free society.

War is Peace comrade.

What's with the constant whining with you and those like you, can't you stand a moment of truth in your lies?

I retract my previous statement for you and those like you, don't join up, continue to whine about how you FEEL things should be.

I don't want to catch any friendly fire.

I'm not actually talking about Veterans Day specifically at all, I'm more talking about the pervasive culture of military worship.

To those who did not serve I'd say; you don't owe me a thing... not a holiday, not a pat on the back, absolutely nothing. To those who did serve or are serving, I'd say only thanks!
Everyone who served gave something... some who served gave everything... They who gave everything are the ones the citizens of this country and of the world should thank... but they can't hear you now... So it don't matter if you say a thing.
If it makes you feel good.. well... go ahead... fine, someone may care... I don't.

We also must ask the question of who should be the grand Marshall of the next Veterans day parade especially since remaining WW2 Vets are fewer and far between.

Should we nominate some one from an older war like LT. Calley of Vietnam days, or should we cut straight to the newest wars and pick Charles Granger and Lynde England?

Yes a cheap shot as I will admit, but one bad apple undoes the good deeds of all those Vets who helped solve problems in difficult situations and served honorably.

Why should we make no distinction between those real hero's that went above and beyond the call or duty, with the vast bulk that are neither saints or sinners, or gasp the real jerks who are also Veterans. Is a military medal and a dishonorable discharge the only measure?

There was stuff going on in Vietnam that no one can defend... Our guys not shooting a youngster who'd run toward them and detonate and those who'd wipe out a village cuz it may contain VC... Who knew who was who? It is the result of the insanity of an Atypical war...
For exactly six years I did my bit thinking we were right and I was right cuz we are always right... When I landed home, I was met with the venom of peace... They were wrong... they had to be... but as I became a bit more of a thinker and less of a warrior I realized that War of agression is always wrong... a War of defense is always right... Soon, I hope, I'll be able to determine the difference... In the mean time keep the parades and honors... I'm quite fine being a simple citizen... but do care for the folks sent far away to do war... They were sent there by the elected Command Authority... Give him a parade!

Somehow, in some sort of perverted way, government goodie two shoe people, have decided that providing for the welfare of people that can, but don't contribute to our society is just as important as providing for our vets.

Myself, I realize that there are limited resources for social programs. If it were my decision, the one-armed vet would get a mansion, and the one-vagina baby factories getting paid by the head would get the bridge.

Let me put this politely. What the fuck are you talking about? I said 'Thank You' to those who have served. There is no lie, no spin, no politics, no nothing other than 'Thank You'.

Seriously.. Go away. Find another thread to be an asshole in.

Really? You pay MORE in TAXES for LESS CARE than the UK and we manage to take VERY well care of our vets along with the rest of our population.

You don't think that profits get in the way of providing proper care for these vets?

No, you yourself want them to be ok but you are not willing to pay less taxes and no insurance to do so.

Which, when you think about it, is fucking retarded.

I think that is the problem with the US you are so fucking stuck in your rut that anything else seems like the wrong way to go.

Seriously, you could afford it, without ANY doubt, after all, per capita you pay more for healthcare through taxes than we do and yet you manage to fuck it up so bad that even those who need it the most won't get it.

That is ok, a polite way to put that to one who has served under the NATO operations in three different nations and over ten different places would perhaps not be "go away" though.

My point is that no parade nor thanks will do sheit, join up or shut up.

My respect always goes to those who serve and put their lives on the line...

Not so much for the flag waving "rah-rah" types....

All good ways to honor vets (other than your leftie parrot jabber). Why did you edit out the other question? You've got no answer, do you.

I think all veterans should take to the streets next year and refuse to go to any parades unless they are held on Veterans day. We should close down the contry on Veterans day even if veterans have to force all traffic to stop so people cant go to work on veterans day. I am calling for a national demonstration for Veterans Day in 2010. Lets stop the corporate world next Veterans Day!
