VERY HOT DEAL ON FX 5200

Well, considering even the fx5500 chokes in d3, I think it's safe to assume the fx5200 will too.

Btw this is a repost

27 dollars is good...

But, to get the 40 dollars off you have to send in one canadian rebate and one american rebate... Sounds fishy, and the fact that it is tigerdirect...

 Even suggesting Doom 3 can play on an fx5200 is like suggesting Wal-Mart is the most sophisticated, upscale department store.

I have an FX5200 (PNY) and it plays Doom 3 just fine. It certainly isn't the greatest card in the world, but it's one of the best for such a low price.

define 'just fine'

LOL the only games you'll be able to play at high res and good framerates with that card are Counter-Strike and below. If you're a war/strategy kinda guy i'm sure it can run games like Warcraft 3 fine with some lower res. But if you're really strapped for cash and need a vid card, try to find someone who'll sell you a ti4200 for <$40. It's a much much more capable card.

I'd rather have a Geforce4 (or a Geforce 2 or 3) because they're ALL faster than this, assuming they have 128-bit DDR memory.

ohh yea, don't forget THIS IS TIGERDIRECT.

Good luck with those rebates and/or return policy.

I bought a 128mb Prolink FX 5200 to go on my AMD XP1800+ and it runs Doom 3 well at 800x600 on medium settings. It's not a stunner, but I'm on a budget and only spent $72 on it a year ago from newegg.com. My card has relatively fast memory on it, but many of the other FX 5200's, especially the 64-bit versions, are crap because of the poor memory they use.

If you look at what the FX5200 is supposed to do, it does it well. It is not a card for a hard-core gamer, but it is a card for those who mostly use the computer for other things than games and only occasionally play a game. I still was pleasantly surprised when I played all the game demos. I can honestly say that as long as I stayed at lower resolutions I had no problems playing any of the demos.

While it is nice for NVIDIA to be able to say that they have a DX9 card in this price range, I wouldn?t buy this card for that reason. Face it ? you won?t play Doom3 with this baby (unless you turn down the quality a lot!).

As for XFX?s offering ? it is ok. They have cut down on the bundle, and there really isn?t anything special about this card except that it is silent. But it does what it is supposed to do without surprising.

Well I might have had to turn the quality settings down, but at least it plays it. Somebody said it wouldn't even play Doom 3, so by "just fine" I was merely saying that the card will indeed support Doom 3, even if only at the lowest settings. But to be more slighty more specific, at low settings, I didn't experience choppiness or anything--the game ran smoothly.
