One of my mom's co-workers (a doctor--my mom is a nurse) has been getting random letters in the mail with no return address. The letters have been addressed to him and his wife by name (first + last). Thus far he has gotten three of them.

Number one was a 4 of hearts playing card
second was a 4 cent stamp
Third was a cut out of the Library from the game "Clue" (it was actually cut out from the game board)
Fourth was 4 random pictures of women
on one of the envelopes (my mom doesn't remember which), there was an upside-down number 4 in that corner where the return address should be

The four letters are all from different locations. First from Portland, second from South Portland, fourth from Scarborough, fourth from Yarmouth. The doc and his wife live in Falmouth.

It also seems that the doctor that used to be head of the practice, but left about a year ago is also getting these letters. Only he got the 4 of spades and the kitchen from "Clue". He also got the four cent stamp...

UPDATE #2
Things seemed to have calmed down a bit. The next letter was just a bunch of 4's (in like, confetti form). Just a bunch of cut-outs of the number 4. It also had a note, to check out the ads in the next forecaster (free local newspaper) under Lost for another clue.

In that forecaster, was a message, addressed ATTN: fours. Need more clues? Contact Eric.

That was it. It seems that more people are getting this, and all of them are in my mother Doctor's office and were a friend of the past supervisor.

Can anyone connect these? Or is this just some random prank?

I think it is VERY strange...

no. The doctors office is Chest Medicine Associates. He works with people with lung problems--usually asthma and CF, etc.

Whoever it is they are probably Chinese. You see the word 4 in Chinese is pronounced the same as death. Also, the Chinese are superstitious about this number.

Dunno. He has just been getting letters in the mail with no return address. He has no clue WHAT they are and is a bit sketched out as well.

Hrmmm... I think the four of hearts means luck, the 4 cent stamp means cheap, and the game means a "clue"

So maybe he's been cheap, yet lucky, and has no clue? :p

Yeah, this reply is worthless

You should definitely contact the authorities. It's not some random prank, someone is going into a lot of trouble. 4 cent stamps take some trouble to find.

As cliche as it sounds did he have any patients he lost who's relatives were remarkably upset?

More likely it sounds like something a schizophrenic would do; barring some connection between those three things we're all missing the logic seems to be very schizophrenic. The 4 of hearts and the 4 cent stamp mix, but the library is sort of out there. See if he knows anybody who is schizophrenic, has/had any patients with schizophrenic relatives/friends, etc.

It could just be random though. Crazies aren't very choosy... well at least by standards we can discern.

haha, yeh no sh!t. If I were him I would not go within 50 miles of a library. Too bad the doctor's office is about 5 miles from one.... Unfortunate, really.

Yes, but library? What's the Chinese word for library, and do any of the other 3 pronunciations mean "death" or "fire" or "you killed my dad you bastard"?

Do the parts of the word Library, pronounced as Chinese words, form any sort of deathy or significant sentances?

Still... very schizophrenic. You wouldn't send someone something weird like that unless you expected them to understand it... or for someone else to understand it.

For those of you who don't speak Chinese: Every Chinese word can be pronounced in four different tones. (Like when we put a lilt on the end of a sentance to indicate a question) Each tone changes the meaning of the word.

anyway, so far we have:

chinese 4 is pronounced DEATH
and that he should definitely NOT do anywhere near a library (which is hard considering you drive right by one on the way to the office--he could go the back way though)
and calling the cops sounds like a good idea

any more? This is getting pretty interesting, albeit strange
