Some like it that way... as to not accidentally hit the reset button.
Would very much like to find a source that is including the side fan bracket.
As for modifying the front for a 120mm fan.... there is no modification needed. However.. you may not be able to use the "upper" hard drive bracket (I only used the lower bracket, as I wanted to keep my hard drives in front of the fan to keep em nice and cool).
My 120mm fan attached to (2) holes using the barrell type (headless) fan attach screws (you can find them at you local computer shop).
Went right in without any modifications. AND there is plenty of front ventillation to feed the fan.
I do wish Newegg sold the case with the side fan mounting bracket.
